A great day at home

Posted in Noah Updates

The children and I all had a great quiet day today.  Pretty much everything we did today falls into my thankful list!  Today, I m thankful that I  . . . .

1.  Slept in.  Not only did I sleep in, but after I woke up I laid around and snuggled with Noah for a long time.  I love that!

2.  Got to go to the chiropractor.  I forgot about that when I said I had no appointments for today, but I was soooo glad to go.  My back hurt every day in the hospital with Noah and today was the first day I could get in.  I feel much better now.

3.  Met my mom for coffee.  I mean, since I was out anyway it just made sense, right??? I think the coffee helped as much as the chiropractor visit.

4.  Goofed off with the children.  I know, it is hard to imagine that I could ever get silly and goof off, but now my secret is out!  We like to watch silly (pre-screened!!) videos on You Tube and laugh like lunatics.

5.  Took the children to the fancy-schmancy car wash where you sit inside on a couch and watch the car going through.  We were given two gift certificates to the car wash so we got our monstrous red 15 passenger van washed for free while we relaxed and admired all of the bubbles.  The littles LOVE to go to this type of carwash but we rarely do so, so it was a big treat.  (OK, Hannah wants you all to know that going to the carwash is no longer a treat for her LOL.  She says she is too big to be impressed by carwashes.)

6.  Tried out a new cookie recipe with Hannah and Sarah.  (Brown Sugar Crinkles from my MOMYS Cookbook) Then we ALL had to sample a couple of cookies apiece so we could be sure if we liked the new recipe or not LOL.  We liked them.

7.  Took a tiny little nap with tiny little Noah.

8.  Got a phone call from CRS saying that we were approved (for now)  and that we can pick up 4 cases of Neocate (one month's supply) tomorrow for FREE!!!!  Like I wrote last night, we didn't expect to hear from them before Friday and were so surprised to get that phone call today.  Now we don't have to wonder about ordering more or not.  We still need to pursue insurance coverage but this will buy us a little time to do that without having to pay for the formula.  Those four cases would have cost us nearly $800!  Since Noah is having his surgery tomorrow we will have to pick it up on Friday, but we have enough to last until then.

9.  Came up with a dastardly new parenting idea.  We only have a dining room table - no eat-in kitchen or any other table, so meals and homeschooling and crafts and everything else gets done at this one table.  Children are forever leaving things on this table and it drives me nuts.  Starting today, anyone who leaves stuff on the table has to pick up ten things for every one thing left on the table.  There is always something out in the yard or in the playroom or the laundry room that needs to be picked up.  Granted, while I love this idea, it didn't exactly make the children's thankful lists.  :-)

10.  Still have a nice evening looming ahead of me.  Hannah and Matthew are making a yummy dinner (beef sausage, roasted & herbed red potatoes, homemade applesauce, and steamed baby peas - plus our cookies for dessert).  Jeff has work to do on the computer tonight so I am going to relax and read and cuddle Noah.

If everything goes well tomorrow we will be home late afternoon and either Jeff or I will update after Noah's surgery.

Love,

Kate, Jeff, and the children

PTL! about the formula! What a blessing! We have been thinking of you and praying for you. What time is Noah's surgery in the morning so we can be praying for him?

Thanks

Thank you for asking - I should have thought to mention the time. We have to leave here in a little while to get up to Greenville, then we need to meet with the anesthesiologist and get Noah through pre-op.

May. 31, 2007 - Praying for your family and Noah

I just happened upon your blog and wanted to let you know we are praying. My oldest son (17) has dandy walker cyst syndrome and major heart problems. He is completely pacemaker depedent. I feel for you and know the roller coaster you are on. My son's diagnosis as an infant was profound retardation, and he would surely die by the age of two. He is a stapping yet learning disabled young man that brings joy to all that meet him. God does remarkable things. We will be praying for many blessings to you.

Jun. 4, 2007 - Formula costs

I understand the cost of elemental formula. I'd recommend checking with www.childrensmagic.org. They are working on insurance coverage of such formulas -- whether they are for tube-fed kids or for kids that will take them orally.

Also, even though your precious baby doesn't have food allergies, there are a lot of moms on www.kidswithfoodallergies.org that are taking care of kids with g-tubes. We'd love to share our experiences. (There are sponsored memberships available so that you wouldn't have to pay to access the message boards.)

God bless you and your family!
