Hello Ladies,
The tea party was such a wonderful time of fellowship. Thank you to Melissa Laiming for opening her warm and cozy home for us to meet. We chatted together about challenges and triumphs in homeschooling and devoured the tea sandwiches! I know I came away refreshed and encouraged by sharing personal struggles and
hearing that I am not alone in them!!!

We will meet every 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6:30 in the evening. The topics of discussion will focus on different areas of character training. Here are the dates for the rest of our gatherings:
October 14th, November 11th, None in December, January 13th,

Hope to see you sometime this year!!

Come and experience Norman’s Little River Zoo
I have confirmed our date of October 17th with Little River Zoo. The tour starts at 10:00 AM so we need to be there at 9:45. This is on Hwy 9 going toward Norman.
http://www.littleriverzoo.com
3405 SE 120th Ave. (3/4 mile S. of Hwy 9E),8/10 ths of a mile South of HW9 on 120th Ave SE

The tour will be from 10-11:30. Then we'll eat lunch. They have picnic tables but we need to take a sack lunch. They do sell snacks, water, tea, and juices in their gift shop. They'll give us about 30 minutes to eat and then do a short educational program and bring some animals up close when we'refinished eating. It is stroller and wheelchair friendly.

Because we're taking such a large group, the price will work out to be $3.50 per person. It could even be cheaper than that if more signup.

... it's not too late to sign up if you haven't already!
Thanks, Jennifer
Kasper

important notes ...

When you enlist your family for an event, be sure to let the coordinator of that event know if you do not have regular internet access. Then they will know to call you if plans change.

If you will be coordinating an event or field trip, remember that
though many of us depend on our Yahoo site and e-mail for last minute
information, not everyone can be contacted in this way.

Those of us who enjoy the convenience of the internet, when it
comes to contacting each other, should not forget that our newsletter,
and phone calls, are still necessary to convey information to our whole
PCHEA family.

PCHEA yahoo group is a vital way our group communicates on a consistent basis. We receive a
monthly newsletter that notifies members of scheduled events but new opportunities present themselves from time to time and it is through our yahoo group that we let others know of these changes.

PCHEA highly recommends if at all possible that current PCHEA members become a part of the
PCHEA/Yahoo group. You will be receiving an email invitation from the PCHEA group inviting you to
be a part of the PCHEA/Yahoo group. This is a private group and only current members of our
organization receive the group's emails after accepting the email invitation.

When you receive your invitation, you can click on the link included in the invitation or copy and
paste it into your browser. If you do not have a current yahoo account, you will need to set up your
account in a few easy steps after clicking on the link. Just answer a few simple questions, select an ID
and password, and you'll be all set.

BE SURE AND SAVE YOUR USER NAME AND PASSWORD AS
PCHEA DOES NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THAT INFORMATION.

You can choose to receive your yahoo emails in a couple of ways. You can sign up to receive
individual emails that arrive in your mailbox shortly after it has been sent. You can also choose to have
your emails arrive in a digest version that usually arrives once a day containing all the group's email
activity for that day. If you do not like the thought of emails cluttering your mailbox, you can choose to
read your emails online...though if you don't get online then you are unable to stay current with PCHEA
happenings. For the most part, the PCHEA email traffic is fairly light though sometimes around a time
of an event there is more discussions about that event.

We do ask that you limit your email conversations to PCHEA happenings or home school specific
information. Please do not discuss political opinions or send forwards through the group. That helps to
keep the PCHEA email to a manageable number.

When you get on the PCHEA/yahoo site you will find the different sections of the website listed
on the left side. You can search through the messages to find information. You will also see a file
section where PCHEA documents and Membership files are kept. You can download the current
directory by clicking on the file you are interested in. Save that file to your computer and then you can
open it after the download.

If you have any questions or need help, I am happy to help you.
Many Blessings,
Julie

A note to new friends and old,
I would like to ask for a bit of patience from new members as I update my address book and get the e-mail vs. post requests worked out. Forgive me if I missed something I was asked to print. There seems to be an encouraging abundance of opportunities and
information as school starts for the year.
Your Newsletter Editor,
Susan McMullen

Keepers of the Faith Club being organized!
Yvonna Bourlon and Teresa Burnett are starting a “Keepers of the Faith” club for boys and girls ages 4-18. This is a “hands-on” type program where children learn practical/life skills such as cake decorating for girls, wood working for boys, first aid and a host of other skills and activities. Children are encouraged to be Godly participates in their community while learning leadership skills, at the same
time being encouraged to be creative and resourceful. This program is ible-based without any denominational specific teachings.

We will have a list of skills and activities that will be done together as a group. Many of the skills listed in the Keepers Club handbooks can be completed at home such as literature, foreign language, gardening, church, family, hospitality, pets, etc. When skills and goals are met, achievement awards are earned in the form of badges or pins.

The Keepers Club will meet monthly with small monthly dues ($1/child) collected to cover the cost of supplies for the activities. There will be a $5/family registration fee to help with start up costs. At the end of the year, an Awards Banquet will be held where children can display some of the things they’ve done throughout the year. This will also be a time of recognition where the badges and pins will be awarded for the children’s accomplishments.

If you’re interested you can call Yvonna Bourlon or Teresa Burnett. If you would like to read more about Keepers of the Faith you can visit their website at: http://www.keepersofthefaith.com/

We need to get a count of Keeper Club members in order to plan our first meeting. September 16th, will be the date of our first meeting and thereafter the second Tues. of each month will be the meeting date from 4-6pm. Location has not been confirmed but we are hoping to find something that is central to the Shawnee area. If you know of any possibilities let Yvonna or me know.

Also, we are needing to get a final count for handbook orders. Attached is information about the cost, including web links to read descriptions of the handbooks. I will be ordering handbooks on August 29th, 2008. If you would like for me to order your books let me know before the 29th. Shipping will be minimal to no shipping cost depending on how many orders we have.
Fondly, Teresa

Why 4-H?

It changes lives by forming lifelong friendships. Young people share new experiences, solve problems or tackle tough projects together to form unshakable bonds. These bonds replace the need to become involved in negative peer associations, such as gangs. It changes lives by developing leadership skills. 4-H Members have many opportunities to learn and practice leadership skills. They often use these
skills to assume positions of responsibility within the community. It changes lives by showing real-life application of concepts. 4-H projects take classroom concepts and apply them to everyday life. 4-H
projects demand that youth undertake a number of competencies hands-on.

Today 4-H is everywhere
– in cities, suburbs, small towns and rural co mmunities. 4-H is not about cows, rabbits, cooking, computers, sewing, camping, leather craft, or horses. It is really about what happens to people, both people who participate in 4-H and people who have contact with 4-H. In short, 4-H CHANGES LIVES.

Cornerstone 4-H is inviting you come and join us and be a part of 4-H!

Our first meeting will be on Thursday September 25th.
We will meet at noon, the last Thursday of every month
at the 4-H extension office, 14001 Acme, Shawnee, OK

If you would like to participate in the Pott County Free Fair and show your exhibits as a 4-Her then you can contact Julie Cockroft. and I will send you the form that you need to participate. Fair categories and information can be found at http://news-starextra.com/fair.html
