Looking better

Posted in Noah Updates
Noah's chest is looking MUCH better - still yucky, but vastly improved.  He still complains that it hurts but I'm confident that the pain will go away as he heals.

Noah still doesn't feel up to par.  I wouldn't be surprised if he were due for a transfusion as that would expain his fatigue.   All of the other children came up to visit yesterday and that definitely lifted his spirits (and mine!)

Please pray for Noah's sleep schedule.  He gets IV benadryl before each round of antibiotics.  The benadryl typically puts him right to sleep, but unfortunately we are on a less-than-optimal schedule.  He's getting benadyrl in the morning too early for a nap, then again about 6 Pm which is too late for a nap and too early for bedtime.  We are working on shifting things but it is slow going due to the nature of the antibiotics he's on.  He ends up very keyed up, cranky, and miserable in the late afternoon due to this schedule.  Yesterday he feel asleep at 6:30 with the benadryl and he was sooooooo tired that I was sure that he would just sleep through night, but he was awakened at 8:30 for a finger stick.  :-(  It had to be done at that specific time so it wasn't that anyone did anything wrong, btw.  He woke up crying and had slept just long enough that he couldn't go back to sleep - but was too tired to be happy or pleasant.  He spent the next several hours whining and climbing/rolling all over me.   The two of us could really use a good night's sleep and I covet your prayers to that end!  We have a different style of bed than usual (Noah wants me to sleep with him) and it is extremely uncomfortable and loud.  Between the bed and the late night wrestling session with my very strong toddler, I woke up very sore this morning.  I am so thankful that I tossed one of those little disposable, single use heating pads in my bag.  (I can't remember the name of those things - thermal care or something).  It had been sitting on my bathroom shelf and I just "happened" to see it and decide to put it in my hospital bag.  I put it on my back and it feels soooooo good.  I don't even know why we had it - they are kind of pricey and we have reusable heating pads already - but I am thankful that the Lord directed my eyes to it in the hubub of packing.  I'm going to see if I can pick up another package of them to keep in my hospital bag.

I wanted to answer a couple of questions from comments.  First, Noah wears a size 3T.  He still has some 2T things that he wears, but if I buy new things I buy 3T now.    Second, yes, I do read every single comment on the blog.  :-)  Most of the children read at least most of them, and Jeff reads a lot of them.  Sitting with my laptop to read comments is my favorite treat when I get a quiet moment.   Right now I can also read email on my laptop, but not easily send it.  Jeff is going to be changing things so that my personal email address goes to my laptop, allowing me to read and send more easily.  (Right now I read them online where they are stored by our spam filter.)

Third, the address for Noah mail is:

Noah Estes
c/o Hands and Hearts
206 Yosemite Dr.
Greenwood, SC 29649

I have a HUGE favor to ask all of you.  We've received quite a few pictures for Noah's Prayer Warrior Wall, and a number of those pictures have come with a little something for Noah - anything from a pacakge of stickers (he loves stickers!) to entire packages of goodies for him.  I saved all of the boxes/envelopes with little reminders of what came in each one so that I could send a thank you . . . .  until a "helpful" child assumed that it was all trash, emptied the boxes, and took the empty boxes down for garbage collection!  I want VERY much to thank each of you (even though sometimes the best I can manage is a thank you here on the blog), so if you have sent anything to Noah over the last several weeks and you haven't heard a "thank you," would you please drop me an email??!!!  I know I wouldn't want to come across as begging for thanks if I sent somehting to someone, but we really do want to set this straight.  We are so deeply, deeply appreciative of everything that is sent to him and it grieves me very much not to be able to say thank you properly - it is the very least I can do after so many of you have so sweetly given to Noah.  (I can say that EVERY single picture and package has been met with absolute delight by Noah - if he sees the mail coming in the house, he yells, "Der's zebwas in it!"  :-)  It just makes his day to get mail.  I am resolved to make a document on the computer so I can list who sent what without worrying about the boxes so we avoid this in the future.

*** Live, breaking, prayer request update :-) **** Our angelic nurse Gail (one of our favorites!!) just came in, sat on the bed, and informed me that it was miserably uncomfortable and that I didn't need to be sleeping on it.  She has removed the bed (Noah waved and said, "bye, bye, bad bed!") and is getting us a better one.  Yay!   Now all we have to do is persuade Noah to SLEEP in it LOL.

Blessings,
Kate

Dear Kate, I am so glad you are getting a better bed! I continue to pray for you and your family often. I'll pray especially for a good night's sleep tonight (as well as maybe some rest during the day today?). May the Lord continue to comfort and encourage you.

So Exciting! A new bed! Hospital beds can be the worst. Praise God for a better bed. Lord willing you will be in your own bed soon. We are praying for you and your family. It is a treat to receive updates from you. To know how to pray and what your needs are. You have been a wonderful example to all of trusting Christ, even in your weakest and trying moments. We will be praying for rest for both you and Noah.

Praise God for the "bad bed" being taken away and a better, more-comfortable one being brought in!

And thank you, God, for the prompting to take the heat pack to the hospital, as well.

He is so good to us, and I am so heartened to hear that He is there with you in tangible ways today.

Continuing to pray for Noah (and the rest of your family).

Thanks for the update.

I was so glad to get the update. I will be praying that you & Noah will get a great night's sleep tonight! If you check out www.thermacare.com they have $3 coupons for their heat wraps. They occasionally send out free samples in the mail too. Know that we are praying for all of you! God bless you!

Kate,

Did you have one of those adjusting beds that are supposed to prevent bedsores that makes motor noises all night and makes you feel like you are sleeping on a ameoba??? I hate those things! God bless your nurse.

I'm so sorry you had such a rough night, but I'm so glad the Lord provided you with the heating thingy. Those things are wonderful!

Much love,
Melanie

Hi Kate and family,
I don't always respond with a comment but please know I read and pray about every post! It was good to read that you are feeling more hopeful about Noah's situation now and I pray for quick healing so that you both can go home. Hopefully with the new bed you and Noah will both sleep better, at least!

Yeah! A new (and hopefully) better bed. Praying that tonight you will get a good nights sleep. Better than that, I pray that maybe, just maybe Noah will be discharged and you can go home and sleep in your own bed!

I honestly don't know how you do it, Kate. You must have a very helpful and unselfish family who takes care of everything while you are gone. When I go away I come home to a messy house and things out of place and it takes me days to get everything back where it belongs!

You are such a testimony of faith and grace. I pray the Lord will continue to uphold you and give you strength in this most recent trial with Noah's health.

I keep saying I am going to send you a card and a photo for Noah's wall and I have yet to do it. We are busy trying to finish up the school year and get ready for some much needed time off. It has been a very stressful school year for us with having to deal with two very different family situations that actually had nothing to do with our schooling, but caused us alot of heartache. I am ready for the break!

Sorry this is so long. But since you said you read all the comments while you are sitting in the hospital room, I thought I'd give you something to read besides just, "Praying for you."

My favorite scripture these days: Psalm 57:1-3

Praying for the whole family!
Keep the faith!

I am SO glad to hear that Noah is doing better. I am also glad that you are getting a more comfortable bed. It is hard enough to sleep in a hospital without trying to sleep on an uncomfortable bed. I am excited about sending a picture for Noah's wall. Love, Ruby

Dear Kate & Noah...and lurking family!
I just LOVE how our Father cares for us! He is truly caring and loving and in control of all. Know that we are praying for your entire family. You are an amazing woman, Kate! Thank you for all of your transparency in writing this blog. You have blessed US in so many ways, even though you are the one going through these trials. God is so good! Thank you, again! I've been out of state and just got "updated" on all that has happened. So sorry Noah has been sick, but he's already doing better! By my time-scale, he's been sick for all of 10 minutes! If only it could have *really* lasted that long.

I hope you get a much better night's sleep tonight in the better bed.

Jun. 12, 2009 - YAY Nurse GAIL!!

Posted by DonnaC
Praying especially a wonderful blessing for Gail! It's so nice when the nurses (or ANY of the medical profession) go above and beyond, *notice* something amiss, and do what needs to be done. Gail, YOU are appreciated! Do not be weary in doing good: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. {{hugs to Gail}}

Kate, praying for a good night's sleep and a quick resolution to the scheduling so Noah can sleep when he needs to be sleeping and to not be disturbed when he is sleeping. Praying for your back--miserable to have back problems.

Continued prayers for all of you! So glad the kids got to come and visit you both! {{hugs & continued prayers}}

Jun. 12, 2009 - TO KAREN (and anyone else interested)

Posted by DonnaC
Karen, I tried to post on your own blog, but it wouldn't let me leave html coding, even with spaces added. Then I thought maybe someone else needed the same help, so here it is... I hope you read this!

Here's the html I used to post on my blog to link to her blog.

< CENTER > <h 3>Noah's Family's Upda tes</h3 > < / CENTER>
<CEN TER > < a hr ef= " ht tp://w ww.homeschoo lblogge r. com/ou rquiverful l/"
targ et = "_ blan k"> <IMG SR C = "ht tp://don nac.com/N oahsF amily. jp g"> < /a> < /C EN TER> < b r / >

You'll have to get rid of all the spaces above. It wouldn't post with html code there.

You can title your link anything you want - put in place of "Noah's Family's Updates" as I have above. Where ever you save the photo goes in place of the "donnac.com/NoahsFamily,jpg".

I right clicked on the old picture that Kate had up (but you can click on the current pic of Noah to do the same thing). I chose save picture - and saved it on my computer. If your blog gives you space to save a photo you should be able to save it thru blogger.com, otherwise you need to find a place to upload the photo online. (This is so you aren't taking bandwidth from homeschoolblogger.)

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Jun. 12, 2009 - I'm Back!

Sweet Noah, I just came in from our vacation and read that you have NOT been on vacation while I was gone! I will be praying for you and Mommy.

BTW Kate, Before we left I took Riley to the eye doctor for what we thought was a routine checkup. He was complaining with blurry vision in his right eye. It was full of blood and his left eye had some issues too. They believe that he has Wagner's Syndrome which is a genetic disorder central to the eye. He has almost no vision in his right eye at this point due to the blood. He is wearing glasses for his left eye with a clear lense in the right for now. We go back on Monday to see if it is any better.

Riley wonders if David got a Webkinz for his birthday, and if so, which one it was?

I'll be praying for you.

Love, Ms. Joy =)

Jun. 12, 2009 - Gifts for Noah

Posted by Anonymous
Dear Kate:
Thank you for the address for Noah. I only have 3 children and I know that if one of them got a gift that although the other 2 would not say anything but you could see in their eyes how disapointed they were. Could you possibly make a list of each child and what little things they like. I can't send much but I would like to make a little box with something for each of them even if it is only a little something from our Dollar Tree store. I will also try and send a picture of my husband and myself and one of my children when they were younger (they havent had a picture taken in ages since they grew up) for Noah's wall.
I am praying for you all

Our God even cares about beds. It wasn't an accident!

I'm still fighting this cold so have just stayed away, but I want to come and spend time with you and cry on your shoulder and let you cry on mine. It's been a very difficult week for us and only promises to get tougher as we deal with issues and unloving people. Would love to just sit and talk over a good cup of Starbucks!

Maybe Jeff can come to the hospital tomorrow morning and let you come to the box sale! HEE HEE * hint hint * I'm actually hoping you will get out of there today or tomorrow anyhows!

We are going to take the family to the mountains tomorrow afternoon and just spend some time in nature.

Love and hugs to you!

Maybe the box getting tossed could be 'worked for the good of those that love Him'-namely...you! :-) We all know you are a very gracious family and are thankful for everything that is done for you, so just look at it this way...this is just one less thing on your to-do list! :-D The time you had put aside to respond with 'Thank You notes can now be spent on sleep!(Time? What time? Who are we kidding? Only in our wild, fantasy mommy dreams! lol) Enjoy the rest!
:-) So glad to hear Noah is better.

Hello Kate,
I have been praying for Noah & your family for over a year now. Your faith has blessed, inspired & strengthened (my faith) me in ways that only God can explain. Remember, you are not alone & HE is faithful! We love you even though we never met & I am blessed to have you as my sister in Christ. How I wish we lived closer! My 4 children & I want to come & be a blessing in tangible ways. Thankfully, we can PRAY.
May God comfort you, Noah, & your family. May HE make a way.....

Jun. 15, 2009 - Thank you notes

Posted by Renee & Jared
Kate - you and your family are so special. Your desire to send thank you's touched my heart. I am not sending you my information because I agree with the other comment - This is a "happy" accident. The least you can do, is to enjoy the extra time and spend it with your wonderful family. Just reading about it on the blog is enough thanks for us. I am so thankful that you are home. We pray daily for you and your family.

I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.

Ephesians 1:18-21 NIV -

May God bless you richly today.

Aug. 1, 2009 - A prayer for healing

Posted by Anonymous
In the name of Jesus, Noah, you are healed., In the name of Jesus, the lifegiving, healing, and miracle power of our Father in heaven is flowing into you, and through you, and bringing healing throughout your entire body. In the name of Jesus, all the spirits and works of the devil are commanded to leave your body, now, and never return. In the name of Jesus, your body is commanded to return to normal function, now, and line up with the Will and the Word of our Father in heaven, which is to be well. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, in the name of Jesus, I command healing and a miracle into the body of Noah.
