Curriculum?????

Posted in Curriculum

One of my BIG questions is what curriculum to use.  Textbooks, lapbooks, make your own, non curriculum, ect.  How do you know what to use?  How do you know what will be best for your child???  I have done a lot of research about my school district and found that at the end of the year my son will have to take a test to move to the next grade level.  That worries me a little.  Do 1st graders test well in a formal setting after being home schooled?

Anyway, any advice from the homeschool world would be great.

I started homeschooling in "05" we did a whole lot more then, then this year we are getting a slow go on things this year, but I do not use a certain curr. but we did but these "great" books that costed 300.00 dollars and the guy said it was good through all the years, so we'll see. But there is ALOT of good things in there! Just thought I would give my view point, if you want to know more about them, then go to my blog and email me!!!

Dec. 30, 2006 - Great Question,

Posted by FaithfulGrace

I've been wondering that same question myself.
But, I have several choices within our state homeschooling requirements so I will not have my child tested in 1st grade. Probably will start in 2nd grade when I know that she is able to feel very confident in her reading comprehension.

Do you have to test?
Look forward to reading about your new adventure in homeschooling.
Happy New Year

Jan. 3, 2007 - homeschool information for your state

Posted by bethanyrae

You have a lot of good questions. It sounds like you need to know what relationship you are required to have with the public school system in Florida once you begin to homeschool. I went to the website for Home School Legal Defense Association, and here is their link for information concerning Florida. You might find something helpful there. This association is there to defend the rights of homeschoolers. Usually, the less contact you have to have with the school district, the better your homeschool experience will be. Each state will be different in what they require. I also noticed on their homepage a homeschool curriculum conference coming up somewhere in Florida. You might want to find one that you can attend.

My only advice, after 11 years of homeschooling, is to remember that whatever curricula you choose, you're not locked into anything. You can always change if what you're using doesn't work or you don't like it!
