These are a few of my Favorite Things...

In the Meltdown??? I hope!

For the last 4 Tuesdays we have been on a cycle of snow and ice storms...more snow, but then I can't say that because our house has been surrounded in ice several times this year.  Last week for instance we had an ice storm.  I kept Brittany home from dance that night, canceled my early appointment for the next day and we basically just stayed in.  The next day I realized that I was out of coffee...so we gathered ourselves and decided that we would head out for a steaming cup.  Unable to even walk down the driveway...as we were slipping and sliding my neighbor offered us some salt ( we were out and couldn't find it anywhere)...I took advantage of the generous offer and sat my purse on the driveway as she handed it to me...there went my purse on it's own little journey picking up speed as it went...LOL.  Behind me I could hear Brittany saying in slightly more than a whisper.  "Mom, mom...mom" then my neighbor saw it and started laughing...luckily...the night before we wouldn't get up the driveway so we just parked at the bottom...my car tire stopped my purse.  I am laughing still at this point.  We make it to the car and I decided that I would make another trip to by salt...after we had our coffee of course.  Well...we backed into the street and my car got stuck on the ice...my poor neighbor...she opened up her window again...I managed to back it to the curb but my car wasn't in a very good place on an icy road and I could see another car sliding into me so she offered and I accepted again for her to push me out.  We had some bumper marks (but what is a girl supposed to do?) so Brittany and I decided to run the car through the car wash...we were out after all...so we did...followed the directions to drive through the dryers and realized that the doors weren't opening...we sat there for a few minutes and the dryers went off...we looked at each other and just sat there...in my head I was thinking...we were going to have to wait for someone else to pull there car in to wash it and what a surprise they would have seeing us sitting there.  We saw a button but both decided it probably wasn't a good idea to be standing next to a high powered dryer and push a button that we didn't know what it was for...finally being fed up with my day I braved the situation and went out and lifted the door just a bit...it lifted pretty easy and nothing happened so Brittany got out, held the door open and I drove the van through.  Both of us were shaking and ready to wake up on the other side of the bed at this point.

2 days later we were hit by the biggest snow storm that we have had in years...my husband was in Toronto and that is where he stayed until Monday afternoon.  Brittany and I are finally getting the hang of keeping the driveway clear...we waited for about 4 inches...went out and shoveled and kept it going...so we never really had a big shovel...thank the Lord.  Our other neighbor came over twice and used his blower which was very thoughtful of him.  I am afraid to hope that this was the last of our bad weather but then again  I am feeling hopeful as I noticed it didn't start getting dark until 8 last night...that is progress anyway.  I just know Spring has to be around the corner somewhere.

I am happy to say that my sweetheart made it home safe and sound and is home with us this week after being on the road for 8 weeks straight...it has been a long haul and some weekends we haven't even had 48 hours together but we are taking advantage this week of family time and I happily handed over the keys (which is my way of putting the responsibilities back in his lap) WHEW...I have never been so glad.

Below is a couple of pics of our snowy weekend...the most snow Brittany has ever seen at one time anyway...enjoy!

Not that you can tell...but the bottom picture is of our front steps, a sidewalk and then a street...there was no perception at all...everything was white and in some places thigh high...boy am I glad that is over.
