Hello there, it's been a while!
We have experienced a great period of adjustment over the last year, as we journey through endings and new beginnings. Homeschool has been a God send this year! Unfortunately on Mother's day weekend of this year my beloved Mum passed away after a long battle with Cancer, and my little guys had to adapt to a life without their beloved Nana.
The beautiful thing about homeschooling during this time is that there were no deadlines to face, no mandatory classes and no bundling up emotions to deal with during a better time. My boys were free to grieve at their own pace, in their own way, without worry about other responsibilties or obligations. We were able to handle my precious Mum's affairs as things arose without the need for scheduling time. It really was a true blessing, and I am so grateful.
This year marks B's first year with a school board affiliation (being recognized officially as a homeschooler by the province). It's so exciting! We have an amazing facilitator, and we have our first meeting with her in November to ask questions and get a bit of guidance where we deem necessary. After speaking by phone she's feeling that Ben may be advanced in some areas (go figure LOL) and she has given me some amazing tips for improving his interest in Math and Writing (the two things he finds absolutely painful ;) ). I really am interested in seeing what she has to say after looking at his portfolio.
My little J is entering the preschool phase and already he can count, read numbers, read letters, name colors, and recognize some words. I am very pleased that he appears to be progressing as B did at his age because I find that if they can grasp language and numbers you have a great base for learning everything else! So it's all very exciting.
I have also set up our office as a homeschool room. Everything is organized and we have a beautiful work table making projects and lessons so much easier! It's all coming together and I am so very pleased!
Anyway, this is a short update on our new adventure and I will update again very soon! I hope to read up on how everyone else is getting along, and I pray you all have a wonderful homeschooling experience this year.
God Bless,
Mum
