Homeschooling
I was reading an article tonight about online charter schools, and how they take away money from the traditional public schools. And then I started reading comments left by other readers. Why do people assume that because my children are homeschooled that they are not being fed socially? Why do people assume that I need a college degree to teach my children? Why is it that people assume that because my children are homeschooled that they are going to be a burden to society when they grow up?
SOCIALLY---Though Gracie does become shy when other adults approach her, she is far from that when it comes to kids her own age and older or younger than her. She is willing to play with anyone (which can be bad), but she is never willing to leave anyone behind! She is never willing to make fun of others either, and does not care if other kids are different than she is. Just today, as we were taking our nightly walk, and a little girl that Gracie had met since we moved here, stood on the street with another girl and called Gracie a name. At church, other girls will tell Gracie that they won't be her friend if she is friends with other girls. Gracie cries to me and and asks why can't everyone just be friends. If that is what socialization is, then that is not what I want.
COLLEGE DEGREE-Why is it assumed I am dumb, and know nothing because I don't have a piece of paper that says otherwise. My goodness, a lot of teachers with those degrees shouldn't even have those degrees. I don't need to prove my intelligence to anyone. And I most assuredly don't need a piece of paper to prove it.
BURDEN TO SOCIETY--I just bet if you take a look at those who are a "burden on society", I'll bet you not many of them were homeschooled. In fact most were probably taught their wonderful social skills, by outstanding teachers with the most sought after degrees.
The topping to all of this, is that some people think that because my daughters are being socially deprived by an uneducated mother, that my daughters should be taken away from me so that they can become a burden on society.
I'm just saying.... |
