Welcome to Grade One!

Posted in Daily Updates
Here we are officially back to school and beginning the first grade year.  Benjamin is so excited and I can't believe how quickly he's picking up key concepts.  As his birthday falls two days before the required cut off, we are responsible for our own curriculum this year and I think we are doing very well.  Next year we will have some board funding and that will help open up more options for us.  We are also considering the move to a larger church, so that the boys can attend their Sunday school classes on a more regular basis.  Right now the drive to our home church is double the distance and can create time problems that prohibit us from attending more regularly.  With a church ten minutes away I think we can keep some consistency and allow for the boys to keep up with their Sunday school peers.

Jacob is very eager to 'do school' just like his big brother, so we have begun a preschool curriculum for him as well.  I have a feeling that he will be slightly more successful next year when he turns four, but for now he's having fun learning and that's what counts.    Hopefully by the time he begins his core work, it will be second nature for him to set to the task and  it will be readily accepted as part of his daily routine.

I am loving homeschooling, and I hope they continue to love it as well for years to come.  I am already seeing very positive academic and social differences between my boys and their public school peers.  I didn't think it would be that recognizable at this age,  but regardless of whether it is just the nature of my boys or their alternative schooling I am definitely seeing differences that I am very pleased with.  I wonder if this continues as they get older?

I know I am thrilled that the Lord has given us this opportunity and I hope to do the very best job I can to educate our boys every day.  It's such a blessing to see the light come on in my children's eyes and celebrate their successes as they achieve their goals.  I know there will also be rough times ahead, but it's just so worth it.

Until tomorrow,
Mum

I have been homeschooling for ten years now. I am very plesed with the way they are all turning out. I have two teenagers now.[They are supposed to be aliens, according to the world's standards at this age!]
