Fighting fevers
Posted in Noah Updates
Well, several of our children are down with some sort of bug - extremely high fevers, aches, and total exhaustion. Normally I would classify that as a pretty benign virus destined to run its course, but if Mr. Noah gets it . . . . any fever over 101 wins him a three day stay in the hospital while blood cultures are done. We are hoping that maybe HE gave it to THEM and that he will escape, and we would appreciate your prayers for the same.
We are watching him closely and he is running a low grade temp. It was 99.2 before his nap, and since he seldom runs about 97 or 97.5 even when sick, that is enough for us to stand up and take notice. It isn't enough to run to Greenville, but we are sort of on standby for now. If we go to the ER we will update before we leave. If he stays fine I won't probably update again until later tomorrow.
Quick "fever funny" - when Sarah was about 2.5 years old she had a fever, and as small children will do, she misheard the word "fever" and insisted we had said "beaver." She quickly convinced herself that she had fallen pray to some sort of strange beaver attack. The next day she tripped and fell backwards against our coffee table, bumping her head in the process. This happened right as her beaver, err, fever was cranking up and she was feeling "beaverish." Somehow this convinced her that: 1. A beaver lived in our coffee table, and 2. it had bitten her. Mystery solved. She was sick from too many beaver bites. She became an infant on a mission and would routinely try to eradicate the beaver from his coffee table stronghold. She would sneak up and yell at the table, lob duplos at it, tiptoe up and kick it (only her toes lost on that one), mutter darkly when passing it, etc. It was years before she quit her vendetta. To this day our children refer to having beavers, being beaverish, etc. It is a silly Sarah memory that brings smiles to even the beaverish among us. :-)
Love,
Kate

Kate, your children have supplied my family with more funny phrases than you could shake a stick at--there's Matthew's "I don't wink so!" in response to anything totally out of the question...Timothy's "burr gicky" which we still apply when confronted with truly nasty diapers...But I do think Sarah Elisabeth is a real stand-out in terms of misinterpretations and amazing takes on how life really works. With all her incredible encounters with critters, it is pretty neat that she still likes animals in general, huh?
Sorry you all are having such a round of fevers and tummy bugs--praying for the sick ones and especially for Noah and you and Mary Faith Adele.
Love, Marion

We are praying that Noah gave the the bug to the kids, and that his fever will not go any higher than it already is.
I love the beaver story! It is amazing what kids think! I've noticed that my 14 year old still does that (thinks she hears us say one thing when we said something else, and then repeats it to others.)
God Bless you and yours!

We pray for you lots around here, and have followed your blog for quite some time.
The beaver story was too cute. I posted yesterday about beavers on my blog (www.fromuswithlove.blogspot.com). We live not far from you (I *think*) and you can tell little Sarah that we DO have LOTS of beavers! Never thought of them quite like she did, though!
God bless you.
