Our Simple Life

Nov. 4, 2009 - Thankfulness Day 4

Day 4
Today I'm thankful for my family.  My husband is out searching for a job that will take better care of us.  He's a God fearing man that leads us int he direction that we are supposed to go in order to follow God.  He helps me out with the kids on a daily basis and gives me the time I need to myself!  The kids are truly blessings from God.  That's not to say we don't have a bad day here and there.  We are human and we do have those bad days  Right now I'm listening to the boys play and the girls are singing.  It's great when they get along like they should!!!

Nov. 3, 2009 - Thankfulness Day 3

Day 3
Today is my mom's birthday!!!  But she wasn't mom until 3 years ago when she married my dad.  I'm very thankful that she has come into our lives.  Mom is one of the sweetest nicest people you will ever meet.  It seems like she has been in our lives for much longer than these 3 years!  And that's not in a bad way either!!  When she became part of our family, I also got 2 more sisters and more nieces!!  My family really grew with her joining and I'm so thankful that she did!  I love you Mom!!!!

Nov. 1, 2009 - Thankfulness Day 1

I am going to attempt to write about 30 things I'm thankful for this month!  This seems to be a popular item as I have seen it all over the net.  But this is November and Thanksgiving so I'm willing to try!!!

Day 1
One thing I'm thankful for today is Jesus Christ dying on the cross for us!  My 6 year old daughter was baptized this evening!  I'm so thankful that He came to die so we didn't have to.  Now my daughter will be joining me in heaven one day!!

Oct. 31, 2009 - What a letter!!!!!

WOW!  WHAT A LETTER!

Letter from one 'Angry Woman'

I don't know who wrote it but they should have signed it. Some powerful words. This woman should run for president.

Written by a housewife from New Jersey and sounds like it! This is one ticked off lady.

'Are we fighting a war on terror or aren't we? Was it or was it not started by Islamic people who brought it to our shores on September 11, 2001?

Were people from all over the world, mostly Americans, not brutally murdered that day, in downtown Manhattan , across the Potomac from our nation's capitol and in a field in Pennsylvania ?

Did nearly three thousand men, women and children die a horrible, burning or crushing death that day, or didn't they?

And I'm supposed to care that a copy of the Koran was 'desecrated' when an overworked American soldier kicked it or got it wet?....Well, I don't. I don't care at all.

I'll start caring when Osama bin Laden turns himself in and repents for incinerating all those innocent people on 9/11.

I'll care about the Koran when the fanatics in the Middle East start caring about the Holy Bible, the mere possession of which is a crime in Saudi Arabia

I'll care when these thugs tell the world they are sorry for chopping off Nick Berg's head while Berg screamed through his gurgling slashed throat.

I'll care when the cowardly so-called 'insurgents' in Iraq come out and fight like men instead of disrespecting their own religion by hiding in mosques.

I'll care when the mindless zealots who blow themselves up in search of nirvana care about the innocent children within range of their suicide ...

I'll care when the American media stops pretending that their First Amendment liberties are somehow derived from international law instead of the United States Constitution's Bill of Rights.

In the meantime, when I hear a story about a brave marine roughing up an Iraqi terrorist to obtain information, know this: I don't care.

When I see a fuzzy photo of a pile of naked Iraqi prisoners who have been humiliated in what amounts to a college-hazing incident, rest assured: I don't care..

When I see a wounded terrorist get shot in the head when he is told not to move because he might be booby-trapped, you can take it to the bank: I don't care.

When I hear that a prisoner, who was issued a Koran and a prayer mat, and fed 'special' food that is paid for by my tax dollars, is complaining that his holy book is being 'mishandled,' you can absolutely believe in your heart of hearts: I don't care.

And oh, by the way, I've noticed that sometimes it's spelled 'Koran' and other times 'Quran.' Well, Jimmy Crack Corn and-you guessed it-I don't care!!

If you agree with this view point, pass this on to all your E-mail friends. Sooner or later, it'll get to the people responsible for this ridiculous behavior!

If you don't agree, then by all means hit the delete button. Should you choose the latter, then please don't complain when more atrocities committed by radical Muslims happen here in our great Country! And may I add:

'Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the Marines don't have that problem' -- Ronald Reagan

I have another quote that I would like to add AND.......I hope you forward all this.

'If we ever forget that we're One Nation Under God, then we will be a nation gone under' Also by.. Ronald Reagan

< div>

One last thought for the day:

In case we find ourselves starting to believe all the Anti-American sentiment and negativity, we should remember England 's Prime Minister Tony Blair's words during a recent interview. When asked by one of his Parliament members why he believes so much in America , he said: 'A simple way to take measure of a country is to look at how many want in.. And how many want out.'

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you:
1 Jesus Christ
2 The American G. I.

One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

YOU MIGHT WANT TO PASS THIS ON,

AS MANY SEEM TO FORGET BOTH OF THEM.

Oct. 30, 2009 - Happy Anniversary to me!

Yep! Thirteen years ago today, my husband and I got married.  In that time, we have learned alot about  each other and God and life.  We have weathered several moves, the birth of 4 children, the death of very close loved ones, joblessness, and many other such things.  We have also enjoyed growing together, the birth of 4 children, weddings, and the birth of many nieces and nephews.  If I had to do it all over again, I would in a heartbeat, even knowing the bad times that were to come.  Without him, I wouldn't be who I am today.  He is my rock and a complete joy for me.  My husband works hard to provide all that we need and want.  For our anniversary, we are staying home and spending time together.  We aren't going to go out and spend money on things we don't need or want.  Just a simple down home time together with our kids.  I love you honey!!!!

Oct. 29, 2009 - Decluttering

Over the past couple of weeks we have been decluttering things here.  I have tossed a huge amount of stuff that I never even realized that we had!  So far nobody realizes what is gone, imagine that!   Here are some quick tips on getting rid of stuff.

  • If you don't like it anymore just toss it!!  It sounds simple but it's much harder to do than it seems!  Especially when it comes to that stuff that you deceased family has given to you.  But really, if you don't like it, don't keep it.  My mother passed away 4 years ago.  It has taken me this long to get rid of things of hers that I just didn't like that much but I "had" to hold on to it.  It makes much more sense to get rid ot it to someone who will love it like she did!  However, if you are uncomfortable doing that just yet, then by all means just put it up in storage somewhere until you decide for sure what you want to do with it.
  • If you can't fit it anymore, and haven't been able to since before your 6 year old was born, then get rid of it!!!  After all, it will probably be long out of style before you can fit it again!!
  • On a similar note, if you have 15 pairs of shoes, you should probably cull some of those out!  Most people do not need that many shoes!!  Most all outfits can be matched with just 4 pairs of shoes.  Keep a pair of tennis shoes, sandals, black dress shoes and white dress shoes.  If you work out of the house you may need an additional pair of black and white shoes just to switch them around.  Those us who are SAHM probably only wear our dress shoes for 3-4 hours a week and do not need to switch them around as often.
  • The same goes with our regular clothing.  Most us us have far to many clothes!!  Keep some basics on hand and get rid of the rest!  We really don't need 5 black skirts when only 1 or 2 will suffice.  The same with our dresses and other clothing.
  • If you are like me, my problem area is the kids.  I love to get them clothes, books, and other fun stuff.  But do they really need it?  Mine definately do not!!  Use these same "rules" for cleaning their stuff out as well.
  • If you have books that you haven't read in a while, get rid of them!  Or those you have read many times to make room for those you haven't!!
  • Dishes are another area where I personally have way to much!!  Do you really need 8 skillets?  Yes, I really had that many shoved underneath!!  keep your 2 favorites and toss the others!!!!
  • All those collections you have!   How long has it been since you really looked at them?  Do you enjoy them anymore or is it to much work to keep up with them?  How long has it been since you added to it?  If you don't enjoy them, get rid of some!!!

It took more than a day or two to get to where you are, don't expect it to fix itself in that amount of time.  This is just material possesions that I wrote about today, but it could be applied to all things in life.  Clean out the bad and keep the good!

Oct. 28, 2009 - My first blog post in quite some time!

What I want to do is create a simple life for my family and I. Or at least as simple as we can get while homeschooling 4 children! We are decluttering things around here to make it easier to keep cleaned up. While we have gotten rid of a bunch of stuff, there's still room to get rid of more!! I want to focas more on Christ and what He's doing for us rather than keeping the house up. I hope to try new recipies and post them here, have ideas on keeping things picked up and organized, life in general and of course things the kids do! I want all of you readers to feel free to comment on things and offer you're own ideas as well. One note on this before I go on though. There will be times that I post things that are quite contriversial. I do not mind you disagreeing with me at all. After all, we are all free to have our own opinions. However, when you get hateful or disrespectful in them, I will delete them. All I ask is that you do not put down the good ol USA or God. Those are the biggies here!! :)

Some of the things that we enjoy doing include church activities, playing outside, and doing crafts. I myself am addicted to sewing! I love to sew!! Another addiction for all of us is picture taking!! But at this point, my camera is broken and I cannot download them from it to the computer, so pictures will be a bit time away for now! I love to read and learn new things along with the kids. So books are quite popular here!! I think that about sums things up for me here!
