Teach, Live, Love's Husband

Dec. 8, 2007 - Things Some Homeschoolers Would Like to Say

I think that any of us who homeschool or have homeschooled have heard most of the questions, comments, assumptions, criticisms, etc. that come from people who don't understand (or don't approve of) homeschooling.

Well, today I stumbled across a post that answers many of those comments with what a lot of homeschooling parents would probably like to say.  Now, I'll offer the very obvious disclaimer that I am not endorsing everything on this page (and I have not even looked at the rest of the site), but I found quite a few of these made me chuckle.

To tease you:
7 We don't look horrified and start quizzing your kids when we hear they're in public school. Please stop drilling our children like potential oil fields to see if we're doing what you consider an adequate job of homeschooling.

13 Stop assuming that because the word "home" is right there in "homeschool," we never leave the house. We're the ones who go to the amusement parks, museums, and zoos in the middle of the week and in the off-season and laugh at you because you have to go on weekends and holidays when it's crowded and icky.

16 Don't ask my kid if she wouldn't rather go to school unless you don't mind if I ask your kid if he wouldn't rather stay home and get some sleep now and then.

18 If you can remember anything from chemistry or calculus class, you're allowed to ask how we'll teach these subjects to our kids. If you can't, thank you for the reassurance that we couldn't possibly do a worse job than your teachers did, and might even do a better one.
You'll have to go read the rest for yourself.  See how many you can identify with! ;)

Thank you for your comment. I am going over it and thinking on what you said.
I don't think I came off right on my post.
Thanks.

Thank you for sighting this post. I am always tired of people questioning our methods because we homeschool. I would think they should first question thier schoolboard on what methods they are teaching thier own children and be more concerned of what thier child is doing academically in the public school system.

I thought that your ad was really funny. My children are going to public school but I want to home school as well so I am stuck in the middle I love you home schoolers and I like the socialization of the public schools. I do appreciate the home schoolers and have admiration for you. I need to know where I can find free online work sheets and material so that I may help my children alone in school thanks karen
