Dictation

I thought I would do a series of posts on some aspects of the boys' lessons that are working well.

One thing we have being doing for a while is that T1 now does his dictations on the computer. He has been doing typing lessons for what feels like forever and this gives him a chance to practise some of those skills (with me supervising fingers every now and then).

He can go faster, correct more easily and have the bonus of the spellcheck. This may be cheating a bit but hey, adults get to use it all the time!  He's good at picking the right word from the list so I figure being able to recognize the right word should count for something. Plus it's something a bit novel and different and that helps, too.

Nov. 24, 2005 - Dictation

Congrats! Awesome work, keep it up. Your method is the same as the one done when new typist learn to do dictation. I commend you on doing this w/your son to not only improve his spelling, attention and listening skills, but his typing skills as well. I used dictation to help build speed and finger placement with my dc and computer students in the past ~ you know, I dictate the home row keys a few times. It worked better than one would image especially for the auditory learners.

Well done, Mom. Thanks for sharing.

Dec. 5, 2005 - typing narrations

Posted by belindaletchford
Hi Pam - I have done this too but with their narrations. They have always had to be at a competant place in their typing lessons first. At first I was a bit worried that it would hinder their spelling etc but it has actually helped more than anything else we have tried. The best thing is that they actually get their words out and writing isn't a chore.
