Going for surgery
No sooner did I send that last update the orthopedic surgeon came in. Noah has a bone infection in his femur on the growth plate right above his knee. They are prepping an OR for emergency surgery to open the bone and remove as much infection as they can. They hope to grow out cultures from the infected material so they can treat the infection precisely, but feel that there is only a 50% chance that they will be able to grow something out. (This is a universal statistic for these cases, not something specific to Noah.) The biggest concern is damage to the growth plate. Noah will need orthopedic follow-up for at least a year to monitor his growth plate. The doctor said that the level of infection in both the bone and surrounding tissues had to have been causing excruciating pain. We don't know if one of the bugs causing his sepsis is also causing the bone infection or if it is different.
Will update when I can. Praise God that we have an answer and a reason for this suffering and the hope of helping it.

My heart is broken now. I cry with you and little Noah. He looks so very much like my little son. I don't know what to say except that I am praying so very hard right now. Rest in Him, He is good in all things.
Love,
Kelly
