My first thought was," Whoa, this is like slow motion!" Second thought," Should I bail out or die in the landing?" My second thought was about 0.1 seconds before I hit the ground and the quad hit me and everything kinda went black.
That morning Dad and I joined Mike, and some guys named Steve, TJ, Justin, Paul and Matt on a wheeler ride in Richland. First we just rode around and then we went to fuel up. But to get there we had to go up this hill that was about 12 foot high and it was all rutted and and had these roots growing across it. It was pretty steep but I had went up it before, so I put my wheeler in first gear put my wheels in the two ruts and started going up. Then I was almost to the top and a root growing slightly uphill forced my right tire up the side of the rut and my wheeler went straight up in the air and then fell backwards off the trail into the stickers and other sharp plant thingys. If fell backwards through all that stuff to the bottom of the hill, but it was still in really thick brush. The first thing that came in my head when the fog cleared was," Ow..." And then I tryed to move the." Little tree with spikes all over it" away from my face. That didn't work. So then I tryed to get my helmet off and it took me three tried to do that, I guess I was still a little stunned. I tried to get up but then I saw my wheeler was laying upsidedown across my lower body. The whole time no one saw me , even though there were 6 guys behind me. So after a minute they saw I was not with them so Mike rode back and luckly he heard me shout. After that they all helped me out and then we all flipped it back over (Mike has his camira snapping the whole time) and Dad hooked his winch up to it and dragged it back up the hill. When we got to the top Matt looked at me and said," Man, You look terrible." I looked down and saw he wasn't lying, my shirt was ripped, I had mud, dirt and blood all over me, and my arms were ripped up bad and I had a big sratch running along my chest. I had a million stickers in my arms and hands. I looked at him grinned and sayed, "It was fun though" My wheeler just had a few scraches on it, Because its front landed on a bush so it padded it some. After that we filled up and rode about four more hours. But this all part of the fun isnt it?!?! |
