Gardening & Gifts: My Shade Garden

Yesterday morning while walking out to the mailbox, I noticed how beautifully the moon flowers were blooming on my arbor. So of course, I just had to get pictures.

This is a part of my shade garden. If you look closely you can see Fiver's ears and head amongst the four-o'clocks. Fiver is a statuary rabbit that Tim gave me as a Mother's Day slash Birthday gift several years ago. Fiver is one of the main characters in the book "Watership Down" by Richard Adams. I read the book when I was twelve and it has remained one of my favorite stories as well as "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee.

The garden bench was also a gift from Tim. He gave it to me on my 45th birthday this past summer. The arbor with the moonflower vine adorning it was a gift from Tim this past Christmas.

Are you noticing a theme here?

My husband knows me so well and yet I can be so blind to his consideration, generosity, and kindness. Why is that?

Thanks for your kind words, encouragement, and prayers concerning my last post. The Lord is ever faithful and so patient with me. I desire more discipline and self-control in my personal life. I desire to love Him more and not be so discontented. I also know that He puts those desires in my heart and I rejoice in that bit of wisdom.

Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

                                                                                  Philippians 1:6

I pray you have seen Him in others and around you in His creation.

Blessings, Julie

I guess your husband knows what you like! What a beautiful thing. Don't be too hard on yourself - remember Jesus loved you from the start and won't ever stop. He knows we are but dust and delights in our longing to please Him. God bless you, Julie! Hope you enjoy your Sunday!

Oh, you Southerners have such beautiful flowers in the off season! Yet, even here when everything is starting to die off, I'm noticing more the couple of fall wild flowers that bloom this time of year.

Your shade garden is just beautiful. I hope you enjoy it and that the Lord encourages your heart.

Looks like you've been blessed with a beautiful patch of heaven, to quote Home on the Range! Praying your week is going well.

Yes, K is only 8, but seems to have a knack for math. He struggles with doing the facts in the allotted time, but I think it's more of a motor skills issue than anything. He can think of the answer fairly quickly, but then translating it from his mind to the paper seems to trip him up. His mind seems to take a trip before he actually gets the number written down. By the time it returns from his brief vacation, he has to think of the answer all over again! That said, other than the timed fact sheets, he's doing ok with Saxon 5/4, though we are only up to lesson 10. I have the DIVE CD and he watches it, taking notes along with the computer. I usually only assign about half the problems, unless it's something he's struggling with. We'll continue to see how it goes, not pushing too much. I really like Saxon and hope he continues with it, though C didn't do well with it. She's using Math U See with much groaning and complaining, but I'm pretty sure it would be the same regardless of which program we used with her!

Blessings to you today in Okrahoma! I love fried okra!

OK, so I don't get how I could've stayed away from your blog for so long. I'm so glad you didn't leave blogging permanently last year! I just really love the way you put things, and your photos are so beautiful! Thanks for blogging so faithfully and encouraging the rest of us!

Jennifer

PS My hubby's checking out your hubby's blog. It might take him awhile to comment though. He tends to be shy about that.
