Friday Show and Tell...My New Stepback Cabinets/Bookcases

It's Friday! Time for show and tell over at Kelli's blog, There's No Place Like Home! Today, I'd like to show you photos of my new stepback cabinets/bookcases that I FINALLY finished painting! I showed some pictures of the kind of bookcases I wanted several weeks ago. My brother-in-law, Chip, really did a great job of taking my ideas and building these bookcases. I couldn't have possibly found anything I like any better in a store. Thanks, Chip! I love them!

I haven't finished filling/decorating them yet, but I'm working on it. My husband ever so gently reminded me that these are for books...remember??!! Oh yeah! LOL There'll be lots of books on these shelves...right beside, over, and under knick-knacks, pictures, flowers, etc.  LOL And believe me, you can fit A LOT of stuff inside those bottom cabinets!

Each cabinet/bookcase is actually built in two separate parts. The bookcases sit atop the bottom cabinets, making it easier to move them around if we need to. And I just love the beadboard backing and doors. I'm a happy girl!

Below is a photo of my mantel that was taken back in January, and you can see how different everything looks without the cabinets/bookcases beside it. Ever since we remodeled seven years ago, I've always thought that the walls on either side of the mantel looked so, so...well, so very blank! I think we now have a definite improvement! LOL Yay! But you should have seen the wall before we put up the faux mantel as a focal point for the room. The word BLANK doesn't even begin to describe how that wall looked with just a black heater sitting there! But my sweet husband listened to my 'big idea' and found an antique mantel, stripped it, and refinished it. He surprised me with it the first Christmas we lived here! Forget expensive jewelry and clothing...just give me an old mantel or a picket fence...or beadboard bookcases! LOL

Thanks so much for stopping by and letting me share about my new furniture! And do head on over to Kelli's to check out more wonderful posts for Friday Show and Tell!

Your home is so lovely. The bookshelves are beautiful. They are definitely my taste in furnishings.

Now, I am trying to figure out how we have not run into one another until now. I am also a happily married pastor's wife and a former school teacher. How 'bout that?

I'll have to visit again.
