No Assumptions!

Benjamin shocked me the other day in the most joyful way!  Out of the blue he decided he was going to draw a picture (which if you knew Ben, you would know how amazing that is).  Upon observing his art work I stood staring at an image that looked very much like a face.  As not to encourage a desired reply, I asked him to explain the picture to me, at which point I was informed that the image was Ernie.  I said what do you mean when you say it's Ernie, and he replied that it was Ernie's face.  I asked him to show me the parts of his face, and it was exactly as I had interpreted!  A perfectly preportioned head with eyes, nose and open mouth.  I could have cried, as a matter of fact I almost did!  Normally I had to encourage the use of crayons and paper with a bunch of rushed scribbling as a result.  To see my son choose to draw and then to draw with such accuracy astonished me.  I felt proud, excited, and a bit sheepish for assuming that he couldn't do it in the first place.  The Lord works in wonderful, marvelous, mysterious ways! Ben has also informed me that he knows his full name, his address, his town, and the names of my husband and myself!  I am continually encouraged by his ability to learn and so thrilled that he actually enjoys the process.  Now ask me again.....why do I want to homeschool?  Why WOULDN'T I!  Send him to a public institution and miss all this...NO WAY :)

Until Next Time,
Mum

I laughed when I read this because I had nearly forgotten how much my oldest son HATED crayons and drawing when he was young. Now at 12 he goes through so much paper and draws the most amazing things. I cannot get over the ability he has! You are so right. We are so forunate to homeschool them and to get to see and live through all the wonderful ages and stages. What a privledge!

Oh wow hun that is great, now once they start drawing there will be no stopping them......you will soon have enough drawings to re-papaer the downstairs loo....hehehe...use to joke about that with my kids, i put one of their drawings on the loo wall and when you needed 5 mins to yourself, you tell them you are going to admire their drawings, amazing how much time they gave you to yourself....hehehe
