School set to begin
Sadly, I will not be homeschooling exclusively. My husband has decided that they boys will be in public school during the day. I will be reinforcing and expanding on what they have learned in school. I am ready for the challenge. I will pray everyday before they leave that they will be safe and not pick up the bad habits of others. We have already began schooling them, not that we really stopped during the summer. I hope that they will be on track with the other kids once they are in public school. |

Applesauce cake
So the apple picking the other day led to more applesauce than we could eat in one sitting. It was a bit tart as well, I could have added sugar but that defeats the purpose in making my own. I would rather not have all the sugar, or the calories that go along with it. Anyway, since we had some left over, Nicolas and I made cake this morning. He did a great job helping me measure out the ingredients and stirring everything together. The house smells wonderful right now! I can't wait until after dinner so we can sample our little treat. |

Apple picking
This is how life was meant to be. You want applesauce, go to the back yard and pick some apples. How much sweeter can it get? That is just what we did this morning. I can't wait until tonight when we are eating just made applesauce! |

Simple joys
My mil found a small desk at a lawn sale and picked it up for us. I already had one in the kitchen but have brought out the one that she has gotten for us. I love cooking and working in the kitchen while the boys are at the desks playing with puzzles, coloring or looking at their books. I can't even put it into words at how that makes me feel. I love it...... |

Wonderful day
Today has been great so far! I know that not everyday that we homeschool is going to go smoothly, but so far they have been going great. DS is trying to do his best and doesn't complain very much when we are working. Monday's are a bit of a change for us since our youngest ds is home with us instead of preschool. It is a bit changelling to try to get our work done and try to keep him interested as well. But we will take Monday's in stride. Next we are out for a nature walk!!!! Gotta love these late summer/autumn days. |

Harvesting
Last night I went out to pull weeds from the garden since I haven't done it in a while. I also picked some green beans, peas, beats and squash! The boys were so excited to see that we had things in the garden to be picked. They took the squash and were jumping up and down and yelling to their Dad that we had vegetables! They were so cute. We also have a pumpkin growing! Benjamin was thrilled to see that and had to drag his Dad over to see it. |

baby chicks
We will be getting baby chickens and the momma chicken soon. A friend of my daughters was over today and I was talking to his mother about trying to hatch chickens. She said that they have several chickens that are sitting now and once they hatch that she would give me the babies and the mother! The boys are so excited! I need to get a fence put up and some type of shed for them. I am also going to take the boys over to the farm so that they can see how cows are milked. They have been asking about that lately so what better way to show them! |

The fruits of summer
I love this time of year. Picking fruit and making jam is great. Okay I didn't exactly pick the strawberries this time but I did pick pick them off the shelf. (lol) I've made 8 jars of jam and 2 containers of freezer jam so far. I have also put a bag of strawberries in the freezer. None of it will probably last until winter though. Everyone likes it too much to leave it on the shelf for any length of time. |

Our project
We went to a small farm yesterday. I thought the boys would love to see the animals. I was right, they loved it once they got used to the animals. They saw pigmy goats and regular size coats, baby goats, bunny, chickens and baby chicks, a horse, and baby kitties. We were given two eggs and a small incubator and we're going to see if they hatch. The boys are so excited and can't wait. One of the goats will be having babies in a month and we will be going back to see them. Here is a picture of the eggs were trying to hatch. Wish us luck!! |

Hard little workers
My little guys were outside helping me do yard work a few days ago. I have never seen a 4 and 5 year old work as hard as they did. They helped me rake and fill the trailer and then help me empty the trailer. It was no easy task either. We were tuckered out by the time we were finished. Well were not really finished but almost ready to move our garden!! I'm getting excited. It has taken years to get the lawn to the point that it is at now and it is starting to look really good. Although there is still much to do. I am hopeful that this will be the year that it is finally finished. The weather for this week looks quite promising so I think that we will be out there some more this week. It is always a great way to teach them about bugs and such since we see many of them while working. |

Fun outing
We took the boys to see a movie today. Horton Hears a Who. It was cute. Ben loved it and laughed throughout it. Nick doesn't feel overly great but didn't want to miss it either. He is getting a cold and is achy. The sun is shinning today but it is cold. The next several days hold the promise of warmer temps! Hopefully it is good bye snow! |

Beautiful spring day
Well I guess that would depend on your definition of what a spring day should look like. We got up to about 7 inches of snow this morning. The snow from winter had almost all melted and it was beginning to dry up. We were looking forward to getting outside and doing yard work and start work on the garden. Now that is on hold for a bit longer. I've checked out the outlook for next week and it looks like it is going to be somewhat warm. Time will tell. At least it is still March. If it were the middle of April (or later), I would be much less amused than I am now. |

Our new mission
Most of you don't know this, but we have decided to homeschool Nicolas and Benjamin. It has been quite a learning experience thus far. There are so many different styles of homeschooling and since we haven't officially begun, I'm not sure which style we will be using. Still more research needs to be done and working with the boys to determine which will be the best teaching style for them. This is a whole new area for us and I am sure there will be days when we wonder why we have decided to do this. But I am sure that we will truly enjoy this once we have started. It will open a whole new world up to us and the kids and it is one that I feel is going to allow them to excel in life. |

Wish us luck!!
