Prop 8 Myths

6:26 PM, Nov. 3, 2008 .. 1 comments .. Link

Myths and Facts about Proposition 8

MYTH: Proposition 8 enshrines discrimination in our Constitution.

FACT:

Proposition 8 does not take away any rights from gay and lesbian domestic partners. Gays and lesbians in California can already enjoy all the legal rights and benefits of marriage. The California Family Code says, "domestic partners shall have all the rights, protections and benefits" of married spouses. There are NO exceptions to this. Proposition 8 will not change that.

Proposition 8 does not discriminate against gays; it simply restores the meaning of marriage and protects it as an essential institution that has benefited mankind since the beginning of time. Every culture in the world understands that marriage is between a man and a woman. Californians from all walks of life and ethnic backgrounds, whether religious or not, agree that marriage is between a man and a woman.

MYTH: Allowing gay couples to legally marry does not affect anyone else.

FACT:

We should not accept a court decision that results in public school teachers teaching our kids that gay marriage is acceptable. That is an issue for parents to discuss with their children according to their own values and beliefs. It should not be forced on us against our will.

The narrow decision of the State Supreme Court effectively renders all civil marriage meaningless and will result in tremendous confusion for children. The state Education Code (§51890) requires that teachers instruct children as young as kindergartners about marriage. If the gay marriage ruling becomes permanent, teachers will have little choice but to teach young children there is no difference between gay marriage and traditional marriage.

MYTH: This proposition is the work of right wing radicals and extremists to attack the rights of gays.

FACT:

If gay marriage advocates want to change the definition of marriage, they should have to put a ballot measure before the voters to do so. This has never happened. Instead, they have gone behind the backs of voters and convinced four activist judges in San Francisco to redefine marriage for all of society. That is the wrong approach.

Proposition 8 does not interfere with gays living the lifestyle they choose. However, while gays can live as they want, they should not have the right to redefine marriage for the rest of society.

Proposition 8 is supported by a broad range of organizations and individuals, including faith leaders representing virtually every faith in California – and those who subscribe to no faith at all. People from every walk of life believe that marriage is between a man and a woman. Over 1.1 million Californians signed the petitions to put Proposition 8 on the ballot.

MYTH: The majority of the State Supreme Court said that gay marriage is a "right", so the rest of us should leave the issue alone.

FACT:

Ultimately, the legal meaning of marriage is up to the people to decide. Four judges on the Supreme Court declared that gay marriage is a "right" because the traditional definition of marriage did not expressly appear in the state Constitution itself. Proposition 8 overturns the court’s flawed decision by amending the state Constitution to include the common-sense definition of marriage that was previously approved by over 61% of the voters (Proposition 22, enacted in 2000, "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California").

What we have been up to!

5:14 PM, Nov. 3, 2008 .. 0 comments .. Link

Wow, how I have missed blogging!!!! Life has been so full lately with school that Blogging time has been cut out. I am planning on fitting it back in to the schedule here real soon.

Here is what we have been up to, Chacho is in 9th Grade, my first year experiencing High School teaching....This is a very new adventure! We are taking Lifepacs Bible and Language, Abeka Science and History, Saxon Math and we plan on adding Rosetta Stone Spanish here soon!

Deanna is 7th Grade, taking Lifepacs Bible, and Saxon Math.

Mariah is 5th Grade, taking Lifepacs Bible and Switched-on-Schoolhouse Math.

Together Mariah and Deanna are doing unit studies for our Language and History and Science.

We just Finished up reading the American Girls Felicity. Along with that we did a complete study on the American Revolutionary War! I loved to see how our Country Became and was founded on God!!!! It really but into perspect how big our Elections are this month!!!

Jasiel and Katalina are K4 and K5 and we are doing Abeka Phonics and Math along with Five in a Row and lapbooking each book we read in this.  so far we have made a lapbook for The Story About Ping, Lentil, Madeline, and we are currently working on A Pair of Red Clogs. They are loving it!

So as you can see we have been busy this year and I am looking forward to the holiday breaks coming up! I will post some pics of our lapbooks as soon as I can.

Our computers crashed a while ago and Praise God they were fixed with all the information restored, thanks to a great friend from church, but I have so many pics on it that I have to save to discs before I add more, which is my next major chore to accomplish.

But Yes, We are still here and Praying for our Nation as we go into this Election Tomorrow!!!

May God's Will Be Done!!!!

How is your new School year going?

12:10 PM, Sep. 20, 2008 .. 4 comments .. Link

So I have grades 9, 7, 5 and K4 and K5 this year!!!!!

I was not worried about this new year, in fact I was so very excited. Adding the K4-K5 Curriculum wasn't to big of a change, or so I though, as I was already doing Preschool work with the girls.

In my seven years of homeschooling I have never felt so beyond overwhelmed and as if I was unable to continue on.

How do all you Momma's with big families do this?

I love homeschooling, I would never trade it for anything in the world, I know there is nothing better for my children! But WOW it sure is a job. I feel like if I give it (homeschooling) my all everything else falls apart (The house, meals, my HUSBAND). Then I can try really hard to keep up on household things but I feel like have neglected the childrens schooling. I am so overwhelmed with trying to get it ALL done!

So if you think of me I would appreciate your prayers. Sorry I haven't been around on here much, but now I think you can see and understand why! I miss all my wonderful blogging friends and I hope and pray you are all doing well!!!

The Schoolhouse Planner

12:23 PM, Sep. 5, 2008 .. 0 comments .. Link

Now that I have told you about the Old Schoolhouse Magazine going digital, let me tell you about another exciting product out there that is available from The Old Schoolhouse Magazine.

The Schoolhouse Planner!

Now Ok, I know what you are all thinking....Another Planner.... Well Please hear me out. I know we all have at least 3 planners that we have ordered and tried. I probably have 6 or 7. Each may be a little different but for the most part they are the same. Every Review you hear will tell you how their's is THE ONE to meet all your needs, so in our desperate attempt to pull it all together and get organized THIS YEAR we purchase it and hope and pray it really is all that they say it is. We print out some forms, we put together our binder and we start school all ready for a very Organized and productive year, Right? Sound familiar. Oh am I so guilty of this. Then about a month or two down the road I start to think of all the things I need that are not there, and agian start search for something that has that One More Item I need to make my planner complete. Now I am not saying these planners are not good, I love all my planners, that is why I have so many of them, I use a little from each to make it work for me.

My Point.... The Schoolhouse Planner... It has it all!!!

Not only is it an instant download, I hate waiting a couple of weeks to get my disc so I can start planning, I am not very good at planning to plan. So when I get that urge that it is time to get organzied I just click the website, purchase it, and check my emails. It really is that simple.

Then, what makes this so unique? It is not just a planner. I have my calander, I have all my report and planner forms, everything I could think I need for Homeschooling, but it doesn't stop there.

We even have everything to organize our home. From Chores for the kids to my own household schedule. There is even forms for important numbers, address books and website lists.

Isn't this great, but wait there is still even more. After our long day of school, trying to get the house in order and now hubby is on his way home from work, we frantically (If you are like me) try to figure out what can I cook for dinner????? The Schoolhouse planner has a solution. Each month has a section that even includes recipes. Things from Cheeseburger Pie to Tropical Chicken Dinner. Problem solved!

Now my two favorite features were the Forms each month that covered topics such as Presidents, State Capitals, Wieghts and Measures, Important Historical Dates and so much more. No more running to the internet or trying to find that book with the answers it will all be right there in your planner! The other was all the resource links each month. Tons of website are included in this planner to help us on our Homeschool Journey that we could print out or, even better click the link and go directly to it! I am always searching for new websites to use in school so I found this to be so convienent and very exciting!

I could keep on going but I am going to encourage you to check it out yourself! This is a very helpful and useful New Planner that I think you will be very pleased with!

The Schoolhouse Planner

Please come back and let me know if you liked it as much as me! I would love to hear from you!

The Old Schoolhouse Digital Magazine

9:30 AM, Sep. 5, 2008 .. 1 comments .. Link

How many of you have heard of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine? How many of you are subcribers? Isn't there just so many good article and tips to help us along in our Homeschool journey? There is no way we could ever throw any of them away and maybe we have thought about giving them away... But Maybe we just might want to come back to that article again because it was so refreshing and helpful. Oh and all those recommended websites!! We can not get rid of those. We totally intend to get to all those links ONE DAY!!!!

Have you heard the NEWS?

The Old Schoolhouse Magazine has gone digital. That is right DIGITAL! Now I can order my subscription online. It comes straight to my inbox every month. It is always available on my computer, I can have them all and not even have them taking up space!!!!!!! There are just so many advantages to this. You can search for specific topics and let the computer find it for you, no more thumbing back and forth trying to find that article, you can save them all for future review right on your computer, my personal favorite because my husband is always asking when I am going to go through and remove some magazine...What I am not getting rid of any of my magazines...Now I can have them all and no one will even notice, Until I show them how cool of course! Another feauture I loved was all the links. How many of you go through magazines and fold the corner to remind you to go and check out a site? There are so many sites I want to visit and when I am on the computer I forget to go grab the magazine, or when I am reading the magazine I am not going to the computer..So...Now as I am reading online and I see a great link I want to check out.. All I do is click it and I am there!!!! Now I really might find all that stuff I was looking for! If you haven't already I want to encourage you to go and check it out. The Old Schoolhouse Digital Magazine

I am sure you will not be disappointed. And please let me no what you think I would love to hear from you!

Reaching Out

2:16 PM, Jun. 6, 2008 .. 1 comments .. Link

I was just informed that my next door neighbor passed away last night!

He had been sick for awhile, but after much prayer he was doing amazingly better. In fact he went on vacation to visit family since he was doing so well. But the first day out he ended up in the hospital, 2 weeks ago, and last night passed away.

Now I sit here and wonder did I do enough. They were not believers. We tried to reach out as much as we could. But this is such a wake up call, we never know how much time anyone has. I can only hope and pray that in his last hours he came to know Jesus as his personal Lord and Saviour. I had an oppurtunity to reach out to a lost soul and now that chance is gone. I can not explain the way I feel in side. I am so burdened for his wife. They are the sweetest couple. We are going to miss him so much.

God tells us in the book of Romans that there are four things a person needs to know to be saved.

1. All have sinned, and are separated from God.

Romans 3:10, "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one."
Romans 3:23, "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."
Isaiah 64:6, "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags."

2. The price for sin is death and hell.

Romans 6:23a, "For the wages of sin is death."
Revelation 21:8, "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and *****mongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death."

3. The good news is: Jesus paid the sin debt for all who will place the trust in Him as Savior.

Romans 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
Romans 5:8-10, "But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life."

4. Call upon the name of the Lord to be saved.

Are you willing to make Jesus the Lord of your life, and do you desire to live for Him?

Romans 10:9-10, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
Romans 10:13, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
Ephesians 2:8-9, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."

I was just thinking about ordering an E-Book: Say What You Mean, Defending the Faith the other day.

The Lord tells us in His Word...

"...be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.” - from 1Peter 3:15

you can download a sample of this at  The Old School House Store

I think I need to get this to help the family be more BOLD in our witnessing. My Husband has no problem and I know he planted many seeds into the lives of our neighbors. I want the children and I to be able to be Bold as well.

When you think of them please pray, Judy is her name and Rob was her husband that passed away. It is my prayer that we will be able to truly reach out and show her God's Love through all this!

Moving?

11:16 PM, May. 31, 2008 .. 1 comments .. Link
We just put an offer in on a house in La Cresta! This is an area we have always loved. With the market being so low right now we decided to take a look around at some of the bank owned homes. We stumbled across this beautiful house on 5 acres right in the area we have always wanted. So if you think of us please pray that if it is God's will that we move into this home He would make it all go smoothly and the bank would accept our offer, there are other offers on this house, if not that He would close the doors and show us what He has for us! Thank you for your prayers!
Here is the home:

I will keep you posted we should know something within a week!

Update June 6th

We have been playing a game with the bank, They keep countering our offers. We have gone up more than we have wanted and they still countered. We are putting in one last final offer. Please pray for favor that the bank will accept it. If not we are going to walk away from it for the time being. The children were so excited I hate to have them dissapointed. If this is not the house that God has for us Please Pray He will show us the house He does Have for us, Thank you! I will Post again Monday Unless I hear something sooner!
