Football and Wildlife Rehabilitation and Amazing Discoveries

I had a busy day!

First my mom and I and the littles went to Santa Ynez to watch Coleman play his first football game of the season.  The score was 26 - 0 We lost.  It was fairly hot.  Everyone was complaining.  We stayed only until just after half time, because we had to drive an hour to get to the AG Library in order to get to see the Pacific Wildlife Rehabilitation demonstration at 2:00.  Coleman stayed of course to finish the game and Dad is a coach.

They had a kestrel, a merlin, a great horned owl, an opposum and a red tailed hawk.   www.pacificwildlifecare.org

Yesterday and today, I went with my dad to the Amazing Discoveries presentation by It IsWritten at the Clark Center in AG.  They talked about a lot of different prophecies last night and tonight they talked about Nebuchadnezzar's dream and the fall of Babylon.  I liked it and Coleman went the first night but not tonight as his friend had his birthday party.

Oh, I forgot, I also worked out Sunny when I got home from the Library...  so I'm tired.  Good night.

Oh sunny!

Posted in horses

Yesterday I went out to do stuff with Sunny and I brought a measuring tape to see how many hands high she is.  A hand is 4 inches. She is 14.1 hands.  She was really good when I was measuring her, but then when I was trying to roll it back in, it cut me and snapped back in and scared her.

But being spooked by the measuring tape made her very tense and when I asked her to go over some logs in the arena she was too tense, and she sort of spooked and didn't want to go over them even though she had gone over logs before.  Thankfully I wasn't on her or I might have fallen off when she was dancing around the logs.

So I asked her and asked her, and asked her... and asked her... and finally I put her away and gave her some food.  When I came in my mom said "go look at your FACE!"  It was covered with dirt.

Sunny is bored ...

Posted in horses

I have been thinking all morning how Sunny had  a pretty exciting life before I got her, and now that I have her, all I do is make her plod around the arena and she gets really bored (and stubborn) doing that.

I don't do trail riding or gymkhanas  (though I would like to sometime).  I do not have a riding pal and our horse trailer is in pretty bad shape so I don't really have the means to do much else.

She seems fine when she is in her pen eating or hanging out with the goats. She is happier standing and doing nothing it seems than doing stuff with me. So what can I do to make her less bored?

Does anyone have any ideas for me?

Big Sigh...

A Rescued Dove

Posted in birds

My chicken coop hasn't been reattached completely on the top so there is a big hole in the wire.  A dove flew in there and got stuck and did n't know how to get out.     Normally I would just let it figure it's way out or try to open the door and let it fly out by itself.  That is what I do with small songbirds that come in.  But the chickens don't seem to notice the small birds in their coop.   But they definitely noticed a big dove in their coop and two of the chickens pounced on it.

I was in the driveway when I heard the chickens making a ruckus, and I saw the dove flying around crazily trying to get out when the chickens pounced on it.  So I ran up there and ran into their pen and grabbed the dove.  It was very scared and the chickens had a few of its feathers in their beaks.  So I took it out and everyone wanted to look at it. It had the deepest red eyes.  When we let it go, it flew on top of the electric pole and stayed there for at least an hour recuperating from its adventure, but it didn't seem hurt.

I was happy that I was there to rescue it.

Coleman's birthday

Yesterday:

We were going to go to Coleman's birthday at 12:30, and before that we were going to pick up some ingredients for desert at the store and pick up our c ousin Blake from his sister's house.

We got the ingredients and we went to pick up Blake.... uh oh!

We went to leave and my mom got the van stuck in the sand next to the drive.  The sand was deep like the sand at the beach.  So we tried pushing the car out while it was in reverse.  Us kids ran around asking for a shovel.  When we finally got one, we tried to shovel the sand out from behind the wheels and tried to push the car out again.  It didn't work.  We tried putting some plastic mesh bags next to the wheels.  The bags shredded instanty. We tried to get plywood and put it under the tires and then push it or move it, but that didn't work.

Then my mom called my brother Andrew to come out  from Santa Maria and AAA and I went out at the end of the very long dirt drive to wait for them.  There was no shade and it was HOT and I had to wait for about 45 min for them both to finally get there!  Sigh!

My mom said that while I was waiting for AAA, my brother tried to pull out the van but his pull rope broke.  Then he tried pushing etc. but it didn't work.

AAA finally got there  and pulled the van out with the winch on his truck.  And I was very very tired.

We were over an hour late - oh, and we had ice cream in the car  !!!  Oh I forgot, Blake and his sister made a cake with a bunch of Skittles scattered around the platter loosely.  The boys and the littles sat there eating most of them while they waited.

We finally made it to Mimi's for Coleman's birthday.   We had pizza  and cake and ice cream and watched movies and played outside.  When we got home we watched an Air Bud movie until 11:30.

Tomorrow  Coleman is going with Dad on a boat trip with some other boys and their dads.  So we wil see what happens next ...

Day trip to Cambria

My family went to Cmbria today to look at a motorhome.  It took us a long time to get there and we had to drive all over Cambria to find where the motor home was. While we were looking, we saw five deer.  Two were babies with very distinguishable spots.  They were so cute.  When we passed by they were 3 or 4 feet from the car in someone's yard amidst their plants.

The RV wasn't sold when we finally found it so my dad looked at it and decided to buy it.  After he bought it we went and had lunch at a BBQ place.  Emily found a small puppy at the lunch place and kept trying to feed it french fries.

Then we left and had to drive a long way home (over an hour).  My legs were fast asleep when we got there and when we got back.  The motor home gets good gas mileage so I hope we do some fun things with it.  But it doesn't have covers on most of the seats, so my dad is going to try to get covers on them.  It has some other things to fix too, so we'll see what happens with it.

Vacation Bible School

I went to Vacation Bible School this week at St. John's.  We went every day of the week and then we are going to go and do our performance tomorrow.  During the week, we had several different things that we did every day.  We went to the same rooms every day but in different order and there were different things to do every day.  Each room or place had a different name.

Every day we did singing first and last and in between we did several other things.  One of the places that we went to every day was called Bible Blast.  We sort of re-enacted bible things and got to be people from the bible.  We did crafts, one of them was sending soccor balls and bibles to kids in South Africa. Another place was called Cinema Science where we did science things and watched both a movie about the bible and science.

We also went outside and played bible related games.  During our snack each time, we had bible verses written on the tables.

My brother is very uncomfortable doing a performance in front of alot of people.   I hope everything goes well tomorrow.

The Lippizaners

Posted in horses

I went to the Lippizaner show in Santa Maria and brought the camera to take some pictures.  I wanted to put one on my blog.

It was really cool and it was really hard to catch the horses in the air with the camera.  Besides the Lippizaners, they also had an Andalusian stallion.  The Andalusians are the ancestors of the Lippizaner.I have to go now byby.

Secret Sisters

I have to figure out what I am going to give my Secret Sister in Filly Fellowship tomorrow.  I have no ideas this week what to do for her (to give her I mean).  So I hope I get a good idea in my sleep as I leave tomorrow at 11:00.  Last week I made her a colored sand picture of a horse.  The other time I made her some chocolate truffles, which were pretty melted by the time she got them, even tho they were frozen when I brought them.

more stuff ... about chickens

Posted in chickens

We lost one of our silkie pullets two and a half days ago.  We thought that a predator had gotten her, but we found her sqashed in between the conure's outside cage and the wall.  So we got her out and drenched her with some vitamin water and gave her some food and put her in a crate to recuperate.

One of our bantam hens went broody and hatched two chicks.  They are sooooo cute!  They are running around with the other hens and the rooster and they look so tiny.  The rooster is normally very nice but since the chicks have hatched he has become very protective.

The broody hens get mixed up in the next boxes at night.  The one with chicks sleeps in one and two other broody hens in the others.  I forgot to "unmix them" tonight.  uggh! so I hope no new chicks hatch.  So I guess I 'd better gooo nowww thooogh I aaam veery tiirred and donn't waant toooo.  Siiigh....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

stuff about Emily

Earlier today my 4 yo sister Emily was cutting up a pink rubber rabbit from Easter while softly singing "I'm gonna cut your head off; I'm gonna cut your arms off; I'm gonna cut your legs and feet off; I'm gonna cut your ears off."   Then she put the pieces into a bucket of water with a bunch of other cut up stuff (and I think the chickens ate it ...).

Emily wants to go to every party or other event (that is really for adults or older kids) and if she gets to go, I have to watch her the entire time because she messes up people's stuff and takes their stuff and gets into grave danger ...

Stubborn Sunny

Posted in horses

My horse Sunny sometimes is very good and sometimes is very naughty and stubborn.

Last time I rode her, she was very naughty and stubborn.  Every time she is like this, I say to myself, "Next time I go to the feed store, I am going to get you a crop!"

And then, the next time she is good, I think, "Oh, I guess I won't get her a crop."  Then, the next time she is naughty, I think, " I AM going to get you a crop, (again)."   And then, she is good again, and I say that I won't.

I wonder if I will ever get her a crop!

MOVING...

As long as I can remember, we have moved almost every year - at least every year and a half.

My dad says we'll probably move again soon.  He's always saying that.  He's been saying that we are going to move to northern California for the past several years and now he's saying it again.  I wonder if we actually will, or if he'll sell the property.  I don't know, but I hope he'll make up his mind.  My dad always takes a long time to make up his mind about moving.  It gets annoying to have to move all the time.  We just moved to another house and he's already talking about moving.  Ugh!

Filly Fellowship

Posted in horses

I go to a pony club called Filly Fellowship.  This is my fourth year.  We have three sessions per year.  We just started our summer session. During the summer, we do something called secret sisters where we give gifts to someone in our group and they do not know who they are getting gifts from.

This year we are doing a lesson program where we are doing one or two tests a session to go up levels.  In the lesson program, we do stuff like care of horses, riding, stable management, etc.

We are going to FF every week for summer.  In fall and spring, we go every two weeks. We go to the Von Ilten Ranch in Huasna Valley.  We take approximately a two month break in winter.

It's Hot!! Very Hot!!!

We live very near the California coast.  Normally, it is very nice weather, but the past few days have been very hot and today's high was 111 degrees!

Our chickens are panting and we brought the little ones in the house.  They are crying tho.  Our pet rooster keeps overheating and so we dunk his feet in water and hold him in front of the fan in the house until he cools off.  So I better go check on him right now.

I hope it cools off soon.....very soon.
