Noah is being admitted in Greenville NOW

Posted in Noah Updates

OK, we still haven't gotten The Phone Call, so we still don't have results from all of Noah's labs.  When I took Noah in yesterday he had lost weight over the last 2 weeks instead of gaining any, so our doctor requested a rush appointment with a peds. g-i doctor.  The GI doc called this AM and scheduled us for 8 tomorrow morning for a visit to assess the need for a PEG tube in Noah's tummy.   In the meantime, Noah has gone from mildly dehydrated (yesterday) to clinically unstable.  He has yet to wet a diaper today - even woke up dry.  The doctor considered admitting Noah here and transporting to Greenville by ambulance, but they have arranged to admit him directly to the children's hospital at Greenville Memorial instead.  We don't have any other information yet - in fact, we don't even know where the hospital is.

I have been running Command Central here trying to get all of the correct doctors in touch with each other and arrange childcare, meals, etc.  I had suspected that Noah would be admitted tomorrow  but wasn't really logistically prepared for this to happen today.  We do know that the GI doctor will see Noah in house tomorrow in the afternoon, but we don't know any more than that.  I don't know if they will keep Noah until they can establish a feeding tube of some kind or if they will stabilize him and send him home with an appointment to come back.

Greenville is under 1 1/2 hours from here.  It is close enough that Jeff can come back home tonight, but just far enough away that he and our family and friends can't just run up briefly for a quick visit.   Honestly, I don't love being lonely, and I wish we were closer to home.   Noah is good company, though, and I couldn't ask for a sweeter little guy.

I need to run and get dinner started for my hungry crew, so I am going to close with just 5 things I'm thankful for.

1. Great hospitals.  Today other babies will die from dehydration because they didn't have access to simple IV fluids.  Noah won't be one of them.

2.  Free fun.  The local tire shop had a big Formula One thingy going on today and I took the children to see real Formula One cars, drive a simulator (I now do NOT see race car driving in their futures LOL), and bring home a ton of fun goodies.  The Lord knew that this mama's heart would need to spend time having fun with the kidlets since I won't be seeing them for a while.

3.  Well-trained children.  It was great to be able to send one child to start laundry, one to bake bread, one to walk the dog, etc.  I couldn't do all of this myself.

4.Those who have gone before.  I have a friend who has a little boy with major medical issues - far more serious than Noah's even.  He recently got a PEG tube at the hospital where Noah is going.  I was able to call her and she understood the range of emotions I was experiencing.  She was also able to give me the lay of the land so I would know what to expect in Greenville.  Noah is a "regular" at our local hospital but every hospital is different and it is nice to know what to expect.

5.  Peace that passes all understanding.  That one speaks for itself.

James the Computer Guru has added a box on the right where you can enter your email address.  We will send out a brief email each time we update the blog.  If you want to be notified when we update, just enter your email and you will be added to the list.  We won't share this information with anyone.  NOTE: if you are one of our customers and are already getting emails from www.handsandhearts.com , you will still need to sign up here.  These are two separate mailing lists, and while we may include some Noah updates in our Handprints and Heartbeats Newsletter, we will certainly not be doing it every time we post.

James or Jeff or someone will update when we have news.  Our computer is still in the shop so I can't take the laptop with me.  (sob)  I WILL be able to take Noah's new Baby Einstein DVD's that Rebekah Wilson from Hope Chest Legacy just got for Noah!  Thank you, Rebekah - this will be a great blessing for Noah.  He loves them and it is great for him to have something fun to do that doesn't exhaust him.

Love,

Kate, Jeff, and the children

Prayers. Always. Be safe and lots of big squeezes for your children who are rising up to this task and big hugs to parents who are a witness to their children of trusting in the Lord.

Don't know if you've already looked into it, but I saw this posted somewhere and thought I would mention it, just in case it hasn't been checked out yet. Pyloric Stenosis? If that hasn't been ruled out, maybe you should look into it...In Christ's love, Lori
