Bento Lunch Boxes

Remember wishing for a Holly Hobbie Lunch Box?  Or were you ever embarassed to have to carry an EXTRA LARGE brown bag to school?  If your kids are getting tired of eating the same ol' PBJ's . . . maybe you can get them making Bentos for the entire Home School!

DD5 and I just spent an hour drooling over these adorable box lunches.  From what I understand, Bento is the style of lunch box used by Asian children.  Even more amazing is this incredible mother craft punches smiling faces out of nori to place on adorable animal shaped foods!  Then she has time to photograph and post it to her blog before her dd5 tosses her backpack around.  I'm sure her dd5 makes all her classmates and even her teachers want to trade lunch with her!

I thought I was pretty amazing using a cookie cutter flower to cut out flower shaped sandwiches for my dd5's birthday tea party.  Perhaps dd5 would eat her veggies if I cut them into a Hello Kitty shape and put a darling face on it!

DD5 wishes I was a Bento Mommy!  I'll have to see what I can design.  I'd have to post it to my blog . . . or it would hardly seem worth the trouble not having school kids fighting over the cutest lunch!

Sep. 27, 2006 - Best Bentos

It brings back warm feelings of the little love notes my Mom wrote on my napkins ... and the simple artwork my best friend's mom drew on her lunch bag.

I think this is why we keep making those lunches and fill those little tummies and hearts with LOVE!

Awwww- these are indeed the cutest! Hmmm...I'll have to clean the playdough off of some of our cookie/sandwich/playdough cutters & make some cutie sandwiches! Thanks, Krissy, for those lovely comments on my blog. The bloggin CA Continos often comment how much our DDs resemble one another. It's always a compliment & I love being "part of the family". :o) So glad your Cafe sign is attracting favorable attention. Can't wait to see it myself. Getting ready to order a sign for my sister's kitchen & for a Gracefull bedroom. :o) Sounds like your Chicago adventures were fun-filled! Did you enjoy some tea at the AG store? My neice LOVED it! We'll see how long we can hold out before DD is interested. I'm sure she'll catch the bug from one of her cousins. :o) Love & hugs~

Rachael Ray had a bento lunchbox and recipes in her magazine this month. You can see it here:

This is also a cool site that has ideas for what to put in them.

Have a great day!
