Pacifiers and Fingers...

Lauren and Chloe were pacifier girls.  They loved their pacifiers and they had them all of the time, but when they got close to their 2nd birthday's, I started only letting them have them to go to sleep and shortly after they turned 2, all of the pacifiers went in the trash because they were big girls now.  There were a few rough nights and then it was all fine, no big deal.

Tatum Grace is a different story.  She never really took to a pacifier, but when she was about 2 months old she started s*cking the middle two fingers on her left hand.... just like I did when I was a baby.  Too sweet.  (I didn't know something like that would be hereditary, but it's kind of funny that she uses the exact same hand and fingers that I did).

I know... adorable.

Well the habit is hard to break.  I think I was about 6 when I finally broke the habit completely.  Tatum has her fingers in her mouth all of the time.  It is completely grossing me out!  We will be at the store and she will be touching everything and then her fingers are in her mouth.  YUCK!!! When she does it I say "Oh no fingers.  They're dirty."  She will take them out, but she has already put the germs in her mouth, and it's such a habit for her she puts them in her mouth before she even realizes it.

I have been at a loss as to how to break the habit but I think we may have a way out!  Somehow she has a cut on her middle finger and it's really yucky.  So today I had to clean it out and put medicine and a bandaid on it.  It was pretty painful for her and she's been walking around holding her finger in the air all day and she hasn't had them in her mouth at all, she can't.  Tonight I felt so bad when I was putting her to bed, because she just couldn't relax without her fingers and I had this idea.  I gave her a pacifier which worked for her a little bit, and I thought if I can keep a bandaid on her cut and get her out of the habit of sucking her fingers but let her have a pacifier at night, then we would be taking care of the germ issue, and I could gradually get rid of the binky at night time...

Although it kind of makes me sad because she just looks so cute, and it means she's not a baby anymore... I'm gonna try it.  Any better ideas?
