Going for surgery

Posted in Noah Updates
No sooner did I send that last update the orthopedic surgeon came in.  Noah has a bone infection in his femur on the growth plate right above his knee.  They are prepping an OR for emergency surgery to open the bone and remove as much infection as they can.  They hope to grow out cultures from the infected material so they can treat the infection precisely, but feel that there is only a 50% chance that they will be able to grow something out.  (This is a universal statistic for these cases, not something specific to Noah.)  The biggest concern is damage to the growth plate.  Noah will need orthopedic follow-up for at least a year to monitor his growth plate.  The doctor said that the level of infection in both the bone and surrounding tissues had to have been causing excruciating pain.  We don't know if one of the bugs causing his sepsis is also causing the bone infection or if it is different.

Will update when I can.  Praise God that we have an answer and a reason for this suffering and the hope of helping it.

My heart is broken now. I cry with you and little Noah. He looks so very much like my little son. I don't know what to say except that I am praying so very hard right now. Rest in Him, He is good in all things.

Lifting Noah (and you!) before the Throne of Grace right now. May the surgeon's skilled eyes and hands find all the infection and get it. May God be gracious and allow them to specifically treat whatever this bug is, and may He touch Noah's little body and cause miraculous healing. I pray for the peace and comfort that can only come from our precious Lord to surround and engulf you as you wait for Noah to come out of surgery.
God bless,

I am SO glad they found the source of his infection. Praise the Lord they know what to go after. We pray in the name of Jesus that the surgeons will be skilled in getting to the source of the infection quickly, remove what is necessary and the remaining (if any) will be taken care of with antibiotics. All Glory to go to the Great Physician. Hugging little Noah close while he goes into surgery. Praying for peace for you and Jeff and the other children. You are loved. The McCreary Family

for answers!!!!! So glad they found the source!!! This has been such a frustruating battle for you both and Noah.

We will pray that the surgery will go smoothly.
I hope and pray that Jeff is able to be there and you were able to find someone to be with the kids while the surgery is going on - not to doubt Hannah - but just to be there for tears and questions!!!

Let us know when you can - the outcome!

Our family has been reading your blog and praying for you for quite some time now. Whoever is on the computer watches for your updates so we know how to pray. Our hearts and prayers are with you daily.

May God cover you with His mercy, grace, love and comfort. May He give the surgeons skilled hands. May He give the nurses gentle hands and quick minds. May He give the lab technicians success in growing the cultures. May He use you and Noah to reach others with the glorious gospel. May He give you peace and joy in the midst of adversity.

In Him,

My heart sank when I read your surgery update! After watching my ds experience the exact same thing last summer, my heart broke for you. I'm so sorry you (and especially little Noah) have to endure this right now. Before ds had his emergency surgery, he was in so much pain that the morphine was not even touching the pain, and they had given him enough to kill a horse (literally). The pain IS agonizing and I am crying at the thought of your sweet Noah enduring it :( Ds ending up having Strep B Veridans in his hip & a systemic infection as well.

On the brighter side, the surgery will see an improvement almost immediately (although, no mama wants to see their little one endure yet another operation).

We are continually holding you all in prayer.

Though I know how hard seeing little Noah enter another surgery must be on you all, I am praying that the Lord will use it to give Noah the relief from that terrible pain. I know that would make mama and little guy happy!
I'm glad they were able to find the source and we will check back regularly to hear how he's doing. In the meanwhile, we will uphold you often in our prayers.
Hang in there little Noah! You are a brave little soldier for Jesus!

That is so awesome they found it so fast. Our prayers are with you. I feel a bit relieved now. My little neice just went through this bone infection thing. She had brokem her arm and the bone dug into the ground. It took 3 hours to get the dirt outand pit in a plate an screws. However, weeks later they found an infection in her bone, around one of the screwsa. She faced more surgery, and loys of IV antibiotics, even after she left hospital. They werte worried because this little girl has had 2 open heart surgeries; and any infection is a threat. She is fine now ans back to driving her Mom crazy. I hope this gives you some relief. Again our prayers to you and your family. Leena

Dearest Kate & Jeff,
Sorry to hear that Noah will have to go for another surgery but happy that you now know exactly what the source of his pain is and they can treat it aggressively and make him well again :) Your brave little boy is such a little trooper as are you and your family as you hang in so positively with all of the ups and downs. Praying for Noah as he heads into his surgery that they will be able to clean out the infection without damaging his growth plate and that there won't be any unexpected complications, that the Lord will guide the surgeons with skilled hands and that He will lay His healing touch on Noah and send the infection out of his body quickly and praying for you and your family as you await the results and the return of your precious baby into your arms. Thinking of you.
Hugs,
Rosina
