And still we wait . . .

Posted in Noah Updates
This is just such a DIFFERENT hospitalization for us.  Noah doesn't feel awful, but he doesn't feel good. He isn't running a high fever, but his temp is elevated for him.  His chest looks a little worse, but surgery decided that he isn't sick enough for a new line - which leaves me both completely relieved and a little frustrated.  Since Noah is on such big gun antibiotics, the infection shouldn't break loose, hit his bloodstream, and wreak havoc . . .  but by the same token his chest shouldn't be looking worse.

He's just stuck right in the middle, not healthy enough to send home and not sick enough for any big intervention.  I have a lot of questions for the doctors in the morning, and when I get more answers I'll post again.  Until then, we wait for him to get better or worse.

Blessings,
Kate

I understand that it's easy to feel helpless when feeling like you're doing nothing. You feel proactive when something is being done that you can see, a new antibiotic, or surgery. But try to find some momentary peace that Noah is being spared that for now, and in the knowledge that he may have been taken to the ER easily enough to have prevented this from becoming a big problem.

I'm not Christian in the typical sense, and don't pray, but Noah, you, and your family have been in my thoughts at least several times throughout every day.

As I said, no matter what happens, Noah will find his peace, either in rest or in a full recovery. Even when medical science say it can't happen, believe me, it can. It did for me.

Much love,
Aria

Hi Kate and Noah,
Sometimes it seems that there is just no peace and the answers elude us. That is when God is saying trust in Me. Even though we "do" trust in Him it seems that at times through weariness and the lengthy battle that our hope is less than high. I am also in a very lengthy, frustrating and scary battle for one of my children. Sometimes it seems that it goes from bad to worse to unbelieveably horrid!!! There are days that I have to push myself to keep going. Some days I really don't want to. I just want to hide. Then God in His mercy picks me up, gives me a hug, dusts me off and says"keep walking." So Kate, God love you, what a wonderful person you are. Keep walking. Be it slow or forced, keep walking. God is with you and so are many. You have a right to be frustrated, weary and tired. Just remember that you and your family are loved by untold numbers of people. Most of all God is in love with you and Noah. He will send strength. Take Courage. You are in our prayers as well as Noah and all your family.
Always Hope & Blessings Will Follow,
Janet

Jun. 10, 2009 - Noah in the Middle

Prayers continue, Kate. I have been in this situation myself for a period of years with MRSA, cellulitis, horribly inflamed and infected drains and wounds. I can't imagine a baby like Noah going through all of that. Whatta trooper!!! He is brave, hon, but so are you. You are watching and waiting. . . oh, so much harder! Praying for dear Noah's chest to heal and for you to get some rest in the arms of Jesus, the REAL kind of rest.

As usual, awaiting the next installment. When Noah is healed, I will be doing such a happy dance for you guys. And at my age and in the condition I'm in, that will be a sight to see!

I'm so glad it's not looking worse. Better would be great...but I'm glad it's not awful.
We are starting to read a book called Singing in the Night, about how women in the persecuted church endure. The current chapter is about a Chinese woman whose husband has been incarcerated twice for christian activities. She tells of her terrible lonliness, especially at night..
"But last night I had a wonderful exprience," She smiled. "I was really sad, feeling worse than ever. Then alla t once I started thinking about Paul and Silas, and how they found themselves in prison in Philippi. Remember how in the middle of the night they sang together? It occured to me that singing might be good for me too. It must have been the Holy Spirit who prompted me, ...beacuse it really helped...While I was singing in the darkness, I began to feel uplifted. Somehow the pain began to diminish. I just sang and sang until I fell asleep......Singing to God makes all the difference between pain and joy. In fact, it works weven better when I don't feel like singing at all".(pg 38-39)
This wasn't the end of her trouble, or her pain. But she found one key to endure.
The Lord bless you with songs welling up...in you, in Noah, in your family.
Father Grant those who care for this dear family wisdom, grace, mercy from You. Love them, provide for them, show Your tender mercies, sustain them and show those around them that "there is a God in Israel"!
hugs, tears and prayers,
Monique

As I was reminded on Katie's page a couple of weeks ago, standing pat means standing in faith and waiting on the Lord, though sometimes it doesn't feel like it :-) It's hard feeling being there. I'm praying Noah will get well and you will get home and get some rest. {{{hugs}}}

Much love,

Kate,

I'm sorry I have not posted before now, but I have been and am praying for Noah and for you. Philippians 4:6-7 really spoke to me today ~ "Be anxious for nothing (NOTHING!), but in everything (EVERYTHING!) by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus." How I long for this verse to be true in my life! I am praying this truth for you tonight Kate. May God's indescribable, crazy, doesn't-make-sense-under-the-circumstances PEACE rule in your heart.

Jun. 11, 2009 - The Lord will restore Noah to Health!

Posted by Anonymous
Dear Kate,

We are praying for Noah and your family. Please let these verses encourage you as you meditate on the Word of God. Rest in the peace of God as you think on the Word of God as Philippians 4: 6-9 says. (In Hebrew The meaning of the name Noah is: Comfort; rest; quiet. Also found meaning: peaceful and "LONG-LIVED"!) You definitely well named this precious little boy!

Philippians 4:6-9 (New Living Translation)
6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. 9 Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.

Psalm 41:3 (New Living Translation)
3 The LORD nurses them when they are sick
and restores them to health.

Psalm 41:3 (New American Standard Bible)
3The LORD will sustain him upon his sickbed;
In his illness, You restore him to health.

Psalm 41:3 (New International Version)
3 The LORD will sustain him on his sickbed
and restore him from his bed of illness.

Much Love,
The Ericksons

Jun. 12, 2009 - The Lord will bless you and Noah and keep you in Perfect Peace!

Posted by Anonymous
Good Morning Kate,

The Lord reminded me of one of my favorite scriptures this morning and I wanted to share with you.

Isaiah 26:3-4 (King James Version)
3Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

I know from reading your blog that you and Jeff trust the Lord. A way I keep my mind stayed on the Lord is to sing praises to Him. If your in a place you can't sing then just speaking them out loud, even if it is a whisper, helps me experience the peace of God.

Here are some beautiful praise scriptures from Psalms:

Psalm 59:16-17 (New Living Translation)
16 But as for me, I will sing about your power.
Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love.
For you have been my refuge,
a place of safety when I am in distress.
17 O my Strength, to you I sing praises,
for you, O God, are my refuge,
the God who shows me unfailing love.

Psalm 103 (King James Version)
1Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
2Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
3Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
4Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;
5Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.

Psalm 34 (New Living Translation)
1 I will praise the LORD at all times.
I will constantly speak his praises.
2 I will boast only in the LORD;
let all who are helpless take heart.
3 Come, let us tell of the LORD’s greatness;
let us exalt his name together.
4 I prayed to the LORD, and he answered me.
He freed me from all my fears.
5 Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy;
no shadow of shame will darken their faces.
6 In my desperation I prayed, and the LORD listened;
he saved me from all my troubles.
7 For the angel of the LORD is a guard;
he surrounds and defends all who fear him.
8 Taste and see that the LORD is good.
Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!
9 Fear the LORD, you his godly people,
for those who fear him will have all they need.
10 Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry,
but those who trust in the LORD will lack no good thing.

Much Love,
W Erickson
