~He is Risen... Such Beautiful Words~
 Dec. 27, 2008 - Jingle Bells
Merry belated Christmas! I wasn't able to post Thursday or Friday because we went to Grandpa and Grandma's for Christmas. We got to see our Georgian relatives for Christmas. My sister Julia and I were able to spend a lot of time with Sara, our ten year old cousin. It was great getting to see them, because we don't see them very often.
I love Christmas, because it's when we celebrate Jesus' birth, and we also see a lot of family. I also love the music, uplifting and inspiring. Jingle Bells, one of the most loved "Christmas" carols, is actually not related to Christmas.

In 1840, James Pierpont's father asked him to write a special song for their church's Thanksgiving service. James sat at home, trying to find the inspiration for a special carol.
As he mused, he noticed some children sledding outside. He watched them, cheering them on. As he did, a tune came to his head. He ran over to a neighbor's house and asked to play the piano. He worked out the tune, and added words inspired by his observations of the children. At the end of the day, he had his song. He taught it to the choir at his church, and it became an instant favorite.

If you're interested in the stories behind many Christmas songs, then I would suggest that you read the book "Stories Behind the Best-Loved Songs of Christmas" by Ace Collins.
May Christ bless you and keep you safe!
In Christ,
Emily
