Old Paths

Jul. 6, 2005 - Introduction

Hello and Welcome!

I thought I had better take a moment or two to properly introduce myself :-)

I am (gulp) 30 years old (that sounds so much older than 29!) and have been happily married for 5 years. My husband and I have been blessed with 4 little ones so far, ages 4 down to 9 months. I am a homeschool graduate and the oldest of 8 children.

Our whole heart's desire is to have every one of the precious children the Lord gives us saved at a young age and walking with Him all the days of their lives. Having seen so many Christian, homeschool families lose their children to the world, has caused my husband and I great dismay. We certainly do not want this to happen to our family and firmly believe that this is not how God would have it. In a culture that is growing ever more evil (and with increasing rapidity), and as the Biblical family comes under greater and greater attack, we have felt the need more and more to return to the "old paths" of Scripture (Jeremiah 6:16) and to use God's Word alone as our standard and guide as we seek to raise our little ones. In our quest, we have been very blessed to come across many excellent resources containing godly, Scriptural teaching that have been a great help and encouragement to us.

As we have found such joy and excitement in learning about God's design and vision for the Christian family, we have wished the same for others. As we seek to travel the "old paths" as we raise our little ones we hope to pass along some of the resources that have been such a blessing to us. We are young yet (even though we have hit our thirties ;-)) and don't wish to teach, but just to hopefully encourage others who are walking the same path we are :-)  We have listed many of these resources on our website at www.old-paths.com, but hope to feature some of our favorites here.

Let us not be afraid to stand back and reconsider the way we live our everyday lives. Let us be willing, if needed, to return to the "old paths". Are we truly living as God has ordained? Do we know what we're doing right and why it's right? Do we measure everything by God's Word alone? Can we see the influences of the modern culture and how it's taking us away from God's plan, or have we become like the proverbial frog in the pot of boiling water; gradually becoming so influenced by the culture around us that we don't realize the danger of our situation?  We hope you will find the resources we've gathered as helpful in answering these questions as we have.

Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. Jeremiah 6:16

It is a blessing to see some young folks that have grown up in a G-d honoring home sharing the wisdom that they have already learned from the example of their parents. You really are blessed. I started home-educating in 1985 and my oldest is now 29, but I still have little ones at home. I won't be suffering the empty nest syndrome! We got shaken to the foundations 11 years ago when their dad decided to live the "gay" life after almost 20 years of marriage and 5 children. I am encouraged that 2 of my olders are returned to the "old paths" and am praying for my other 2.( I have 4 daughters that are in their 20's.) I have learned to give mercy through this experience.
I was excited to look at your website and find a lot of bookmarks that I had lost when my bookmarks disappeared recently. I will be visiting again. Keep walking in His ways and listening to your Shepherd's voice. Keep praying for your children to know Him. May Father bless you and give you His strength, joy and shalom.
Love and shalom,
Serena
btw, I've tagged you! If you get tagged you have to tell what your day TODAY was like...really! Not what you wish it'd been like or what you'd planned for it to be like, but how it really turned out. Be sure to title it "Fly on the Wall" so we can look for those blogs. Tag about five or so friends and we can all have fun being a fly on the wall of someone else's homeschool for a day.
