Feb. 25, 2009 - Those We Love Best
This poem was taken from a devotional my mother and father-in-law gave me for Christmas called Time Apart for Mothers - Hearing God in a Busy World
It is published by Access Publishing
There's one sad truth in life I've found,
While journeying east to west;
The only folks we really wound
Are those we love the best.
We flatter those we scarcely know;
We please the fleeting guest,
And deal full many a thoughtless blow
To those who love us best.

I'd say that is because the 'family' we have, has relationship with us that has many layers and things run deep. We are not invested in the strangers.
Blessings!

Yes, but in our daily dealings with our own children and husbands, don't you think we should keep in mind that we should treat them with at least as much respect and dignity and kindness and patience as we treat the children and husbands of other people? I think it's a goal we should strive for. I don't think it's right for us to take out our frustrations or react to their misbehavior with anger when we wouldn't do that in front of others. I'm not saying I never do that, I just have a goal of not doing it any more. I've been slipping back into anger and impatience with my 2 year old, and I'm sure having a nursing baby doesn't help my energy level, but I'm making up my mind to correct without anger, and to get up and do what needs to be done instead of sitting at the computer and yelling at her.
I think it's a good goal to never treat my kids badly just because I can get away with it. They're stuck with me, and they're too little to strike back and they know they're under my authority, so they're subject to my decrees.
That's what I think of when I think of those who love me best.
