Our first 'real ' Thanksgiving.

So, usually on thanksgiving we will take a drive out to my In laws for the holidays... this year that is obviously not an option. (Although DH did go back to work ~for 2 days~ this week, so maybe we are back on our way up??) But over there, we really haven't ever had a traditional turkey dinner... we will usually have whatever is in the fridge. :-) My mother in law is a great cook, so we are full of thanks for whatever she cooks! And I'm thankful that I didn't have to cook! ;-) Anywho, we were going to stay in and have chicken (I found it on sale, and we were going to have the traditional meal minus the turkey, because we didn't think we were going to be able to afford one!), but a friend of ours invited us over to their house, and then right after that..... another friend showed up and blessed us with a turkey. And then another family (one that I barely know) was told (God placed us on their hearts also!) to give us a meal. So, we had somewhere to go for thanksgiving meal, plus 2 turkeys at home. WOW. but seriously, that is the God that I serve. He loves to bless His children above and beyond their wildest dreams. He is an abundant God! and it isn't as if the food will go to waste! I have a plan. (freezing some, and having some people over too.. It's great to be able to bless others as God has been blessing us!) but, on to our Thanksgiving! Well, first let me say a huge thank you to God for putting friends like Kelly and Ralph in our lives. It's amazing how different (better) our lives seem now that we have people to share them with. We girls get along, but that happens fairly often......what doesn't; and is such a huge blessing... is the fact that the kids also get along. and the men get along too!! Our lives are fuller and have more meaning now that they are in them. And I just pray that God would pour His blessing on their family... and that we would continue to be 1st waking up and watching the Thanksgiving Day parade on TV, with our kids, and watching the awe in their eyes... it was great! We had cinnamon rolls, and hot chocolate (ok, hubby and I had coffee) and watched the parade together. It was very cool. and then it was on to our friends house! Well, Kelly and Ralph got DOWN this Thanksgiving. We had turkey, and ham, and stuffing, and mac and cheese, and green bean casserole, and mashed potatoes, and sweet potatoes, and homemade gravy! I probably forgot some stuff too... there was so much food to be thankful for! I mean we had the whole enchilada! (ok, we didn't have enchiladas...but you know what I meant!) And we sat down (like the TV shows!!) and had dinner at the table... and we talked!! and laughed... and it was great... I felt Seriously, it has always been a dream of mine to have the whole traditional thanksgiving meal... complete with friends and family and fun! So, another of God's provisions has been blessing us with family even though everyone in our families live so very far away! Our God is sooo good!! And to top off the fun, we played games, until late. Ok, not that late, but late for us.... :-) we hit the sack fairly early, so 10pm is late to us! ;-) So, we learned some new games, and practiced some old favorites! and the kids played and then watched movies! It was very very nice... and I'm in awe of God's goodness! ok, got to run! but don't let the thanksgiving stop, just cuz Thanksgiving Day is over. :-) |
