Israel takes aim at Hezbollah stronghold BEIRUT, Lebanon (CNN) -- Israeli forces and Hezbollah militants battled Monday in southern Lebanon around what the Israeli military has dubbed Hezbollah's "terror capital." The fighting took place in the Bint Jbeil area, north of Maroun Al-Ras, and involved aerial and ground forces. Israeli troops killed "a number of Hezbollah fighters" and wounded dozens during ground fighting at a Katyusha rocket launch site near Bint Jbeil, the Israel Defense Forces said. (Watch as the Israelis strike Hezbollah's stronghold -- 1:40) Two Israeli soldiers were killed, and about 20 soldiers were wounded, the IDF said. The Israeli military believes Bint Jbeil is an important weapons storage area for Hezbollah, with tunnels, bunkers and caves holding large supplies of missiles, rockets and launchers, military sources said. "There are large numbers of explosive devices and mines in the area, and heavy fire is being exchanged," said IDF spokeswoman Miri Regev. "We intend to clean out the area in order to avoid firing at Israel. We intend to reach the central towns from which Katyushas [rockets] are being fired, dismantle terror infrastructure, to hit the terrorists and then to leave." In addition, the IDF said it had seized two Hezbollah guerrillas "suspected in involvement in terror activities" in Maroun Al-Ras. The guerrillas were captured Sunday and are being held in Israel. On Sunday, Hezbollah conceded that Israel had gained control of Maroun Al-Ras. The IDF called the village its "first foothold" in southern Lebanon in an effort to create a security buffer zone. Over the weekend, Israeli officials said they would not oppose a multinational force in a buffer zone along Lebanon's southern border to guarantee against further incursions by Hezbollah. As the crisis entered its 13th day Monday, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice stopped in Beirut to meet with Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora. She then headed to Israel, where she was to meet with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. She also was expected to meet with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah. (Full story) Unlike U.N. and European Union officials, the Bush administration has not called for an immediate end to the fighting, arguing that leaving Hezbollah in place on Israel's northern border would only make further conflict inevitable. Israeli artillery and warplanes have been pounding Lebanon since July 12, when Hezbollah captured two Israeli soldiers in a cross-border raid. Hezbollah has responded to the bombardment by firing more than 1,000 rockets into Israel, the IDF said. At least 375 people, most of them civilians, have died and at least 727 have been wounded in Lebanon, officials with the Lebanese security forces said Monday. Northern Israel under barrageIn Israel, the death toll is 39 -- 17 of them civilians and 22 soldiers -- according to the IDF. More than 300 civilians and more than 60 soldiers have been wounded. The latest barrage of Hezbollah rockets landed near the northern Israeli cities of Tiberias, Kiryat Shmona, Maalot, Nahariya and north of Haifa. By Monday afternoon, 90 rockets had been fired at northern Israel, wounding seven people, Israeli police said. An Israeli military helicopter also crashed Monday on the Israeli side of the Lebanon border close to Bint Jbeil, killing two pilots on board, the IDF said. The crash was an accident, the IDF added. (Watch flames shoot from crashed helicopter -- 1:30) Relief to arriveThe United States has pledged $30 million in humanitarian aid to Lebanon and will supply 100,000 medical kits, 20,000 blankets and 2,000 rolls of plastic sheeting, said David Welch, an aide to Rice. U.S. warships and aircraft that have been used to evacuate Americans from Lebanon to Cyprus will help deliver the aid, a Pentagon official said. Medical supplies will be shipped to Beirut for distribution by aid agencies. U.N. relief coordinator Jan Egeland has appealed for a cease-fire. The damage in Lebanon is "far beyond what we normally see in wars," he told CNN, and he urged Israel to scale back its campaign. He said his team does not have safe access to those trapped in southern Lebanon, where most of the country's estimated 500,000 internally displaced people are located. And he said the bombing has made roads impassable. Nonetheless, aid workers planned to run convoys of trucks from Beirut to the southern city of Tyre on Wednesday and Friday, Egeland later added. The United Nations has no direct contact with Hezbollah and can only appeal to the group "indirectly" through the media. His agency has launched an appeal for nearly $150 million in humanitarian aid to help the 800,000 Lebanese estimated to be displaced or in need of humanitarian assistance. Israeli forces also struck a truck in Kfarshima, southeast of Beirut, near the main airport, Lebanese security forces said. The Israeli air force struck a site east of Sidon used by Hezbollah to launch rockets, an IDF spokesman said. They also hit a car that the spokesman said contained militants who were fleeing the area after launching rockets. An Israeli missile also hit two Red Cross ambulances late Sunday in the southern Lebanese town of Qana, killing one person and seriously wounding two others, a Red Cross official said. The official said the ambulances were clearly marked as Red Cross vehicles and were part of an effort to transport the wounded to hospitals in Tyre. There was no immediate comment from Israeli military officials. Israel says its weapons are legalLebanese Health Minister Mohammad Khalifeh on Monday cited suspicions that Israel is using weapons that may contain phosphorus. "There is no evidence but high clinical suspicions," Khalifeh said, pointing to severe burns that doctors are seeing on people in hospitals. In a statement, the Israeli military said, "All IDF weapons and ammunition comply with international law." International rules of war forbid the use of weapons that cause indiscriminate suffering but make no specific reference to phosphorus. |

Shortly after the United States announced agreement with France on a draft U.N. cease-fire resolution on the 25th day of the conflict, a Hezbollah Cabinet minister said militant Shiite guerrillas would not stop fighting until all Israeli troops leave Lebanon. The draft resolution makes no such demand. "We (will) abide by it on condition that no Israeli soldier remains inside Lebanese land. If they stay, we will not abide by it," said Mohammed Fneish, one of two Hezbollah members of the government. Visit FOXNews.com's Mideast Center for more in-depth coverage. An Israeli Cabinet minister said Israel, too, had no intention to end its offensive for the time being. "The Israeli military continues to act in the meantime, without letup, in many areas," Tourism Minister Isaac Herzog said. "We still have the coming days for many military missions, but we have to know that the timetable is becoming increasingly shorter." The Lebanese Cabinet went into session shortly after the U.S.-French plan was announced, but decided to withhold endorsement until it saw a final draft resolution, apparently preferring to stay united behind its own proposals for the time being. Even if the U.N. Security Council adopts the resolution hard-fought in long negotiations between the United States and France the task of winning agreement from the warring party portended a far more bumpy diplomatic road than the one already traveled. As written, the resolution would be a difficult, if not impossible, pill for Hezbollah to swallow, particularly language calling for the "unconditional release" of two Israeli soldiers captured by the guerrillas in a cross-border raid July 12. The hostage taking prompted the Israeli onslaught in Lebanon. Hezbollah snatched the two soldiers to use them as bargaining tools for the release of Arab prisoners held by Israel, including three Lebanese. While the draft resolution directs Hezbollah to release the Israelis unconditionally it only encourages "efforts aimed at settling the issue of the Lebanese prisoners detained in Israel." That language may prove the fundamental deal-breaker for Hezbollah, whose leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah vowed eight days into the conflict never to release the two Israeli soldiers without a prisoner exchange even "if the whole universe comes (against us)." As it became clear a U.S.-French agreement on the draft U.N. cease-fire resolution was drawing near, Israeli-Hezbollah fighting grew particularly intense. Israel resumed airstrikes on Hezbollah strongholds in south Beirut and for the first time struck in the Christian heartland north of the capital, rocketing bridges and severing the last major road link to Syria and the outside world. In the past two days, Hezbollah fired 365 rockets into Israel, including the deepest strike of the conflict on Hadera, some 80 kilometers (50 miles) south of the border. Six civilians were killed in the attacks. Over the same period, Israel conducted as many as 170 airstrikes on targets in Lebanon, killing at least 45 people. The U.N. peacekeeping force in the south of the country, known as UNIFIL, reported what it called "intense shelling and exchanges on the ground" all along the common border. Israel has taken control of a band of territory a few kilometers (miles) deep right across the frontier. In the most dramatic operation, Israeli commandos battled Hezbollah guerrillas in a pre-dawn raid on an apartment building in the southern Lebanese port city of Tyre. The raid was the latest Israeli commando operation deep inside Lebanese territory aimed at taking out Hezbollah positions. Both Israel and Hezbollah claimed victory in the Tyre battle with Israel claiming it was "very successful" in taking out a key guerrilla unit involved in firing long-range rockets into Israel including one that hit Hadera. Lebanese military and rescue workers said at least five Lebanese including a soldier at a nearby checkpoint were killed in the raid. The Israeli military reported eight soldiers wounded, two seriously. So far, at least 572 people have died in the fighting in Lebanon including 489 civilians, 28 members of the army and 50 Hezbollah guerrillas. Added to the total deaths were five Syrian farm workers killed in an Israel airstrike just inside the Lebanese border in the Bekaa Valley whose deaths were not counted when the attack occurred Friday. A total of seven civilians and one soldier were killed Saturday. Seventy-eight Israelis have died, including 45 soldiers and 33 civilians killed by Hezbollah rockets. The latest deaths were three Israeli women in a direct hit on a house in an Arab village and one Israeli soldier killed in fighting with Hezbollah. | ||||

Well my sisters and I (QuickWitted and Embroidery4love) started a small candy buisness this is how it got started, at first we were trying to raise money to go to a conference and we raised 200$ (the amount we needed) but we did not get to go because we had no ride, so we had no ride and the money was just waiting to be spent and I for a while had been thinking about starting a candy buisness. So we invested 150$ (and spent the rest on judo gi's) and we are currently making about 225 percent of what we've spent. |

Cat Allergens May Also Have 9 LivesBy Kathleen Doheny TUESDAY, Nov. 29 (HealthDay News) -- A cat and its dander can trouble people with asthma long after the animal has left the room, a new study shows.
Cat allergens, in fact, can hamper the lung function of those who have asthma and are allergi c to cats for up to 22 hours after exposure, said Jared W. Allen, a postdoctoral researcher at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles.
That's because "cat allergens can be smaller particles than normal allergens, such as pollen or flowers, and reach deeper into the airway of the lungs," Allen explained.
He presented his findings Tuesday at the Radiological Society of North America annual meeting, in Chicago.
Asthma, a chronic lung disease, affects more than 17 million Americans, according to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. It is marked by an inflammation of the airways that makes it difficult for air to move in and out of the lungs. Asthmatics often experience cough, shortness or breath and difficulty breathing during an attack.
Allen said he started the study after noticing that asthmatics often complain of symptoms even days after exposure to triggers such as cats or cat hair that spur an asthma attack. Conventional lung-function tests may come up normal, he said, so his team decided to do more sophisticated testing that can measure the amount of air trapped deep in the lung.
"The amount of air trapped in the lung correlates with airway reactivity -- how sensitive your airways are," he said. "The more air is trapped, the more symptoms you will have."
His team performed a test called high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT), using it to examine the functioning of the small airways deep in the lungs to detect the extent of impairment caused by exposure to the allergen.
Allen's team first induced an asthma attack in 10 persons with asthma and known allergies to cats, then took an HRCT. The next day, they exposed these individuals to cats, then took another scan six hours later. They took yet another scan 22 hours after that cat exposure, during another induced asthma attack.
Even after the outward symptoms such as difficulty breathing abated, all 10 persons continued to experience a decrease in lung function, the testing showed.
"Our conclusions are [that] there is a significant response in the small airways of the lung that can persist up to 22 hours," Allen said. "And not only may there be increased air trapping, but the patient's airways could be hypersensitive to additional challenges."
So, if exposure to cat allergens has left an allergic person with symptoms, and then he or she is exposed again, they may be even more sensitive the second time around, Allen said. If that second exposure occurs within 22 hours, he said, that could make the second attack worse than the first.
The findings may help explain why some persons with allergies and asthma seem to still have symptoms when traditional tests come out normal, said Dr. David Mendelson, an associate professor of radiology at Mount Sinai Medical Center, in New York City.
"To me, the provocative thing is he used these newer techniques, and he has a result that says [that] you can see a positive result on this [for airway problems] when you have no other objective evidence of a patient's complaint," Mendelson said. |

Fantastic Four was a decent movie. It was about The Thing obtaining his superpowers but then not being able to return to Ben. His three friends try to help him through this difficult time. He has a hard time coping with his superpowers because he is not normal and it is actually a disease. He has to say indoors and cannot go out (even if he could, he would not want to do so because he feels like a freak).
The movie was about learning to be yourself. I think the rating of the movie is fitting. It is PG-13.
It had two bad scenes in it. Jessica (Invisible Girl) had to turn invisible and then take her clothes off (because her clothes were still visible, of course). Then she turns visible and is only in her underwear. The Human Torch did not know he had his powers yet, and he lost his clothes because he became fire and the fire, of course, melted them. |

This is what I have learned about ice without doing the deep study of ice: If you put a popsicle in ice water, then the popsicle will have a layer of ice on it. If you freeze a soda then put it in ice then the soda will cling to the ice and have the consistency of a smoothie.

Hamlet goes from being in a state of depression then eventually falls into madness. This leads him to start his revenge against his uncle. Hamlet starts the story in a mood of depression over the death of his father along with being angry over the remarriage of his mother to his uncle. When Hamlet returns to Denmark, he is experiencing many cases of grief and sorrow which are for him personal. He might have eventually overcome his grief and sorrow if had not been for the additional traumatic shock of seeing his fathers ghost and finding out that his father was murdered by his uncle. At this point, Hamlet is already gravely in a state of depression. His mental state becomes one disjointed thought and rashness which leads to his further state of sorrow and despair.

Almost every Friday we have challah with our Erev Shabbat dinner. One thing I have finally mastered is making doughnuts from the dough. I tried making doughnuts a year or two ago, but it was a flop. They were doughy.
When I made doughnuts this time, I still found it to be difficult to make sure that they did not burn but were not underdone. I had the stove burner on medium high.
I did not want to make a glaze at the time,. My solution was to form balls of dough and stuff chocolate chips in the center then fried them.

One day I saw a preview for Lord of the Rings, and I saw Legolas shooting his bow and arrows. Approximately five minutes later, I went outside to play, and I noticed a bent stick that was in the shape of a smile. Afterwards, I saw a piece of string. I thought, How about I make a homemade bow out of a stick and some pantyhose?
So I retrieved the bent stick. I also took some pantyhose and cut them to the right size. Then I tied the pantyhose to the bent stick. I picked up a pretty straight stick and tried shooting it; it worked... but not so well. Then I looked for a lighter stick that was bent like a smile to make another bow. When I shot it, it did not shoot as well. It was almost identical to the bent stick that I had previously used except for the weight.So I looked for a more heavy stick. I made sure it was almost the same shape as the bent sticks I had previously used. This stick worked better than any of the previous bows.
If you are wanting to make a bow like I did. There are other materials you can use, my sister, QuickWitted, likes to use broken hangers for her arrows then there are other stretchy materials, you can use like an old shirt that is stretchy you want to recycle or old elastic from clothing that you want to recycle. You can even use the rubber bands that secure broccoli and asparagus together. We learned more about bows and arrows. We learned that the bow you are using should be from your waistline to your shoulder, so you should make your bow from a live tree. If in real life you were hunting and you needed to make your bow really fast, you would want to cut your branch from a tree that is approx. five feet tall. |
