Children sick, Noah sicker

Posted in Noah Updates
I only have a minute, so here is the short version.  Sarah and David are still sick, but stable enough that the careful administration of drinks is rehydrating them adequately.  Hannah got sick in the night and is still quite sick, but drinking enough to squeak by.  Jeff is very sick.

Noah's new labs aren't so hot.  His hemoglobin has tanked down to 7.7.  He has some elevated infectious markers, but as of yesterday's labs they weren't terrible.  We did a dressing change today and his broviac looks lousy.  It has been bleeding and the tissue at the insertion site looks bad - discolored and it looks like the tissue is falling apart around the sutures.  None of these issues were QUITE bad enough to warrant an trip to the ER, but they were all bad enough to be a problem . . .  until Baby Noah decided to spike a temp of 101.2 right after we were told to run to the ER if it hit 101.

So, in the category of never raining but pouring, a dear friend is riding to the ER with Noah and I so she can return the van to our house, poor pitiful Jeff is going to somehow slink to the couch to somehow care for the poor pitiful children whose sickness is making them even more distraught over the fact that Mommy and Noah are leaving AGAIN.  I needed to go for a biophysical profile and nonstress test tomorrow, but can't now, so even Baby Abigail is getting shortchanged here.  So far I feel fine, and need your most earnest prayers that it stays that way.  If I get sick, I'll get booted out of Noah's room - and with both Jeff and my mom sick, there isn't a family member to take my place.

All that I can say or think is that this is an AWESOME chance for our AWESOME God to show Himself mighty.  We are definitely in over our heads here and know that only He can work all of this out for His glory.  We are sure to have some stories to tell on the other side of this latest episode.

I'll update when I can.  Thank you for your prayers for all of this.

Love,
Kate

Oh, dear. We are continuing to keep you all in our prayers- you and Noah as you go to the ER, and for the rest of the family as well.

Lord, right now I ask for your protection over Kate and Noah as they go to the ER. Please don't let either of them get this virus, and please help the hospital folks get Noah's temp back down and the broviac situation dealt with. Please heal Jeff quickly and keep the rest of the children from catching this. In the blessed name of Jesus, amen.

My utmost empathies going out to you, and more importantly our prayers...

My husband has a saying, "It's always such a relief when things go from desperate to hopeless, because then all you can do is sit back and watch God work."

Praying that your desperate & "hopeless" situation with all this sickness is just a way for the Lord to manifest His grace, peace, and love over you all. Praying for health & healing to fill your home...

In Him,

I know I've given you this verse before, but it just seems right at this time-
"The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms..." Deuteronomy 33:27

Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

Dec. 20, 2007 - What else to do?

Posted by Anonymous
Praying, Kate, because that is all I can do--I cannot even think about being away from the house right now, and believe me I would if I could! My dad has been in the hospital in Charleston all week, and may be facing a spinal fusion himself for debilitating spinal stenosis that has suddenly worsened--so I'm already leaving my mom on her own to deal with that. With both brothers out of the country, I'd really like to go to Charleston to help--but here I must stay. So here I will pray--because what else can any of us do at times like this? And watch for God to act in ways beyond our imagining. It helps me to stand firm in our battles as I see you unshaken by what would overwhelm most of us--but I know it is God working in you. Wish I could be more practical help--are the sick ones up to custard? Keeping you all before the throne--Marion
