Aug. 28, 2009 - Friday's search
We found out today how much a well would cost on a mountain versus on a flatter land closer to the river, so we are looking elsewhere...to the east of Billings now, where the Yellowstone River runs through. Up on the mountain, where we've been looking, a well can cost up to $15,000 to put in if they have to drill 700 feet, where at some places they do and even then, the flow is slow. We could always bring in cistern water, which is a big tank that you have to carry on the back of your pick-up truck and fill it up in town and then bring it back to your place and fill up the tank that's in the ground, but we don't want to do that. We want to be able to get water from our well and not have to worry about transporting water. We're trying to get a sustainable way of life and cisterns just don't fit into that picture.
So, we looked at two more properties today east of Billings, much closer to where J's parents live. Like I mentioned before, looking at land is difficult because we just don't know where the land begins or ends. We couldn't even find one of the streets today. So now I have to come back on the computer tonight to better look at the google maps. We're gonna try again tomorrow to find them and hopefully find something we like.
This afternoon, we went into Laurel to fish. There's some spots right around here that you can pull up to the river and fish, but that's mostly fly fishing and we only had reel rods. It was a nice park that we went to and Kaylah and the babies ended up swimming in the lake. I have to remember to bring towels and a change of clothes for them whenever we do any activity that involves water. The babies had to ride home in their diapers today. Ariella caught a nice size trout though. She was very excited about that. We had a nice afternoon and I'm hoping to get in the hot tub in a little bit. I lowered the temperature earlier to that of a lukewarm bath and I'm just waiting until the kids go to sleep or until I can sneak out there for a breather. Good-night, friends and family. I miss you all.
