The waiting game

Posted in Noah Updates
Noah was admitted to the hospital last night.  The ER doc took one look at his chest and said she was sending him upstairs - I can't say we were surprised.  He was immediately started on two of the big-gun IV antibiotics to cover both gram positive and gram negative bugs.

Right now, we are just watching and waiting.  The tissue around Noah's central line is clearly VERY inflamed and everyone's best guess is that it is cellulitis (a deep tissue infection).  The two big questions are whether we can clear the infection without pulling the line, and whether the infection will (or has) spread and become systemic.   We are still waiting for the results of the blood cultures.  Noah still hasn't totally bounced back from his last terrible infection and I'm concerned about the ramifications of yet another infection so soon.

Noah is obviously sick, but not "scary sick."  He is very, very tired - slept in until almost 1:00 this afternoon.  He's been awake for about 30 minutes and has been lying in bed watching Nemo (of course!).  He's definitely much sicker than he was yesterday.  At some point this morning he started to develop dark red circles around his eyes like he did last time he was sick.  It is pretty dramatic looking but no one really knows what it means.  He hasn't spiked any high fevers, which is really good.   There is a "Donald Duck's Birthday Party" scheduled in the playroom at 3:00 and I am hoping he will feel well enough to at least go check things out.

Noah's chest is looking worse and worse each time we check it.  He's only been on IV antibiotics for about 12 hours (2 doses each of both drugs) so we are still hoping that this infection will reverse course.  We've seen several doctors but are still waiting for ID and surgery - the two doctors who will decide the fate of the line.

You all can't even imagine how much your prayers and comments/calls mean to me.  I'm weary of all of this but so encouraged and uplifted by all of you. Moses had two wonderful friends holding up his arms, and I am beyond blessed to have thousands of you holding up mine.  I've been clinging to the various scripture verses that several of you posted and know that God's strength can be made perfect in my weakness.

Blessings,
Kate

Kate. This morning I have been meditating and memorizing some really wonderful Scriptures that I would love to share with you. Is. 40:26-31. Verses 30-31 are quoted all the time, but I have found the verses prior to them to be so refreshing. 26. Lift up your eyes on high and see who has created these stars, teh One who leads forth thier host by number, He calls them all by namd; Because of the greatness of His might and the strength of His power not one of them is missing. 27. Why do you say, O Jacob, and assert, O Israel, "My way is hidden from the Lord, and the justice due me escapes the notice of my God?" 28. Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. 29. He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increases power. 30. Though youths grow weary and tired, and vigorous young men stumble badly, 31. yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.

I am praying for you, Kate--and for Noah and the Dr's and the entire family.
love

I have been praying and told others to be praying. He is our refuge, our strength, Is 6 :3 Praise His Holy, Holy , Holy Name. To say Holy 3 times is the Highest Honor we can give our Lord. Sometimes when I know nothing else to do or say I just say Holy, Holy , Holy. He takes it from there.

Hi Kate and Noah,

God it there! He said" My Presence will go with you and I will give you rest." Exodus 33:14 This verse has given me so much courage and peace. To know that the Lord's Presence is with us and He is watching over the entire situation gives us rest from stress and we know that he makes all things well!! We know that He is the One to turn to and lay our cares at His feet. It isn't always easy to do and sometimes when weary of the battle we still trudge on in carrying the burden of worry. Yet, He stands ever ready to take the yoke upon His shoulders and even carry us as well!! Will be lifting you up in prayer. Hang in there!!!

Kate,

I too, am helping hold up your arms like Moses. There are alway prayers going up on your behalf from me but there will be even more on Noah's behalf until this situation resolves itself. I hope in some small way I am an encouragement to you and your family. You are deeply cared about even though we have never met.

I think you were set up. I bet he heard about the Donald Duck birthday party the last time you were there, and plotted to be sick so he could come back. He knew this way he could do Disney again! :)

But seriously, we keep your family and Noah in our prayers every night. Hopefully this will be a quick in-and-out hospital visit.

Kate,

Prayers continue for your sweet baby from our family. I can only imagine the emotional anguish you are going through. Praise the Lord for good doctors and that you and your husband know when to take him in.

You mentioned verses that you have been sent. When I was sick, I clung to 2Kings20:5 (I think that's right): "I have heard your prayers, I have seen your tears. Surely, I will heal you."

When things would really get to me and I was truly petrified, I would pray Psalm 91.5-6: "I will not be afraid of the terror by night or the arrow that flies by day, of the pestilence that stalks in darkness or the destruction that lays waste at noon." I still pray these when I am afraid. I hope they will offer you some comfort.

You are strong, Kate. And God knows what you need. As always, I will be anxiously awaiting the next report on Noah. Your sweet boy has touched a LOT of lives.

Dearest Kate and Jeff,

I'm praying for you today. I'm praying for the fruits of the Spirit - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. For in His manifestation through His Spirit is there contentment in all circumstances.

Blessings as you go through today. Our God is a mighty God, and it has been my privelage to watch you go through these last few years. It has been a beautiful picture of holding onto God's character in faith in the most difficult of circumstances and suffering. Praise God that He has entrusted Noah to such beautiful, faithful and loving parents.

I'm praying that you find comfort in these scriptures today:

Psalm 139
For the director of music. Of David. A psalm.
1 O LORD, you have searched me
and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.

3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.

4 Before a word is on my tongue
you know it completely, O LORD.

5 You hem me in—behind and before;
you have laid your hand upon me.

6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.

7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?

8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, [a] you are there.

9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,

10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.

11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,"

12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.

Love,
Liz

I can only imagine what you must go through on a daily basis. We had a child that died at 6 hours of age. It must be very hard seeing your child suffer so much but you must feel soooo happy when you see your child enjoy life. God has lent him to you. Let tears come if you must but realize that God is in control and he will be in the best place possible when he leaves you if it is shortly or 40 years from now. Keep believing!

After homeschooling all of our children since pre-K, our 14 yr old was called home 4/1/09 after a long battle with neurological (and other) issues. Her birthday is Thursday (6/11/94) so this struggle is fresh to us. Our empathetic, heart-felt prayers go out to you for Noah AND for Mom and Dad. Our God shall supply all your NEEDS according to His riches in glory, His mercies are new EVERY morning (especially the tough ones), and ALL of Noah's days were ORDAINED before a single one came to be (Ps 139). We too have sensed comfort in the ministry of the saints to our family and in the TRUTH of God's Word. We will keep up as things develop and continue to pray!

I know you already believe it, but to hear it from another helps - Our God is an AWESOME God! He created you, He created Noah, He intimately knows what is going on at the tinest level of your heart and Noah's body! He CARES! He's there wrapping His incredibly HUGE arms around you! rest! Cling to Him - tell Satan and his fear to go to h***. in Jesus' name. Amen

Dear Lord,
Every day Noah's family needs your guidance for their lives. Lord, I thank you for promising that you are there to lead them every day. Lord, I ask that you would give them special wisdom and direction each day and keep Noah sheltered underneath your precious wings of love. . And I ask not only for divine guidance for them, but for each one who works with him . We ask this especially for his therapists, nurses, doctors, babysitters, Sunday school teachers, etc . Father, I ask they would sense your special anointing on them to bless Noah and his family . I also pray that your Holy Spirit would touch those who help them as a family, In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

Jun. 9, 2009 - Psalm 61 - Song- My Refuge

a little guitar tune to Psalm 61.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeCjkyJna-A

Psalm 61
Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.

From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.

I will abide in they tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of they wings.

For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name.

Thou wilt prolong the king's life: and his years as many generations.

He shall abide before God for ever: O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him.

So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was good to hear this song when I was tired and couldn't seem to read/pray anymore.
I pray His words will uplift you and keep you always. I know our Lord will be a shelter and a strong tower through these times. Kate, praying for you and Noah to abide in His tabernacle, and know His wings will cover you as needed.
I'm praying for you and family. ((Hugs))
Dear Kate and family,
We haven't posted a comment in a long time, but that doesn't mean we haven't been praying every day for all of you. Our daughter brings her laptop with your new posts when I don't have a chance to check in. I have felt your emotions with you over the past few posts. I remember being in a similar situation a few years back and needing reminders of HIS grace to keep me on track. When you aren't getting enough rest (restful sleep) it is easy to fall into despair waiting for the next piece of news. We listened to a series of messages by Otto Koning of the Pineapple series. One of the messages struck a note with me for times just like these. He said most times we praise God when things are going well and cry out to Him when things aren't going so well. He proposed that we do the opposite. We should use the 'weapon' of praise when things aren't going so well and use the weapon of 'crying out' when things are looking good. I have found this to bring HIS greatest comfort to my heart. In fact when crises present themselves the first words I try to speak are thanksgiving to God for bringing whatever it is into our lives to make us more fit for HIS kingdom. When I do...I am almost instantly covered in HIS peace...the kind that passes ALL understanding. When you think of it that is what we crave the most when we are in a crisis. Practically speaking, we also crave hugs and prayers from the body. Rest assured you are receiving much prayer from this home and if we were close you would receive hugs too. May HE bless you with His words each moment and give you infinite peace and joy and contentment in your relationships as you praise Him for this time.
Grace and Peace,
Ruth for all of the Flemings
