~He is Risen... Such Beautiful Words~
Nov. 28, 2008 - I do not do well coming up with original titles. (If you haven't noticed yet.)
As you may have noticed, I'm great at coming up with original titles. (That was sarcastic.)
We celebrated Thanksgiving with our Grandparents. (We also celebrated my birthday, which was the twenty fifth.) Well, actually I celebrated my birthday with my family on Mon., then went to Grandma and Grandpa's and celebrated my birthday again, along with Thanksgiving. So... Two cakes in three days isn't too bad. :)
I wanted to mention something that makes me mad.
Here's an example...
We (Jake, Nick and I) went to our library a week ago to listen to some people tell "holiday" stories. The first lady, who was pretty elderly, stood up to tell a story. Her story goes: "When the pilgrims first landed in America, they starved through the winter. Half of them died. They would have all died the next summer if it hadn't been for the Indians who taught them to hunt, plant, and survive. That autumn, they threw a feast for the Indians, to thank them for all the had done..."
NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!!!
The pilgrims had a Thanksgiving to thank God for all He had done for them. They invited the Indians to share the feast with them, but the pilgrims saw that God had used the Indians. They were thanking God, first and foremost, for providing for them through the Indians. Sadly, many people gloss over this fact, ignore it completely. Many people pretend that Thanksgiving doesn't exist.

Now, my thoughts on...

Clothing:
Clothing should not be too tight, short, low, or high. There is a line that many girls cross, just to look attractive and pretty. I, personally, am sickened by the lack of clothing many girls wear. It is a stumbling block for young men, and a temptation for young women.
I do not believe that a woman or girl has to wear skirts or dresses to be modest, or even feminine. I wear skirts and dresses on Sundays. I do not believe that if a girl cannot do an activity in skirts, she should not do it.
For example: In the summer, we play softball with homeschool friends. I really enjoy that, and I couldn't wear a skirt. It's just not practicable. Yes, some of you may say that softball is unfeminine, but I enjoy nonetheless. In the winter, we have a book discussion once a month, then we go to the community center, which has a skating rink (It's all free) and a basketball court in one. I could skate in a skirt, but it would be uncomfortable. We also play basketball. I know some very feminine, modest girls who play basketball, wearing blue jeans. They are a good example to me of being a lady. They are polite, sweet, and modest.
Atitude:
There is also modesty in atitude and spirit. Not being proud, no gloating, not boasting, being generous, gentle, and kind. Letting your light shine.
In conclusion: I find that I can be feminine in blue jeans. While playing softball, basketball. While running and playing with small children. (Which is sort of hard in skirts. I'm pretty clumsy, so even when I try to walk faster in skirts/dresses, I trip and fall. I also do horribly in dress shoes. I'm most comfortable when I'm barefoot, as well as wearing jeans and a tee shirt.)
In Christ,
Emily
