~He is Risen... Such Beautiful Words~
 Jan. 15, 2009 - A deep, meaningful revelation of my personal shortcoming.
I usually don't blog unless I have something to say. (Because, wouldn't you truly rather that I wait a week to post instead of posting meaningless posts every day?) Well, I do have something to say today.
I am not known for exceptional grace around the house. I am going through a clumsy stage known as life. I am constantly spilling, dropping and breaking things. (Sometimes I am simultaneously dropping, spilling and breaking.) Today is no exception.
For lunch, we had leftover chilli, along with cornbread and some sort of chicken, bamboo and rice soup. I was carrying my bowl of chilli to the dining room (Which is situated right next to the kitchen) when I tripped and dropped the bowl, spilling the contents across the floor. (Thankfully, the chilli wasn't very soupy. It was mainly vegetables I cleaned up.) After scooping the chilli back into the bowl, I walked into the kitchen, tripped, and dropped the bowl, again. By this time my mom was somewhere between laughing and crying (in despair of my ever learning to walk without spilling, dropping, or breaking something), and my six year old brother was insisting that I clean it up. (Without his help, mind you. :)
So, after I cleaned that up, I got a bowl of the rice soup. (No spills, yay!) Arghh! I'm just not a naturally graceful, balanced person. :)
In Christ,
~Emily

 Nov. 28, 2008 - I do not do well coming up with original titles. (If you haven't noticed yet.)
As you may have noticed, I'm great at coming up with original titles. (That was sarcastic.)
We celebrated Thanksgiving with our Grandparents. (We also celebrated my birthday, which was the twenty fifth.) Well, actually I celebrated my birthday with my family on Mon., then went to Grandma and Grandpa's and celebrated my birthday again, along with Thanksgiving. So... Two cakes in three days isn't too bad. :)
I wanted to mention something that makes me mad.
Here's an example...
We (Jake, Nick and I) went to our library a week ago to listen to some people tell "holiday" stories. The first lady, who was pretty elderly, stood up to tell a story. Her story goes: "When the pilgrims first landed in America, they starved through the winter. Half of them died. They would have all died the next summer if it hadn't been for the Indians who taught them to hunt, plant, and survive. That autumn, they threw a feast for the Indians, to thank them for all the had done..."
NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!!!
The pilgrims had a Thanksgiving to thank God for all He had done for them. They invited the Indians to share the feast with them, but the pilgrims saw that God had used the Indians. They were thanking God, first and foremost, for providing for them through the Indians. Sadly, many people gloss over this fact, ignore it completely. Many people pretend that Thanksgiving doesn't exist.
`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~
Now, my thoughts on...

Clothing:
Clothing should not be too tight, short, low, or high. There is a line that many girls cross, just to look attractive and pretty. I, personally, am sickened by the lack of clothing many girls wear. It is a stumbling block for young men, and a temptation for young women.
I do not believe that a woman or girl has to wear skirts or dresses to be modest, or even feminine. I wear skirts and dresses on Sundays. I do not believe that if a girl cannot do an activity in skirts, she should not do it.
For example: In the summer, we play softball with homeschool friends. I really enjoy that, and I couldn't wear a skirt. It's just not practicable. Yes, some of you may say that softball is unfeminine, but I enjoy nonetheless. In the winter, we have a book discussion once a month, then we go to the community center, which has a skating rink (It's all free) and a basketball court in one. I could skate in a skirt, but it would be uncomfortable. We also play basketball. I know some very feminine, modest girls who play basketball, wearing blue jeans. They are a good example to me of being a lady. They are polite, sweet, and modest.
Atitude:
There is also modesty in atitude and spirit. Not being proud, no gloating, not boasting, being generous, gentle, and kind. Letting your light shine.
In conclusion: I find that I can be feminine in blue jeans. While playing softball, basketball. While running and playing with small children. (Which is sort of hard in skirts. I'm pretty clumsy, so even when I try to walk faster in skirts/dresses, I trip and fall. I also do horribly in dress shoes. I'm most comfortable when I'm barefoot, as well as wearing jeans and a tee shirt.)
In Christ,
Emily

 Nov. 13, 2008 - ouch! my toe!
Hmm... I'll write about something other than the election. I've gotten over my disappointment (That doesn't mean I'm happy about it, but I'll survive. :) On to happier subjects...
Yesterday Nick and I babysat for mom while she went on her turn of the bi-weekly milk pick-up. (We trade around with another family, driving down into Kentucky to buy milk from the Amish in that area. We also pick up cheese, and other foodstuffs. Mom goes, then two weeks later one of our friends goes, then mom goes two weeks later.)
So, we babysat yesterday. We had three of the littles. (Mom took Mariam, the almost one year old.) We played with them until lunch time, then Nick took them somewhere and played with them, and I made lunch. (Side note: my endeavors in the kitchen don't always turn out quite right. :) I was making the macaroni and cheese, boiling the hot dogs to go into the macaroni and cheese, and baking brownies for desert.
I managed to drop three hot dogs into the boiling macaroni, not paying attention. I had to fish them out. Thankfully, no mishaps happened, peace prevailed, and I did kitchen clean up with a sense of satisfaction.
I stubbed my little toe (on the left foot.) on a door frame and broke it yesterday afternoon. (I didn't break the door frame, I broke the toe.) It sort of hurts, but it's just one of those things where I say "Oh well" and deal with it.
Gotta go.
In Christ,
Emily

 Oct. 9, 2008 - I'm Back!!!
| Our internet has been down for about two weeks, and thus, I haven't been able to post. Just a quick summary of recent "doings" in our family.
Some of you commented on my last post and told me to be careful on the four wheeler. Yes, I took your advice, but that didn't stop me from running into a barb wire fence. Ouch! My right hand was scratched, and my cousin (She was riding behind me) got several scratches on her right side. But the four wheeler took most of the brunt. :) The pain, and most of the scratches, have faded, but next year I'll remember to stay away from the fence. ;)
After running into the fence, and recuperating, we went swimming. (We spent most of our time building sand castles.) It was fun, however.
Grandpa's birthday went by fine (He received shrunken heads and corncobs for his outhouse. (My Grandpa does have a sense of humor.) The shrunken heads were just apples. Don't worry. We're not THAT macabre.)
Soo... Anything eventful happening in anyone else's life?
See ya'll later!
In Christ,
~Emily

 Sep. 18, 2008 - I just remembered...
...My blogiversary is October 8th. So, in a few weeks, I'll have been blogging for a year. My, how time does fly.
I might not be able to blog next Thursday. My Grandpa is having his 84th birthday on Saturday (the 27), and uncles, aunts, and cousins will be coming down (and up as well. Some relatives live in Georgia.)
Oh yes, and every year, when my uncle, aunt, and cousin come up from Georgia, they bring their...
...Four wheelers! We don't own any four wheelers, golf carts, or any of those other fun electronics. So, we (Nick, Jake, Julia and I) have fun riding four wheelers with our cousin. :)
One thing I just realized... The links are working again! Yay! I haven't been able to use the links for several months. My technologically astute brother helped me with them when he could, but most of the time I had to write out the URLs and people would have to copy/paste them. Such a pain! :)
So, I'll probably see you, my beloved readers, (haha) in two weeks.
In Christ,
Emily

 Sep. 4, 2008 - I'm really having trouble coming up with titles. :(
Hello! This may be a slightly longer post, due to the fact that I did not post last week.
Lately, I haven't been posting many worthwhile posts. It's basically been updates on my life. (Which in reality isn't as boring as it sounds. :D)
I haven't really taken any political stances, either. (So none of you really know where I stand.)
Let me start by telling you that at the begininng of the elections, my family wasn't too excited about
Mr. McCain. We support President Bush, and Mr. McCain is more liberal on some subjects than we are.
However... This election became more exciting when John McCain chose Sarah Palin as his VP candidate. Sarah was the Governer of Alaska. She is a mom of five. Her oldest son is going to be sent to Iran soon. Her youngest son, Trig, is a down syndrome baby. When she was pregnant with him, she and her husband Todd knew that he was going to be down syndrome. They were given the choice to abort him. They chose not to. The Palins obviously love their baby. They have three daughters in between. Sarah is forty four.
There is a big issue among the homeschoolers, concerning Sarah Palin and her acceptance to run as Vice President. Many say that Sarah should be staying home with her children. While I believe that it is best that mothers stay home with their children, I also believe that sometimes, it is necessary for women to step forward into the political scene. In many cases, women can't stay at home with her children. I do not believe it is sin if a woman is forced to work and send her children to public school. If the woman is purposefully rebelling against what God wants her to by working to greedily earn money she doesn't need, then I believe that is wrong. Whether or not it's a sin is between her and God.
Sarah has experience none of the other candidates do. She is a mother. She knows a mother's pains and joys; the ups and downs of motherhood. She has a special needs child, she will be able to relate to the mothers of special needs children. Sarah Palin- "If you elect us, I promise that you will have a advocate and friend in the white house." This woman is genuine. The people love her. She comes from a small town, a family that "works with their hands." She has charisma, charm, and warmth. She also has a sense of humor. She sold the governments unneccesary luxury jet on ebay. She can also make fun of and laugh at herself. Sarah Palin- "What's the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull? Lipstick."
My family watched her speech last night. We laughed a lot. During her speech, the camera showed Piper, her youngest daughter, holding Trig, the baby. She was smoothing down his hair. She then stopped, licked her hand, then smoothed his hair with it again. precious! As for the arguement about her not being with her family... Her family is with her! There are pictures of her working with Trig in a sling, with her all the time. We pray for God to send someone to deliver us from abortion, and persecution of our beliefs, but when he sends someone, we shoot her down because she's a woman. She's a Conservative Christian mother, with a down syndrome child. She understands having a family. She's "The real thing".
I know that many of you will not agree with me on this, but I ask that you will keep open minds. I must say that I am against Barack Obama. That is something I will not change, no matter how long he stands and shouts "Change!" Oh yes, Mr. Obama. We can use change. Change as in...
Abortion being outlawed. Something that you'd never want to change.

Wellllll..... Sorry I didn't blog last Thursday. Here's a quick synopsis of what's going on:
Where I was last week:
September 22nd, my older brother Nick and I went to my grandma and grandpa's house. (Main reason: piano lessons) Jake came too. (though he doesn't play piano.) After Nick and I had piano lessons, we went to my grandma's house and spent the rest of the day clipping irises. (Whew, that was a really hot, sweaty, grimy day. :P)
We stayed overnight Saturday, then went to church and my grandma's WCTU meeting with them on Sunday. Monday morning, we went to meet mom at an eye center in a nearby town. (Jake was getting new glasses.) Then we went home with mom.
The next day, on Tuesday, my grandma had hernia surgery. She needed help with walking the first few days, due to the fact that she was sore, and that she didn't do well with the anesthesia. (Sorry, that was a run-on sentence. Please forgive my grammar.)
I spent Tuesday thru Friday (25th to the 29th) at my grandma and grandpa's house. On Friday, I came home. So, yes, there is my week. (That explains why I didn't post last Thursday. :P)
Well, I notice that I don't have many visitors or comments. No surprise. I've dropped behind on my blogging. (Sorry!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My mom has been blogging about the election a lot as well. I'd encourage you to visit her blog and read her posts. (http://seekingfaithfulness.wordpress.com)
In Christ,
Emily
Note: I am not attacking or accusing anyone. I just wish to post my beliefs and views.
 Aug. 14, 2008 - What should I name this entry?
It's been so long since I've posted or visited friends. We've had a very busy summer. Quick outline:
June:
Both sets of Grandparents had anniversaries. For my paternal (My dad's parents) Grandparents, we had to drive seventeen hours to MN and fifteen back. (We were delayed by bad weather the trip up.)
July:
Jake and Nick had birthdays. (Jake's was the 11th, Nick's was the 10th. Nick is 14, Jake is 16.)
VBS- second to last week in July. Jake, Nick and I helped with that.
IYTC camp- (Ilinois Youth Temperance Conference camp). Our first cousins once removed were the deans. Four of our second cousins attended.
Oh, we've also had softball on Friday evenings this summer, (We play with other homeschoolers. Tomorrow is the last week.) as well as lots of other homeschool activites that have built up to make a busy summer.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The point is: I'm back! I'll try to blog once a week. (Thursday is my computer day.) I'll try to get around to everyone's blogs and leave comments.
Oh yes, Jake and my mom posted about a recent field trip we took.
(The link button is not working, so I'll write out the blog adresses.)
Jake- http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/palmzealot
Mom- http://www.seekingfaithfulness.wordpress.com
Nick- http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/grelb32
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, the point of this post has basically been to tell you that I'm all alive, and that I'm not abandoning you.
Oh yes, one more point of interest. When we returned from a homeschool field trip planning meeting, I found that I had received my Palm Zire©, a Palm© handheld I found on ebay for $5.99 (I know it's not the best Palm© handheld, but it works! Plus it was cheap. :D)
Well, that's all for now. See y'all next Thurs.!
In Christ,
Emily
P.s. The kittens are now not living with us. They have a different home now. Our cat, Sparkles, is pregnant and due any day, so we shall soon have more kittens. :D
 Jun. 24, 2008 - Well, I'm back from a long and exhausting trip
Well, I'm back. It's been a while since I've been on. We got back from the trip yesterday morning. (1:00 a.m. to be precise.) You're probably wondering what trip. (You can tell that this is going to be a somewhat long post. :) I'll have to start with the beginning of June.
On June 8th we celebrated my maternal grandparent's 50th anniversary celebration. They live 45 minutes away from us, so my mom was the person who organized basically everything. (And set most everything up as well.)
As soon as that was done, we started packing for our big trip to MN for my paternal grandparent's 50th anniversary. So... We got everything packed for a 16 hour (both ways) trip to Minnesota for a week.
Yes... the "vacation" went well on Mon. and Tues. ... We went swimming, I got sunburned... (Ouch! But it seems to be turning into a sort of tan... :D) We ran free and wild... And then I got sick. Yep. Bummer! Tuesday night, I felt sick. Several of us were sick. All in all, it was fun.
Anyway, I woke up Wed. morning with a fever, stomach-ache, head-ache, and a stuffy nose. I'm still really congested. :( The next day I was the same. (Thursday) On Friday I felt better, but I was losing my voice. On Saturday, my voice sounded nasally and strange.
On Sunday the 22nd, I basically lost my voice. (We left the 22nd.) I lost all high and low pitch. I spoke in a hoarse whisper. (Fun, especially when you're in a loud van for 17 hours. ;) So... We got home around one a.m. Monday morn, and today we're still cleaning and recuperating.
One thing that cracked me up this month is that there was a Friday the 13th. (That is supposedly an unlucky day.) We play softball with some of our homeschool friends on Friday. On Friday the 13th, the game had to be canceled because of rain. :D
Well, thanks for reading this entry!
I have to bring it to a close. Bye for now...
In Christ,
Emily
 May. 23, 2008 - A quick post...
Okay, this will be short. I'm starting art lessons (figure drawing.) from Heather Young. Since links on HSB don't seem to be working... Heather's home site is http://untraditionalhome.com and her art website is http://elasah.com. The lessons are figure drawing. If you're six or older you can join. Here's the picture I drew:
 May. 20, 2008 - Ah... Coffee. You can never drink too much.
I'm having a lot of trouble trying to figure out how to start my posts. How does: "Dearest Reader" sound? No, I don't really like that. Maybe I should just start into the post and forget trying to find something suitable. Oh well, I've solved the problem for the moment. I'll just keep stalling till next time. :]
I've had a sort of busy day so far. (I'm still waiting to see if anything else is going to happen before I say that the whole day has been busy. At least two thirds of the day has been eventful. :)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'd better give you some history. My Grandpa is eighty three, and my Grandma is seventy two. Over the last fifteen years, my Grandpa has had some health problems. Back in January of 2006, my Grandpa had problems with his blood pressure, and he was really ill. He had to be rushed to the hospital by helicopter. At that time, we lived eleven hours away from them, and it was a hard trip with a bunch of little kids. But, we rushed down to where they lived, and stayed for a while. We all thought that my grandpa was going to die. But, with God's help, he recovered, and we went home.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After that happened, my parents had to make the decision about whether or not to move. My mom's parents were getting older, and none of their kids lived near them. Their three oldest children live down in Georgia. My mom. who is the youngest, lived up in Michigan. (Along with my dad and seven kids, of course. :)
My dad used to be the senior pastor of a church. In January of 2007, he announced that we would be leaving the church to move near my grandparents and take care of them. In June, we had our last VBS with our church. In July, Jake, Nick and I went on a church youth group canoe trip. On August 8th, 2007, we set out on an eleven hour trip to our new home.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Around nine thirty this morning, we got a call from my Grandma, and she said that she had taken my Grandpa to the hospital because he was sick. He had problems with his adrenalin. My mom decided to go and be with her. Mom, Mariam and I set out for the hospital. On the way there, we stopped and got some lunch. (Even though it was only ten thirty.) We also brought some lunch for my Grandma. When we got there, my Grandpa was still in the E.R. We went in, talked with him and Grandma for a while, then the doctor came in, and we stepped into the hall. A kind nurse came up and told us we could use their "Hospitality room". (Which turned out to be a kitchen with a coffee maker full of coffee.) Over the afternoon, I had three cups of coffee. (Don't blame me, the temptation was too strong. The coffee was sitting there, just waiting for me.)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When we left this afternoon, (around 2:40) my Grandpa was feeling a little better. He's staying overnight, and we hope that he's able to go home tomorrow. We are very grateful that we're able to be close to my Grandparents.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, yes, a better portion of my day has been, um, eventful. One question; do you like it when I post spontaneously, or often?
Thank you for reading this post (Unless you skimmed, then I won't thank you. :)
In Christ,
Emily
