A Cool Contest! Check it out, Check it out!

It's been a long day here on our forty acres. We try to make the most of the daylight so supper is late, usually after nine and kids don't get to bed before ten.

I'm dog tired, whatever that means. The garden is prime to be worked so that's where I spent the majority of my day. Hoeing is hard on the back and shoulders but seeds need to get in the ground now. By the way, if you have never thinned out carrots...let me just say that's tedious work!

Alright, I've whined now on to some fun stuff! Melissa at In the Sparrow's Nest has got an awesome contest going on that you don't want to miss!

She and her friend Cindy have written some great science units. Currently, we are going through one of them called Everchanging Erosion.

With all the rain we've received these past few weeks there were many examples of erosion that the kids and I were able to check out.

This was really interesting and such a fantasic visual for the kids of how erosion carries soil away.

The next couple of photos have nothing to do with erosion, just some cool bugs.

Here is a dragonfly molting.

I love this picture. I think because my little inexspensive camera really came shining through here. Someday I hope to have a camera with all the whistles and bells. But quite honestly I'm just not ready to fork over that kind of money when I can occasionally get a photo like this.

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget that cool contest over at Melissa's.

Blessings, Julie

Thank you Julie for supporting us! And I love that you've been able to apply the Erosion unit already! Love the photos of the erosion and the other two really cool photos.

Blessings, Melissa

The insect pictures are wonderful! My kids are good at finding them, while my vision seems to not catch the littlest things. Hope your back and shoulders feel better, but I know your garden will flourish because of it.

Fabulous photos! Having a chance to catch up reading a few blogs today. Thanks for your comments at mine. Have seen a few rodeo signs around, as they breed horses around here, but they are all for later in the year. My sister in law just says we'll have to come back in the summer another year!!
God bless you!

I'm glad to hear the information, thanks for sharing it...
Now, my question is this, what type of camera do you use. Mine is now junk and I'd like to replace it with something that takes great pic's. Yours seems to do just that with nice close ups.

Hey, I took a minute to respond to your comment after I responded to your post (smile).

I had to laugh about Quick Draw McGraw while I wrote the comment--there are a number of moms on this forum who are too young to even know who Quick Draw McGraw is (obviously I'm not one of them). So I wrote it thinking, will she know who I'm talking about? Then you went to Baba Looey--LOL!!

I am keeping my comments on for now; this feature has allowed me to meet wonderful people, and add true friends with which I write offline and exchange little gifts (Mexican vanilla, garden seeds, etc.). I just wonder if I'd write something different if y'all weren't in my mind and in my heart as I write--it's a point of pondering more than anything else.

I took the liberty of actually listing you as a friend since I'm over here so much (smile). I love your blog and figured that we might as well make it official, huh?

What neat pictures! I haven't tried to get any pictures of bugs yet, other than butterflies, and my camera does have all the whistles and bells! I am always just afraid the bugs will move too fast and I will get frustrated.

Neat erosion pictures, too!

Have a very bright, very cheerful day!

You know sometimes the point and shoots take the best bug pictures anyhow. There are other issues with SLR cameras - dust and noise. That's a really cool picture of the dragon fly. Was it being still because it was molting? I have never seen that. We get lots of dragon flies here, but I've never seen them molt. The erosion pictures are cool. Is that on your property or just in the area. We got a lot of rain this Spring - but we're used to it. There is not much extra that ever could erode that doesn't every year anyhow. Except sometimes we talk about - one day a storm could easily just take out the road we use to get into our place. Luckily there is a back way if that ever happens. I hope you have a good week.

once again you have beautiful photos! Love your new header as well!!! I just got my garden put in the other day and hope to get the tomatoes planted in the next couple of days. And all of that outdoor work left me dog tired as well!
