I am the wife of a soldier, and the mother of two little ones (ages 3 and 1). I am passionate about my God, my family, and my country. I chose the title for my blog because I started it around the time that we found out my husband would be going to Iraq. I am so proud of his service to our country. Also I am constantly striveing to become more like christ. Hence the title "passionate patriot conforming to 'His' image.

Today I am going to tell you about my precious moments figurines. First though I must tell you some background information. My husband and I didn't have a lot of money when we got married, so instead of going to Cancoon, or the Bahamas like others we know, we stayed at a bed and breakfast in Joplin, MO. This is a town right next to the very tiny town of Carthage, MO. Home of the Precious Moments Chapel. It is actually very nice, and we had a lovely time.
While we were at the precious moments chapel, we purchased a figurine, and decided that every year for our anniversary we would purchase another figurine. It didn't quite work out that way.
Here is the one we purchased at the Precious Moments Chapel.
The next year on, our first anniversary, my husband had A.T. (his two week yearly drill for the Army National Guard) at Camp Ripley, Minnesota. We didn't get to spend our first anniversary together, but my dh picked up a Precious Moments figurine from the P.X. (Post Exchange-kind of like a K-mart on an Army base.)
Here is a picture of that figurine.
The next year, my dh didn't have A.T. because his whole Battalion had been called to active duty in support of Operation Iraqi freedom. However they never made it to Iraq at that time. The went to Fort Sill for two months of training then they were sent home. Well, as soon as he came home, we became pregnant with our first child. So, instead of celebrating our second anniversary, we went to stay with my in-laws for the weekend so that we could tell them the news in person.
The next year my husband had A.T. on our anniversary again. While he was at Camp Ripley, Minnesota, he picked up another precious moments figurine.
Here it is.
My husband has continued to have A.T. on our anniversary every year since. We will celebrate our seventh anniversary apart this next summer as well, because he will be in Iraq. However, The figurine above is the last one that he purchased. maybe this next summer I will pick up another one to start the tradition back up and mail him the picture. So far I think the only tradition we have stuck to is not being together on our anniversary.
It must be hard to be apart on your anniversary, but you have a neat tradition with the figurines. The stories make them special. I like the little army guy!
I LOVE your show and tell items! So cute!!! I have the precious moments Noahs Ark. Love it! I also have a show and tell post... come on by and say hello: http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/socalval/374222/
Aww that says so much about your precious husband! You're a blessed gal. My mother loves PM figurines and visited the chappel a few years ago while going to Branson MO.
I've never seen the soldier figurine or the flag figurine before. They truly are precious! I'm sorry you're apart again for your anniversary. My DH and I were supposed to go away for the weekend for our anniversary on Sat. but life got in the way.
Aug. 17, 2007 - Change your anniversary date...LOL

I am sorry about your anniversary. That is rough. It is not easy being married to a hubby that is gone a lot and especially when you have concern for his life.
My hubby can NEVER remember our anniversay date. For some reason he has it stuck in his head we were married on a different day of that month. So you know what? I agree...he is right. It is easier to change it to his date so he remembers it...hee hee! At first he thought that would hurt me, but it really doesn't. In fact, it is one of his endearing quirks.
May the Lord bless you and keep you,

My Daughter had the first one you bought as the wedding topper of her cake. What a lovely way to record your marriage history. Mine gets one more year tomorrow (:.
Thanks for sharing. And Thanks for serving!
because of Jesus, Bobbie
I loved this post! I love the figurines as well - wow. Really. The whole thing. You write well. Thanks to your husband for serving, and to you for the sacrifices that go with.
Thanks for your comment on the front porch on my first grade story. Unreal, isn't it? What children have to go through in school ... it so isn't right. I'm so sorry for all you had to go through. God is so good, and His story is one of redemption.
I listed you as one of my friends, I definitely want to be checking back here.
