Jun. 22, 2007 - Ozzy Osbourne: Black Rain

Track Listing: Not Going Away I Don't Wanna Stop (album version) Black Rain Lay Your World On Me The Almighty Dollar 11 Silver Civilize The Universe Here For You Countdown's Begun Trap Door When I saw that Ozzy had another album coming out, I thought that it must be a greatest hits collection, because from interviews of him I've heard, he sounds incapable of singing... When I heard the single, "I Don't Wanna Stop," on the radio, he actually sounded better than in his previous albums. His lisp is much less pronounced, and he rarely stutters... Most critics didn't like this album, though, they said it sounded to much like Black Label Society (ozzy's guitarist's other band,) and the lyrics were to "poppy." It's true, it does sound kinda like Black Label Society, and the lyrics are more mainstream than his other albums, but not enough to really detract from it. Black Rain is more "metal" than his other albums, which I think works very well, especially after his very soft 2003 album, "Under Cover." The title refers to the tar-like rain that supposedly fell on Hiroshima after the bomb was dropped during WWII... Black Rain is my favorite 2007 album, so far....

May. 8, 2007 - Rise Against: The Sufferer And The Witness

Track Listing:

Chamber The Cartridge
Ready To Fall Bricks
Under The Knife
Prayer of The Refugee
Drones
The Approaching Curve
Behind Closed Doors
Roadside
The Good Left Undone
Survive

Well, sorry I havn't blogged for a while, but I've been way to lazy to do anything that requires that much effort... btw, did I spell "havn't" right? Ummmm, anyway... I was  very suprised at how good this album was. I thought it would just be another post-punk band trying to copy the Ramones, but they're really good. They draw very heavily on older hardcore punk bands, but they have a unique sound... It combines excellent riffs by bands like Black Sabbath with the speed of groups like The Misfits,  but with a much lighter feel. From songs like "Prayer of The Refugee," it sound's like they're very anti-war, and cheap labor in China.

Apr. 20, 2007 - The Killer's: Sam's Town

Track Listing:

Sam's Town
Enterlude
When You Were Young
Bling (Confession of a King)
For Reasons Unknown
Read My Mind
Uncle Johnny
Bones
My List
This River is Wild
Why Do I Keep Counting
Exitlude

I found out about The Killer's when a friend told me that they sound very similar to The Beatles, so I went and bought Sam's Town, and they sounded very different The Beatles... But, they became one of my favorite "new" bands. Like The Beatles, they integrate marching bands and strings in many of their songs... They have a very unique sound, which Wikipedia calls "synth-pop."
Many of their songs rely heavily on synthesisrs Their lyrics are (sometimes) deep and thoughtful, and all their songs have a touch of dark humor. Brandon Flower's voice is excellent, and it does sound sorta like Paul McCartney.

Apr. 12, 2007 - Van Halen: Van Halen

Track Listing:

Running With The Devil
Eruption
You Really Got Me
Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love
I'm The One
Jamie's Cryin'
Atomic Punk
Feel Your Love Tonight
Little Dreamer
Ice Cream Man
On Fire

I was just watching "20 Greatest Metal Bands" on VH1, and I was very surprised that Van Halen wasn't on it. How did messed up "hair metal" bands like Poison (#16), get on he list of greatest metal bands ever? I think Van Halen's one of the best hard rock/metal groups ever, just because of Eddie Van Halen's insane guitar skills... I think Van Halen is a greatest hits album, but I'm not sure. "Eruption" is the greatest guitar solo EVER, much better than anything AC/DC (#2), or Metallica (#1) could ever do. "You Really Got Me" (originally by The Kinks) is the only cover I've ever heard that's actually better than the original. All the other songs are great, and they all contain amazing solos by the best guitarist ever.

Apr. 9, 2007 - A.F.I.: Decemberunderground

Track Listing:
  1. "Prelude 12/21" – 1:34
  2. "Kill Caustic" – 2:39
  3. "Miss Murder" – 3:26
  4. "Summer Shudder" – 3:06
  5. "The Interview" – 4:16
  6. "Love Like Winter" – 2:45
  7. "Affliction" – 5:28
  8. "The Missing Frame" – 4:40
  9. "Kiss and Control" – 4:18
  10. "The Killing Lights" – 4:04
  11. "37mm" – 3:55
  12. "Endlessly, She Said" – 4:28
I think this is the 5th concept album I've reviewed... It's probably also the fifth concept album I've reviewed that's all depressing... Decemberunderground is a very well put together emocore album about "...A time and place where the cold can huddle together in cold and isolation..." according to lead vocalist Davy Havok. It draws from not only hardcore punk and classic emo, but some songs, especially "Love Like Winter," are kinda influenced by weird '80s techno...I did't like it as much as "Sing The Sorrow," mostly because of there steady movement towards synthpop... btw, sorry if the track listing's messed up; I got it from wikipedia and it kept screwing up...

Apr. 3, 2007 - Dream Theatre: Scenes From A Memory

Track Listing:

Regression
Overture 1928
Strange Deja Vu
Through My Words
Fatal Tragedy
Beyond This Life
Through Her Eyes
Home
The Dance of Eternity
One Last Time
The Spirit Carries On
Finally Free

So, this's yet another concept album about death... Yeah, I really like concept albums... This one's different from The Black Parade or The Wall, though. It's the story of of a man who discovers the murder of a close friend, and, while trying to recover from the shock, finds out things about himself that he never knew before. I know it sounds kinda sappy, but it's a great album. I don't really know how to describe the genre, 'cause it varies a lot through out the album. "Through Her Eyes" is almost entirely acoustic,  and the singer sounds like David Bowie; but "Overture 1928" is classic metal. It's great album for fans of David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Switchfoot, and Black Sabbath...

Mar. 29, 2007 - Metallica: Kill 'em All

Track Listing:

Hit The Lights
The Four Horsemen
Motorbreath
Jump in the Fire
(Anesthesia)--Pulling Teeth
Whiplash
Phantom Lord
No Remorse
Seek & Destroy
Metal Militia

wow... This is an amazing album... The album created thrash metal. It's not real metal, though. According to my guitar teacher, it's "pre-metal-thrash-punk." ummm... I think it's just straight thrash! I think this was Metallica's first album. They're amazing instrumentally, and James Hetfield is one of the best male vocalists of all time. "Anesthesia" is an amazing 4 minute bass solo by Cliff Burton...

Mar. 19, 2007 - R.E.M.: #9 Dream

*My computer's messed up and I can't find the album art for this*

Track listing:

#9 Dream (originaly by John Lennon)

If you're wondering why i only listed 1 song, it's  'cause this's a single... Anyway... I was really suprised by how good this was. I thought that Micheal Stipe trying to imitated John's voice would suck, but he didn't try to imitate it, and it sounded really good. I actually like this better than the original, and John Lennon's one of my favorite artists... Of course, John did this song with Elton John, who I hate, but... If you like R.E.M. or John Lennon, you should download this song...

Mar. 12, 2007 - My Chemical Romance: The Black Parade

Track Listing:

   1. “The End.” – 1:52
   2. “Dead!” – 3:15
   3. “This Is How I Disappear” – 3:59
   4. “The Sharpest Lives” – 3:20
   5. “Welcome to the Black Parade” – 5:11
   6. “I Don't Love You” – 3:58
   7. “House of Wolves” – 3:04
   8. “Cancer” – 2:22
   9. “Mama” – 4:39
  10. “Sleep” – 4:43
  11. “Teenagers” – 2:41
  12. “Disenchanted” – 4:55
  13. “Famous Last Words” – 4:59
  14. “Blood” (hidden track) – 2:53

Welcome to the Black Parade is the absolute best album in the last 20 years, I don't care what anybody says about "Thriller" or "War." It's an extremely well-done concept album about a man dying of cancer. The song writing is amazing, especially in "Teenagers" and "The Black Parade." It's very depressing and suicidal, but WHO CARES?! If you don't own it, you should go to the iTunes store NOW and download it.

Why are greatest hits collections always better than the original albums? Who cares, International Superhits is, like, my favorite (almost new) album ever!!!!! Why do all the members of old punk bands, like Johnny Rotten, hate Green Day?  Billy Joe is NOT a poser!!!!!! Post comments on whether you think Green Day is real punk, or "alt-punk"..

Get Up
You Are The Everything
Stand
World Leader Pretend
The Wrong Child

This is one of my FAVORITE albums ever!!!! Umm... Nevermind, it's not that good... It's pretty good though, it's my favorite R.E.M. album... It's the only one that's not all weird and dark... It's got some really good songs, like Stand... And it's got their first anti-war song, World Leader Pretend... ummm... Ok, that's it...

Mar. 5, 2007 - Linkin Park: Hybrid Theory

Track Listing:

Papercut
One Step Closer
With You
Points of Authority
Crawling
Runaway
By Myself
In The End
Place For My Head
Forgotten
Cure For The Itch
Pushing Me Away

This is hard-rock/rap group Linkin Parks' debut album, and I think it's their best. Most of the songs are very depressing. "Crawling in my skin, these wounds they will not heal, fear is is how I fall, confusing what is real" lol... Everybody thought that Linkin Park would be the biggest band of this decade, but they were wrong... Post comments on who you think the best band this decade is... Again, I think it's My Chemical Romance.

"I Want To Hold Your Hand"
"Drive My Car/The Word/What You're Doing"

"Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!/I Want You (She's So Heavy)/Helter Skelter"
"Help!"
"Blackbird/Yesterday"
"Strawberry Fields Forever"
"Within You Without You/Tomorrow Never Knows"
"Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds"
"Octopus's Garden"
"Lady Madonna"
"Here Comes the Sun"
"The Inner Light (Transition)"
"Come Together/Dear Prudence"
"Cry Baby Cry (Transition)"
"Revolution"
"Back in the U.S.S.R."
"While My Guitar Gently Weeps"
"A Day in the Life"
"Hey Jude"
"Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)"
"All You Need Is Love"

I finally found some site that has all the track listings, so I didn't have to type out the names of all 20 something songs... This album was created for the Cirque du Soleil (did i spell that right?) show, LOVE. George Martin, the original Beatles producer, and his son Giles, took classic Beatles songs like "Drive My Car" and "What You're Doing" and mixed them together. Some of the changes are very small, like adding some more backing voices, and some are very large, like completly different lead guitars... It's a very well done album, but not the best of '06, like many thought it would be... Comment and tell what you think the best album of '06 was... I think it was definitly "Welcome to the Black Parade" by My Chemical Romance...

I wish there was some website that offered all the track listings in a normal format... It took me forever to write all that... Anyway... This is a CREEPY album!!!! It's a concept album about a dude who goes insane... All his bad experiences are "all just bricks in the wall," which he builds up around his mind, until he finally goes insane... Why are concept albums always about insane people? This is one of the best albums ever...
