Admitted to hospital
Posted in Noah Updates
It doesn't come as any big surprise that Noah ended up admitted. Thanks to our awesome home nurse, I was able to bring a printed copy of yesterday's labs up here with me. When they drew labs tonight the numbers were markedly worse than yesterday, esp. in regards to his CRP which indicates infection. His hemoglobin is also continuing to fall, so he is being typed and cross-matched for an inevitable transfusion. The ER doc spoke to ID (infectious disease) right away and Noah is being treated aggressively for the primary two possibilities - an antibiotic resistant gram negative infection or a fungal infection. Both are really bad choices. We don't know that he has one of those choices, but they seem to be the only things that would cause an infection given the antibiotics he is on at home. I would imagine that we will know more tomorrow as the cultures grow out. I am SO thankful that we took his temp right as it was finally spiking above the "go to the ER" level!! It is amazing that we could tell something was brewing all week and that only now are we seeing this huge change in his labs.
The ER doctor was great and even had Noah sedated for his cath. She decided very quickly that he was going to need to be admitted and began working in that direction right away.
Jeff said he is feeling very bad and that Timothy has now gotten sick. I had really hoped that no one else would get this! Timothy's birthday is Sunday and we are praying for all healthy dc by then. No one can even come visit with this going on at home, and my mom has the same bug. If anyone wants to come by, we are in room 5508 and would certainly appreciate any visitors since family can't come.
Noah, as usual, looks really good and seems happy to be here. Our precious friends Shannon and Matt Grubb drove Noah and I up and got us settled, and we look forward to seeing the doctors so we can get some much needed sleep. I'll update tomorrow (actually I guess later today!) when I know something.
Love,
Kate

Continuing to pray! You may feel alone there in the hospital with no family able to visit, but you are surrounded by the love and prayers of many!

Ugh. Kate, praying that there are local readers who will be able to come by and visit. I'm so sorry you are in the midst of this - I can't imagine how torn you feel with sick folks at home and Noah in the hospital.
I'm praying they will qiuckly discover what is causing Noah's recent numbers....praying for Jeff and children, and YOU and ABIGAL.

Dec. 21, 2007 - We're here

Recently I was listening to a message on 106.9 and I don't remember the whole content, but was struck with the realization that the body of Christ are all family members. That even the person I don't like all that much is still my brother or my sister. Period. I know we all know that, but do we really KNOW that! We are the children of a mighty and holy God who has chosen you and me. Often I tell my children, "God gives good and perfect gifts. So the fact that he gave you your sister/brother tells me that she/he was the PERFECT gift for YOU!"
So, we will pray earnestly that you do not get sick, but if you do, there are family members about you that will help support you and your family. Because you are our sister.

We're praying for all of you - and I know that many others are as well. A friend in my homeschool group asked me about you a couple weeks ago. My sister talks about you often ... you are in so many prayers. And my main thought last week when I had no lights & no heat & could see my own breath was "thank God it is me & not Kate & Noah!"
I hope you are resting and I pray that the doctors get some answers soon in order to help your precious boy.
All I hath needed Thy hand has provided,
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me.

Kate, we are continuing to pray for all of you. I am SO sorry this is going on!! Noah's situation is stressful enough without a nasty stomach virus in the mix. We will continue to pray that nobody else gets this (poor Timothy!) and that everyone else recovers quickly. I'm glad you are at the hospital and Noah is receiving care. God bless!

Kate, I will continue to pray, especially for them to find out what is making Noah's numbers lower. I will also pray for you (and Abigail!) and your dh and children. The stomach virus is just no fun.
I just want you to know how encouraged I am by you. You have gone through a lot and continue to be buffetted by trials, and yet I hear not one complaint from you. May we all be as faithful!
Love,
Kelly

I'm so sorry things have taken such a turn. I've really been praying that the bug would stop spreading. But you know, maybe this admission to the hospital is God's way of keeping you and Abigail out of the sickness. We'll continue to pray for healing for you all.
Blessings, Hugs, and Prayers,
Lisa
