Blogger facts

Posted in FUN

Here is my entry for Leah's contest...I was up way too late doing this one!

1. How long ago did you start blogging and why did you start?

After learning what blogging was all about in TOS magazine, I thought it would be a great way to chronicle our homeschooling adventures.  I also wanted to learn from others who have journeyed down paths I may eventually travel.

2. How did you come up with your username/URL address?

I can't imagine not being home with my girls...they are my heart

3. What do you enjoy most about blogging?

I consider it a blessing from God to have so many virtual friends to "visit" and "chat" with any time of the day, or more often night.

4. What makes one blog stand out to you from all the others?

Sincerety, eloquence, inspiration and graphics!

5. On an average how long does it take you to write a post for your blog?

Longer than it should...

6. What has changed in your life since you started blogging?

I have been blessed with friends that I never would have met otherwise.

7. Does your family support you (if so how) or do they think you're a blog addict?

HUSBAND:  "That's nice..."

5 YEAR OLD:  "When are you going to be done???"

BABY:  "Gooooo, gaaaa, dadada...(yank on phone cord, drool on keyboard...)"

8. Have you ever gotten a negative comment?  If so, how did you deal with it?

Not yet...

9.How often do you check your blog for new comments?

Lots...

10. Do you have a blogging tip you can share?

Be yourself

sand in little hands

Posted in FUN

A Sunday afternoon drive brought us to the breezy shore of the Gulf of Mexico today.  It was fun to eat our fish lunch in an outdoor restaurant overlooking the beach.  Out of the corner of my eye as I ate, I saw a sandy blonde head longingly watch the shoreline while clutching her bathing suit.  I smiled knowing her sweet little toes ached to feel the warm sand between them.  As sunset approached in a clear sky,  Mommy treasured the moments watching her favorite people-- hand in hand, wading, laughing, splashing, running from crabs.  My face was warmed by the sun but my heart with the sound of Baby squealing with delight.  She looked at me with wonder while her little chubby fists clutched the sugary white sand for the first time and she was cooled by the stinging salty waves.  My mind was full as we listened to two distinct snores while driving home in the darkness.  Our day is done, but my memory is forever...

Horse Ride

Posted in FUN

Victoria was privilieged to see what a horse ride is all about this past weekend.  While running an errand a little distance from home, we found a riding stable to stop in and the plan was to just visit and let her get up close to the horses and pet them.  Well...she fell in love and had to ride one.  Jeff also went on a little trail ride and both enjoyed themselves.  Victoria was a regular little cowgirl.  Not afraid at all.  Mommy watched from inside a little cabin and was a little nervous seeing her girl on a big horse, all by herself, wandering around while Jeff and the trail boss came in to sign waivers etc.  I looked at Jeff and said, "Honey...she is out there alone, and the horse is walking around......!!!!!!"  He laughed at me and said "she is just fine".  Well, it turns out, she was... but Mommy is a bit protective! Tori cried when it was time to go.  Wants to see the horses "every day", and now has a fervent desire to have a horse.  Maybe someday, when we are in a place to really "homestead", and have lots more money, or at least not two homes to keep up with.  Dreams...

making memories

Posted in FUN

Today was "Tea Day" at our house.  Not much work got done, but we had fun.  We ordered some "special" tea online and it arrived this morning.  We went to our local Goodwill store and found some "special" tea cups and accessories.  It was a very proper tea party with all the local stuffed animals being invited.  Victoria wanted to pretend we have children and "lets talk about them to each other."  She found some of Gram's old scarves (as you see in the pictures) and was a very dignified Lady.  The house is a disaster, and no boxes today...but we are busy making memories.

getting there

Posted in FUN

We were invited to a pool party today at some friends of ours that we actually met last July 4 in Charleston.  They were there on the Cooper bridge project like us, and Victoria and their little girl, Hunter, played while we watched the fireworks that evening.  They hit it off so well, both mothers decided we needed to make some play-dates.  Who knew they would be in a town in Florida almost a year later!  We had a ball today, and met some new friends as well.  It was a much needed break from our solitude and ho-hum business of unpacking. A fun thing for Victoria was the opportunity to meet their pet rat.  Yes, the rodent kind.  It "grew" on me as the day wore on, and I acutally held it (which upon arrival I said I absolutely would not do).  Now Victoria has always loved animals, but as she gets older, I am realizing how emotional the experience is when she has the oppotunity to have "hands on" with them.   She gets SO excited!  She was shaking with anticipation of holding the little squirmy thing.  She was timid, not sure if it would hurt her, but it   warmed my heart to see the joy light up her face when she held it for a second.  I believe animal unit studies will be something she will appreciate with her schooling.  On that subject, I have made it a priority to get the area we will use for school unpacked and set up.  I ordered and received some back order issues of "The Old Schoolhouse" magazine and just skimming through them has inspired me   and given me back some energy and excitement.  We have both delighted in our homeschooling adventure so far, and I am looking forward to settling in and getting back to work.  I plan to carry on through the summer casually.  I am hoping to formalize my goals for the remainder of the K-5 curriculum we are in the midst of, and make a lesson plan attempt for winter/fall. Hopefully that will keep us on track as we plan and carry out another big move.

So, I think we are getting there.   Mommy is feeling better, and Victoria was happy to reconnect with an old friend.  I am starting to see the piles dwindle.  We have eaten all our supper meals at home this week so far!  That is progress.  I measure in baby steps...
