Oct. 14, 2009 - NILE Ag Education
On Monday, Ariella and I went to a program sposored by NILE, Northern International Livestock Exposition. It was held at the Metra Center and is designed to teach 4th graders from across Montana the importance of agriculture in their everyday lives.
I enjoyed it, and I think Ariella got some stuff out of it, even though she complained almost the whole time. She has really had a negative attitude lately, but I don't notice it as much when I have all four kids with me. I guess as long as one or two of all four enjoy what we are doing, I can overlook the whines and complaints coming from those who don't enjoy the event. But since it was just Ariella and I at this particular event, her complaining really irked me. Afterall, I wasn't there for my own benefit.
Anyways, they had it set up so that each group of about 30 or 40 kids went to various stations. We were supposed to be with other homeschoolers, but I couldn't find them, so we ended up with two oter schools and caught up with the homeschoolers at the last station. They presenters talked to us about the importance of honeybees, cattle, ranges, and the various crops that grow around Billings. We were able to see and touch sugar beets, wheat, barley, corn, and alfalfa sprouts. The whole program was pretty interesting, I have to admit, and it's a shame Ariella couldn't enjoy it more.
Afterwards, we were able to go into the center and check out different exhibits from the Rodeo itself, but at that point, Ariella had worn me down and I couldn't deal with her anymore. We went home instead!
