Business updateSeveral have asked about orders from Josephine. She is ready to take orders and get them shipped. Get them now while supplies last, as they say. LOL.. Oh and pass the link on to others too.. Thanks!! 11 November 09I don't know how many families here have Veterans or those serving for the USA. I just wanted to say "Thank you" on our family's behalf. Have a great day.Next Read Aloud ~ Amos Fortune
We finished up Sounder today. The kids and I enjoyed this read. We especially loved all the references to Bible stories and the lovely hymns 'the mother' would sing. One thing the kids brought to my attention is the characters have no names, they found that a little odd. The main character is referred to only as 'the boy.' But a good read! Here's a picture narrative from Sounder
Our next read will be Amos Fortune, the true story of a man that was kidnapped into slavery at the age of 15, in the year, 1725. We will use this book as one of our Living History Books and compare Amos' life to that of Ben Franklin. They were born only 4 years apart, but of course had very different lives.
A New Business Owned by a Special LadyMy friend Josephine has started a business and now has a website!!. The website is still in the production phase but it looks wonderful!. Josephine has a sweet spirit and is a wonderful testimony of how God can work in a tragic situation. God is working in her life so much right now and I pray only the best for her. Please check out her new website and the products she is offering---click HERE. Whoah! Been awhile!Well, someone just asked what was new in my neck of the woods-hardly have had a chance to notice cuz I have been awfully busy. Betwixt the TOS reviewing, HSing, life, illnesses, working on a couple side projects and such-well, it has been a very crazy fall.I have been nominated for 2 different categories for the HS Blog Awards, and I am very tickled to have made it to the final round-you can go to The Homeschool Post to vote for the blogs of your choice...there are quite a few awesome ones listed there. Also-I have several, several new reviews up on my 1 of 100 (Plus 25) TOS Crew Reviews to read up on some really neat products. I have been devoting tons of time to my workbox blog: What's in the Box? and adding lapbooks and art the kids have been working on over on my Scrapbooks and Lapbooks by Sheri too. Always trying to get something up on my Homeschooling on a Wing and a Prayer -my main blog-so if you are looking for me-those are the places you'll find me. Sure hope all of you have had a lovely fall and are gearing up for the holiday season without panic (like me)-LOL. Blessings and stop by anytime! Poetry DayHere's our poem of the week...focusing on trees The Oak is called the King of trees the Aspen quivers in the breeze. The Poplar grows up straight and tall, the Peach tree spreads along the wall. The Sycamore gives pleasant shade, the Willow droops in watery glade. The Fir gives useful timber, the Beech amid the forest lives. ~ Sara Coleridge
Tightwad Tuesday ~ Save In Piggybacking. Save In Piggybacking In all the changes that I have made this year I have been learning the importance of "piggybacking". Piggybacking is when you butt one thing after the other and save because it is already heated up. For example... to dry one load of laundry after the other and save because the dryer is already heated up. Another way I have piggybacked my savings is when I roast my coffee beans. I roast what I need for that week...one batch after the other. A third way that I can think of right off the bat is piggybacking while baking or cooking with the oven. Get the biggest bang for your buck by baking several things together and right after the other. In the winter time it is also a nice way to raise the temperature a little in your house. I guess you can say it is like multi-tasking your energy use and save. Now to join in the fun of Tightwad Tuesday.... . Link your TWT post click on MckLinky and give exact the URL of your post. (each Tuesday that you join in on the fun) . example of a URL ... http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/Canadagirl/693425/ . Now go ahead link and read and comment on all these other's wonderful TWT's. . Lets save our pennies, nickles, dimes, and dollars together ! . "There are only a few big ways to save money but there are many small ways ....that all adds up."
Unplugged Project ~ PURPLEI decided to head back over and revisit Unplugged Mom @ Unplug Your Kids and see what her theme was for the week -- we really enjoyed these when we were doing them regularly, so hopefully we can continue on. This week the theme is: purple We tried our hand at homemade candles....they were supper easy and super fun -- a little messy! We shared the adventure with friends, also fellow homeschool blogger.......I think they enjoyed it as well.
You will need glass wax, wicks, color & scent, oh yes, your glass jars too! Here we are cutting the glass wax so it can be put into a pot Taylor is trying her hand at cutting the wax & Jayda is looking on We took pencils and wrapped the tall wicks around it to hold the wick in place The color above and the scent below, after chopping ( kids chose Ocean Mist )
The wax, the color and scent are melting in the pot. We needed to wait til the temp went down to at least 175 before pouring it into the jars.
Aren't they lovely?! They came out so well, we were all very pleased. And purple popcorn balls for the littles.......
Let it only be a cold, please!!So far no fever, just sore throat and congestion. Sigh..... I feel 'it' coming on too.. ugh....Now I have a legit reason to shop our new CVS that opened yesterday not 4 blocks from us
