I love that old hymn that says, "Count your blessings, name them one by one, count your many blessings, see what God has done." Today I got to thinking about some of the bazillions of blessings in my life and thought I would count a few while I sit here holding Noah. Want to count with me? 1. A God Who knows what it is like to watch His Son suffer. While I am powerless to help Noah, God allowed His Son to suffer and even die - for me. There is really truly just no way for me to comprehend the greatness of that sacrifice. 2. My incredible, loving husband (who is sporting a rakish-looking new goatee LOL). 3. A long, lazy, balmy afternoon spent lolling in the hammock with said husband. I had tons of things to do today, but somehow none of them seemed as important as hammock-lolling. 4. Back to that husband - once we decided to act like grown-ups and get out of the hammock, he pitched in and did WAY more than his share around the house so I wouldn't be overwhelmed tomorrow. 5. My seven adorable and hilarious children. They keep me laughing and smiling all of the time. Current funny moments include Matthew (10) creating ID cards for all of us and insisting that we carry them at all times. This is useful because it allows us to prove that we are who we say we are instead of cleverly disguised spies who just *look* like family members. In case the spies are exceptionally clever and manage to forge the ID cards, we have a daily "authentication phrase" that we are supposed to recite on command. (If you see any spies, don't tell them that today's phrase is "bumbo.") It's a good thing that he is so vigilant, after all, we have a HUUUUGE spy problem in our little town. LOL!! 6. A 24 hour Walgreen's just around the corner. This is a useful thing to have when your 4 year old daughter is discovered washing snails with plenty of warm soapy water . . . and all of her sibling's toothbrushes - right at bedtime, of course. (What does it say about my life when going to Walgreen's to pick out new toothbrushes with Jeff falls into the "Look, we went on a date" category???) 7. Dark chocolate. Especially dark chocolate-covered blueberries, which I think should be categorized as vitamins, not dessert - after all, they are packed with antioxidants, right??? 8. A CAMERA!! Those of you who have been reading my blog for the past few weeks know that my beloved Canon Rebel was recently broken beyond repair. In the space of 3 days, we received a Canon Rebel camera in the mail AND two different monetary donations toward a "camera fund." Isn't it just like God to provide me with more than I lost? We have spent so much on medical bills lately that we haven't been able to afford to develop any film. We will use the "camera fund" money to develop the pictures I already took as well as the ones I will be able to take now!!! (And if you Dear Givers are reading this, I need to tell you that our main computer is in the shop. I can work from the laptop just fine, but all of your email addresses are on that computer. You'll be getting thank you emails just as soon as I can get to your email addresses. In the meantime, I hope that you are reading and that you know that your gifts moved me to tears. Thank you.) 9. Noah's smile. This is just the happiest baby I have ever known. He is also unspeakably kissable. Kissing this sweetie pie is like eating Lay's potato chips - I can't stop with just one!!! He is pretty generous about kissing me, too. 10. One more to make ten before I go to bed - we are so thankful for all of the people all over the world praying for Noah. He is more blessed than he knows. Mr. Rakish Goatee has announced that it is officially time to climb into bed with Mr. Kissable Baby so that we can watch an episode of Superman (the old, black and white ones from the 1950's - we love 'em). I'm still counting, though, and maybe I can list more while I am waiting for The Phone Call tomorrow. Blessings, Kate, Mr. Rakish Goatee, and the children (Yes, it's really us. We aren't spies. I promise.) |
