Posted in Noah Updates
|
Just talked with Kate and she told me that when they weighed Noah today, he weighed 14 lbs. 1 oz.!!!! That is over a pound of weight gain in one week! It seems the feeding tube is really helping with the nourishment since they put it in.
However, there does seem to be some concern about his sleeping habits. Noah is sleeping through the night, which is kind of nice for a change, but during the day he is sleeping about 2 hours for every 40 minutes he is awake. I will try to get more info from the doctors the next time I visit.
There isn't much going on during the weekend, so I don't have much else to report. I guess that means it's my turn to list some things to be thankful for. Hmmmmm.... here are the first 5 things that come to mind in no specific order of importance:
5. People who leave comments at the end of our updates. Kate and I read every single comment people write. The words of encouragement mean so much.
4. Snickers candy bars. I know this sounds kinda stupid, but I really like those candy bars. I have probably eaten more Snickers bars (pound for pound) in my life than I have eaten ham. I can say with all certainty that I have had more Snickers bars than I have eaten broccoli (and proud of it, too!) Needless to say, they are a definite comfort food for me. Peanuts, caramel, chocolate..oooooh...I LOVE those things!
3. Strawberries. Three of my sons went to a birthday party today. On the way home we passed one of those "pick your own strawberries" farms. We loaded up a bucket, brought them home, and plan on having a "very berry" breakfast tomorrow!
2. My wife, Kate. There are a lot of things I could list to be thankful for, but it would never be complete without listing my bride. She ROCKS my world. She has a great sense of humor, loves God and her family, is sensitive to the needs of others, and is intelligent about things that matter. Oh, I almost forgot about the great chocolate cake she makes.
1. The local hardware store. Yes, this sounds like another one of those blessings I list where you just shake your head and think. "Poor Kate, she has a sick child in the hospital and on top of that, she is married to THIS guy." Allow me to explain a little bit. The other night the pipes for our bathroom sink (which are so old, I think they were installed when Grover Cleveland was in office) broke. Today, I tried to open our front door and the doorknob broke in my hand (I would like to tell you it is because of my incredible strength, but I don't think you would believe me). Currently, I have no less than 6 light bulbs in my house than need to be replaced and a ceiling fan that has stopped spinning and only hums when you try to turn it on (it hums in a low C-flat in case you are trying to get a mental image of this). Recently, our garbage disposal died a horrible death and needed to be replaced. I recently replaced our front door, as well as the motor for our attic fan. So.... that is why I am thankful for having a hardware store nearby. With so many people living in one house, plus employees for the business, this house takes a lot of abuse, so its nice to know that I can get what I need to fix things up. By the way, I recently had a birthday and my gifts consisted primarily of gift cards to this hardware store.
Well, time to put the kids to bed and then go replace those broken pipes. For this job, I will need some wrenches, a flashlight, some Teflon tape and of course... a Snickers!

Dear Este Family:
I want to tell you that I am praying for Baby Noah and that you get a good report when all the tests come back. I am also having my church family pray for the whole family. I wish you would list the names of all the children in the group emails so that I could pray for each one by name.
With Love in the Name of Christ Jesus the Savior

Praise God for the improvement in Noah's weight! That should help him deal with everything else better too. Hoping & praying that the extra sleep is more of the same - Noah recovering and getting better.
Its good to count all those little blessings God sends even during tough times. Corrie Ten Boom said that she remembered the Holy Spirit encouraging her and her sister Betsy to praise him for even the bad things they endured in the camps. Later they would find out that some of what appeared to be trials were actually protections. There WERE reasons to praise God for them. Still its easier to thank God for the little blessings we see even in seasons of trial. Corrie said that even though then life was ugly on the ground all around her (these were the camps of WWII) she suddenly realized God kept sending blessings no man could steal away. His birds still came, the skies were blue and glorious, His sun still shone upon her. God is always with us and He always loves us. Every weight is lighter when we trust Christ with it.
Maybe all our blessings are even sweeter to us when we've had to measure them this way. We see later just how many ways we are blessed every day in good times. God grant that day comes as soon as possible for little Noah and all of you!
Meantime, may you always find a snickers bar when you want one. :)
Happy Mother's Day to Kate too!

I hope you know how much your family is in our prayers right now. To be honest, I check my computer frequently hoping for news.....gives us direction to pray for and praise! You and your wife are true gems---the first history kit (Egypt) I bought from you (like 3yrs ago) I could tell you had strange funny bones. Actually, the Medieval Times kit was when I began to wonder. Who puts animal erasers in a kit so my boys can launch them into brother's base of blocks and knights. Anyway, HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to your wife and give out extra kisses to your kids. Might want to check the corners of your mouth for leftover chocolate first. :-)

As I sat in church, I thought of you all....Don't know if you are able to be together today, but I imagined lots of wonderful cuddles from Noah, and Kate surrounded by her treasures....her children and husband.
May the Lord grant you sweet fellowship with each other and a sense of His presence.
I won't say Happy Mother's Day, because the circumstances aren't "happy"....but you have exhibited your peace, gratefulness, and as my dd signs her letter "joy in Jesus".

Our hearts are with your family during this very challenging time. I hope Kate was able to have some mommy moments with all the children this mother's day, but if it wasn't possible, I know their love reached across the distance, and hearts were together anyway. I appreciate your grateful hearts, and will continue to pray that little Noah will grow stronger and you'll all be able to rest in the peace and joy of the Lord.
Warmly,
Janice Campbell (from CSP)

May. 16, 2007 - Broccoli

Jeff,
Your comment about broccoli makes me think you'd have much in common with our 41st president (GHWB). I remember how nutritionists were horrified when he expressed his utter dislike of broccoli. (I just thought he was refreshingly honest. LOL)
Thank you, and Kate, for the updates. It helps to know how to pray for your family. We have a family in our Sunday School class whose youngest child has mitochondrial disease. The mother knew something was wrong and pursued it long before the doctors became concerned. Joshua is making great strides through the physical therapy and all. He is a precious child. However, his parents get very tired. Please take care of yourselves, as much as that is possible. (Kate, your mother sounds like a gem, too.)
May God bless y'all richly through all of this.
