Heading home!
Posted in Noah Updates
Noah has received the "all clear" from all of the doctors and is heading home this afternoon or early evening. Discharge planning for Noah is always a bit complicated so it will take the better part of the day to be sure that everything is in place. The biggest trick will be the TPN. We have a fridge full at home because he had a week's supply delivered the day he was admitted, but his recipe has changed and he needs a new delivery. The deliveries are always very late in the evening under the best of circumstances and this is considerably more rushed. Please pray that he can get his TPN at a decent hour so he can be hooked up and go to bed (and so I can go to bed LOL!) One problem is that the TPN is delivered ice cold and it takes two hours to bring it up to room temp, so our discharge coordinator is going to see if one bag of the TPN can be delivered at room temperature and ready to use.
Noah's right arm looks great, so it seems like this broviac is a winner for us. Because the infected broviac ended being pulled yesterday, Noah won't have to go home on IV antibiotics. His blood cultures are clean and there is no risk of the old broviac causing re-infection. I am SO glad not to have to add home IV therapy to Noah's already complicated schedule.
I had a nice visit with Lynette, her sweet children, and two of her friends today. Noah drew a great picture for Lynette's daughter Heather. Some friends brought Noah a big package of Crayola Color Wonder paper and pens. These pens only color on the special paper, not on tables or clothes or anything. This kit came with white paper and black paper, and white and black pens. The white pens draw on the white paper and the black pens draw on the black paper. As Noah draws, the lines appear in all sorts of rainbow colors even though he is jus tusing one pen. He is having the time of his life making masterpieces, and the nurses keep stopping by to commission private works of art for their lockers.
Noah is getting his IV out, so I need to go and offer moral support.
Love,
Kate

Sounds like this trip to the hospital has worked out well! Praying that this broviac continues to work effectively and without infection!
Our oldest son is on IV meds and gives himself infusions 3x week. His come packed in ice as well, but he's allowed to put his in lukewarm water to warm them up when it's time for an infusion (when he doesn't have time to wait the couple of hours). I'll pray that they'll be able to bring you a dose "ready" to go.
Blessings and prayers to you and yours,
Debra :)

Am thanking God you are getting to come home...for ALL of God's good gifts - you being one of them - that amidst everything you had going on (before you went to the hospital this time) you would think to share some of your good apple cake with me. May God richly bless all of you as you continue to be thankful and share good words of wisdom with the rest of us. Love, auntie el

Praise God Noah's doing better! May all these complicating factors be resolved in the most blessed way possible. Great to hear about Noah getting to draw with that set. I'd never heard of them. They sound like a neat gift for any small child, but especially for Noah right now. :))

For his arm to be the Place for the new line of choice for the broviac.
Please Lord for your will to be for the TPN to be there on time - with a warm one so that Jeff doesn't have to be the designated warmer(LOL) - the things that we do for our kids!!

Hi Kate and Jeff,
First I wanted to let you know that I have been praying for you guys for a couple of months now (ever since I was forwarded to your site.) I was wondering if Noah has ever had a CT or MRI of his brain? I'm a nurse and I have heard that some brain tumors can present with the symptoms that Noah has. Primarily the problems are with regulating temperature, motor function, and digestion. I apologize if you guys have already been down this route or if you've been asked this a thousand times. I'm fairly new to your blog and don't know all the particulars. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
