Peace that passes understanding

Posted in Noah Updates
I honestly don't think I can tell you what a world of difference your prayers have made for Noah and I.  Noah did have to go to the treatment room for another IV last night, but it was a totally different experience.  While he got very upset and did cry and beg for help during the actual "ouchie parts," it wasn't with the same stark terror he has displayed until now.  Between attempts he was able to calm down and talk about things.  He was even calm enough to sit for the final attempt which did yield a usable IV in his foot.  He had to be held so he wouldn't jerk his foot or grab the needle away from the nurse, but before tonight there is no way he could have even been sitting as he would have  been thrashing uncontrollably.  It was SO clear that even though he was scared and hurting, there was a deep core of peace for him.

All of the nurses were amazed.  They kept saying that the whole feeling in the room was totally different and that they were more peaceful as well.  I told them that Noah had thousands of people praying for him and they immediately agreed that only prayer could have wrought the results we saw.  We need to keep those prayers coming since Noah needs IV access for several days to come.

Foot IV's don't tend to last long, but as of this minute his is still working.  He needs to be calm and somewhat still to protect that tenuous line, but God's timing provided blessings in this arena as well.  First, my mom was sick this week and couldn't come on Noah's birthday.  She came today bearing Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Mega Bloks which Noah played with for hours in bed.  Noah also got a financial gift from a blog reader which was to be used for DVD's.  I ordered Peter Pan and Babe.  Jeff brought them up yesterday and Noah has watched them over and over.  Finally, every night I take Noah downstairs in a little cart so he can throw pennies in the fountain.  Most evenings we run into the same lady (I think she has a loved one here) who has been quite charmed by Noah.  After we throw all of the pennies, Noah likes to browse the windows of the gift shop.  This sweet lady saw Noah pleading for an alligator he saw in the window and she insisted on buying it for him as a birthday gift.  It's a sweet stuffed gator with a zipper - when the zipper is opened, a lovely soft green blanket can be unfolded from within the gator.  It's very snuggly and Noah has been very content to stay in bed with his special alligator blanket!    It's really been no challenge to keep him in bed thanks to these blessings.

Noah is still running fevers.  The team has decided that as long as he doesn't look sicker, as long as his blood cultures stay negative, and as long as his labs look OK, he will get a new broviac Monday or Tuesday - fever or no fever.  We just can't keep resetting the clock every night when Noah is having such access problems.  Once we get the broviac in, we will do more investigating as to the source of the fevers.  We hope to stop the antibiotics this weekend to rule out a drug fever.

Noah is getting his nightime meds so I need to go snuggle him.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your prayers.  While last night was hard (it did take over an hour again), and while it hurt me to see Noah getting even more bruised and hurt, I felt held.  It was so clear that the everlasting arms were beneath both of us.  You were there to pray for me when I didn't even know what to say.

***** Noah started crying before I could post this blog.  The IV meds are starting to hurt, which usually means the IV won't be working much longer.  It is working OK right now, so we are getting some IV lidocaine into him for pain relief before starting his meds again.  Please pray that we don't end up with a middle of the night treatment room visit.  I would so much prefer to either go before he goes to sleep or in the morning after he is up.  Of course, mostly I would prefer not to go at all . . .

Blessings,
Kate
P.S. I've been asked about favorite animals, and I've been remiss in answering.  Noah loves all marine life - fish (esp tropical fish), dolphins, sharks, alligators, otters, hippos, etc.  He especially loves zebras of course and enjoys most other popular animals like lions, tigers, elephants, farm animals, and dogs.  He also likes chipmunks.  He is very easy to please.  :-)

So glad to hear about the peace that both you and Noah have, Kate. Poor baby has been through so much. . . and for you to sit and watch. It's harder being the watcher than it is being the one who's sick. Prayers will go tonight to keep that new foot IV functioning! Praying for the new Broviac Monday rather than Tuesday. Praying for Noah's spirits to stay as they are and for no pain and NO FEAR!!! The no fear prayers go out to you, too, Mom.

Praise God that Noah had a better day. Your post yesterday just broke my heart. I will be praying that the IV will be changed before he goes to sleep or in the morning.

I pray that he will be able to have the broviac placed on Monday or Tuesday.

Thank you for the update. What a blessing to read that God is answering prayers for Noah when it comes to the IVs. Praying the one he presently has will stay put longer than expected and that you will get a good nights sleep.

I will be away for a few days, so won't be checking in here. But I will most certainly be praying.

Wow, I am glad that you felt such peace last night...I was actually on the phone with Pip, praying in my mind, while Dad said y'all were in there.
Aww, that is so sweet of that lady to buy Noah an alligator purse/blanket. Only Noah would want a purse. ;-)

Praise the Lord! What a demonstration of the power of prayer we all received last night. You, Noah and the whole Estes family are such a blessing for our family.
Praying that wise decisions will be made by the medical staff and Noah will receive blessings at their hands. Lord, please help with this IV, if it is going to cause pain please make a replacement be as peaceful as possible. Please hold Kate tight tonight as she struggles while being away from Jeff and the other children, holding Noah as tight as we know you are holding them both. Please take away the fear and pain from Noah through all these procedures. Please place people in their path to make this time as smooth and blessed as possible. Make each reader of this blog a prayer warrior for Noah, and allow them to grow themselves. Thank you Lord for answered prayers.

I'm so glad to hear the latest trip to the treatment room went so much smoother. I will continue to storm Heaven's gates on Noah's behalf for the broviac to be placed soon, the source of the fever to be found, comfort, peace, a sense of calm, and His undying love and support. Of course, this is all for you, too, Mom, as you travel each step of this journey with him.

God Bless,

Praying for that Peace to remain upon Noah during his trips to "the room" and to be upon all the nurses, not only as they work with & on Noah, but when they are going about the rest of their lives. May their lives be touched and those who either don't know the Lord or need a closer walk will be wooed by the Holy Spirit. {{gentle hugs to you & Noah, and the rest of your dear family}}

Hey Miss Kate! Sure hope that line will hold through the night. It's after midnight and there are no tweets, so I'll pray myself off to sleep. It's the best way to go to sleep, I always seem to wake with a prayer on my lips then. :) Hope you are already snoozing!

Dear Kate,

I was so sad to read yesterday's post. My family and I prayed for you, for Noah, for the hospital staff. We all felt so bad for the horrible day Noah and everyone had. I'm sure it was heartbreaking for the staff and almost unbearable for you as well.

I am glad to hear that today was better. My family and I will continue to lift you and Noah up to our Lord. It just made me smile to think of your sweet baby and his alligator blanket!

I can't thank you enough for allowing me, a total stranger, to learn from you. Your faith, sweet spirit, and love for your children have taught me much. Everyday I look at my own family and remind myself how blessed I am; even the bad days are a blessing! Sister, you must have unspeakable treasure laid up in Heaven for all you and your beautiful family have had to endure.

We will continue to pray for peace and healing for little Noah, and for knowledge and wisdom for all concerned with Noah's care.

Sincerely,
Joyliz in AZ

Dear Kate, [and Jeff, and Noah, and all the family]

Thank you so much for taking the time to post in such detail! It's wonderful to find out how the Lord's been working, and which prayers are answered so far! It's fascinating to hear of the different atmosphere in the treatment room, and Noah's lack of abject terror!!! So very grateful to the Lord for the peace that He gave you and Noah. Will continue to pray, and of course specifically that Noah won't have to go in for a new iv tonight!

After I had briefly commented on your 'heartbroken' blog [I couldn't articulate much, I could only cry and pray], I went to see the other comments which had been posted at that time, and cried my way through those, as well! It seemed to me that all these different commenters [is that a word?], at different ages and stages of life, were united in their feelings and prayers for your family. I love it that the Lord can stir our hearts up like that. I think if we could have gathered together in one place, we would have ended up with a great big prayin'-cryin'-huggin' prayer meeting!! I guess that we really DID have that kind of prayer time, only on the internet. Except for the huggin'...which the Lord supplied!

I don't know why you-all still have to go through this, but I know He's got you nestled under His wing.

Much love and prayers,
Dara

I am so encouraged and delighted for Noah (and you) that the Lord has given him peace. I woke up early yesterday morning and spent most of an hour praying for Noah, pleading with God to help with this difficult situation. I also wondered at the time (during prayer) if it would be possible to put in the Broviac in spite of the fever.
I will of course continue to pray today, fervently. And may that IV hold.

80My heart is with you. My 5 wk.old son screamed for an hour as they tried to start an IV.It's just torture. Just know that even when we can't formulate a prayer, He knows our hearts and are needs. The same as you do for Noah, trying to comfort, to minister to his needs, soothing, loving......your Father is doing the same. His heart is touched by your suffering.

I am a firm believer in prayers. I will continue to pray for the IV to hold up. Also, that he can get his new line in place on MONDAY the earliest.

Praying for you Kate as well. I have been where you are now. It takes a lot of energy out of you, but also a tremendous amount of strength as a mom. So, I willp ray for continued strength for you.

Then for the family as a whole. These hospital stays take a toll on the WHOLE family.

Praise God for His peace that passes understanding! May His peace continue to reign in your heart and in Noah's hospital room, and especially in the treatment room. May all the doctors and nurses see it and feel it and know it themselves. Continuing to pray for you and your sweet THREE YEAR OLD boy!!

(on a personal note, please rejoice with us as after 9 long and trying months and coming as close as is possible to losing our house, my dh was offered a job yesterday! God has been and IS so good, regardless of a job or not, but we are so grateful He has chosen to show His goodness to us in THIS way right now).

SO so so relieved that Noah tolerated getting his foot IV better. We will continue praying for him. We know there's no way he can hold on to that IV until Monday or Tuesday....but maybe God can work a miracle, if it's His will. =)

But if not....

We'll be praying that Noah only needs one or two more IVs before he gets his new broviac.

I think of him and pray for him all the time. God's in charge. May God bless little Noah to be calm, to know he is loved....and may he be blessed to remember the happy stuff and forget the icky stuff....
