Home sweet home

Posted in Noah Updates
We were able to come home today!  Noah's chest is still pretty yucky looking, but since it is improving and since we are fully capable of doing IV antibiotics at home, there was no good reason to stay.  The only downside is that Noah is close to needing a transfusion - he gets transfused below 10, and right now he is 10.6.  As Maxwell Smart (Agent 86) would say, "missed it by THAT much."  It's not that we WANT Noah to need a transfusion, but since we know that he is nearly ready for one, it would have been convenient to do it while we were there.  At his current rate, he's about a week or week and a half away from hitting that threshold - and I don't want him to be admitted again so soon.  Ugh.

We got home at about 4 this afternoon and I've already enjoyed snuggling Mary Faith, listened to 6 children all tell me about all of the exciting things they did this week, admired the molding Jeff put down in the new playroom, made rice krispy treats with Matthew, and worked in the garden with Jeff and the younger half of the children.  I've got Jeff's favorite meal thawing on the counter (my homemade Thai peanut chicken) and am looking forward to snuggling up with him and finishing the Sherlock Holmes movie we meant to have finished Monday.   He was such a sweetie and had clean sheets and a fresh clean nightie waiting for me - I have to tell you I was pretty tempted to skip all of the above and just climb into that oh-so-inviting bed when I walked in the door!  :-)  I did sleep MUCH better last night - thank you for praying!

Noah still needs your prayers for this infection.  He doesn't feel awful but it's easy to tell at a glance that it is taking a toll on him.  We also need prayer for perfect timing on his next transfusion.  It's just SO much easier when he is already inpatient, but we don't want him getting sick, of course!  Jeff and I need prayers as adding IV antibiotics is a considerable amount of extra work and requires very precise timing and coordination of different drugs.  I'm not sure how church will work tomorrow (IF church will work tomorrow) because of the sheer number of drugs that will need to be started and stopped during church time - including IV benadryl which conks Noah right out.  We're still praying about that one.

Off to heat up peanut chicken for my sweetie.  I'm really glad I made extra and froze it last time!

Blessings,
Kate

Yea for being home!!!!

I'm thrilled that you're home again and that Noah's infection is looking better.

Continued prayers for his improvement and for his body to recover as well as possible from this infection and for your wisdom in knowing when to do the transfusion.

Jeff & Kate, we've been keeping up with your week as we move/travel. So glad to hear that you are back home and we certainly will be praying for the timing of the upcoming transfusion.

I took a "zebra" photo and have a family photo for NOah's wall....but need to find a moment to email them as I'm not seeing any mailboxes. We'll be staying in CA now for 10 days with Mike's folks...so maybe I can get that done.....

Love ya,
De'Etta

Kate and Jeff,

Sent off a small present to the family today, and just got home and we are all thrilled to hear you are home also.
A prayer of thanksgiving for such a brief stay and a prayer of intercession to make the medications easier on the entire family. I pray that Noah will continue to heal and the transfusion will occur at the optimal time for his health.

Dear Kate, Peace and joy. I love reading your comments about your dear marriage partner. I too am blessed with the perfect partner (for me anyway) One of my favorite personal prayers is: " I am blessed among women!" Sending prayers your way that HIS timing is in sync with YOUR timing for Noah. *U* Kathleen

So glad to hear you are home again with your beautiful family! Yeah, it would have been nice had they transfused Noah in the hospital, but maybe his number will come up a bit? Praying for everyone in your family, Kate. Noah, of course, but the rest of the children and for you and Jeff to get your IVs on track and keep them that way. My prayer is that someday this will all be behind you, Noah will be a big, healthy, strapping football player and you will be using this blog to write your best seller! God Bless You All!!!

Worship doesn't have to be within the confines of a church. It can happen just as well at home. Take care of Noah. God and the congregation will understand. Do what's best for your child. Perhaps take the time to have a private church session with him and teach him about Daniel if he doesn't already know the story. Daniel facing all those lions, like Noah facing all those challenges, and Daniel didn't give up faith.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh, Kate!! As usual you continue to amaze me with your 'joy' and your 'upbeatness' (if that's a word). Your faith is so beautiful and what an incredible mama you are!!

I'm so glad that you and Noah are home and able to enjoy some much-needed family time!

Continuing to pray for you all.

Kate just wanted to drop you a little note. Don't know if you will get this or not but wanted to let you know that I have been praying for you, Jeff, Noah and all the family. Praying now for rest and that Noah's, was it his blood count? will go up and not drop for quite some time so that you all can just rest for a while.
Blessings,

Hmmm, Kate, if you ever have time (ok, WHY am I writing that- I know you have limited time! Maybe if one of your older kids has time....) I would love to have that recipe for Thai Peanut Chicken- especially if it freezes well...:-).

So glad you slept better last night...so thankful you have such a considerate husband and family. So grateful for your time to garden and snuggle and appreciate and share the good AND the bad with us blog readers.

I'll be praying especially for the timing of Noah's transfusion, and for his continued healing. You are a blessing to me as you share so openly about your joys and sorrows and fears and faith. Thank you for faithfully writing.

In Christ,

Just wondering if this is a calm time and if we might be able to get a recap and snapshot of your Disney trip. We would love to hear about that as I am sure it was a special happy time for all of you. Maybe one of your children would enjoy putting something together to share with us.

I'm so thankful that everything had been improving. I have been sick myself and therefore didn't get the messaged about this hospitalization. However, every time I pray I mention your whole family :)

I was also interested in seeing you mention Thai Peanut Chicken. I've been looking for a good recipe of that and was wondering if you could share yours with us?

God's blessings on your whole family.

So glad to read you are all home together!! I cannot imagine enduring all of what your family goes through, but if pray if i ever have to i would handle it as you have done. Relying on Christ and holding tight to each other. I'm not sure if i just missed it or what but i didn't ever see any pictures of your disney trip. I know time is limited so no pressure, but eventually i would love to see how it went and pictures of Noah enjoying time with family and disney friends!!!
God Bless,
