"Anne! There's a mouse in the bathtub!" Emily cried, coming into the computer room where I was.
"Oh?"
"Yeah! He went down the drain, so I turned the bathwater on."
"Good." I imagined the little mouse drowning in the sewer...not a pretty sight, but a least the mouse was gone, right?
About thirty minutes later, Em came back. "The mouse climbed UP the drain and is in the bathtub looking all rag-tag!"
We giggled and ran to the bathroom.
Sure enough, there was the mouse, looking like a scruffy little
vagabond. We watched it for a while, debating what to do with it. I did
NOT want to pick it up by the tail, and Em didn't seem to inclined to
do much to/with it, also.
"Are you going to kill it?" I asked her. (A big sissy I am.)
"How?"
"With a shoe! Boot!"
"NO!"
"Why not? I did it once." (That was the first mouse I'd ever killed.)
"'Cuz!"
We watched it, commenting on how it was so cute, etc.
Then I got a bright idea--how about drown it? So I plugged the bathtub
and began filling it with lukewarm water (scalding water just seemed to
mean, even to a mouse).
"Do mice swim?" I asked Em.
"Yeah."
Oh great, I thought, but left the water running, curious to see what would happen.
Nothing, until the water was deep enough so he couldn't stand. He started floating, and swimming around.
Oh great, I thought again.
"Hey, where's a cup?" (We have what we call a bathtub cup, used only
for the bathtub. It's kind of a pukey green.) I found it, and cupped it
over the mouse. He just floated to the surface in the cup. I knew he
did, because he kept pulling his tail in.
Then I tried pinning him under the water with the cup's rim. (I'm so cruel.) Didn't work.
I pulled the plug and the bathtub started draining. Then I got a bright
idea: scoop it up with the cup and put him in the toilet! So I did.
And either he's dead, or he's swimming around in the sewer.
Yuck.
What a death, even for a mouse.

Oh, and today I got a CD I ordered from Amazon!! Chris Rice's (the CCM
artist--I always say that because I know another Chris Rice) "Smell the
Color 9". I got it free. Can't beat that
price! See...I do these survey thingies for Lightspeed, and after I get
so many points I can redeem them. This time I got a $10 Amazon gift
certificate, and promptly ordered a CD and a book (the CD, with
shipping, was almost 4 dollars, and the book was almost 6). Yahoo!!
