Little Women Report and Review

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott starts out as a story of four poor sisters who are trying to happily go through Christmas.  Their dad is in the Army, and they have a housekeeper to keep them company along with their marmie (mother).  Soon they become friends with Lawrence (they call him Laurie) and his rich grandfather.

Their dad gets injured, and their mom has to leave to help nurse him back to health; during this time, Meg, Joe, Beth, and Amy go through many troubles.  Beth eventually becomes ill with Scarlet Fever.  They try to help their poor neighbors.  The sisters keep not wanting to help, so Beth helps them by bringing them food and hygiene goods even though they do not have a lot of food.  Amy helps take care of her Aunt Josephine.

Laurie and Jo get very close.  Laurie loves Jo, and she knows that she cannot be with him because they are too similar in nature.  Jo has to go away from Laurie so that he will stop obsessing over her.  Jo meets Mr. Behr.  She falls in love with him, and they get married.  When Jo leaves, Amy goes to art school.  She bumps into Laurie, and they fall in love.  When they return home, they are engaged.  John is Laurie's tutor, and he meets Meg at a party when she loses her glove.  John finds it and keeps it from her; then he uses Laurie to get it back to her.  The couple hit it off when they meet, and they slowly fall in love and get married.

I think that this story is a very decent tale.  It is not out of proportion; it sounds like everyday life.  It is a good book for someone looking for a story with many sides.  I like this book because it has so many facets, and it is wholesome.
