May. 5, 2008 - Homeschool Hi-Lights

The past few weeks have been light ones at our house.  The girls are finishing up most of their work for this school year.  Lulu is finished with phonics and grammar.  Monkey is finished with math and grammar.  Both are done with science and history.  I am trying to get our summer planned as well as next year.  I have never schooled through the summer before, but am planning to do some this year.  I have started to implement some things from Ambleside Online.  Last week we began reading some stories from James Herriott.  The girls have really enjoyed these stories.  I'm looking forward to our changes for next year.  It has been nice sitting on the couch reading!

Isn't it exciting when the school work starts getting completed near the end of the year? We aren't going to officially homeschool during the summer. But, I do have some things that I want to continue during the summer like - reading historical fiction aloud, watching science TV shows, listening to Adventures in Odyssey, teaching the 6 year old to read, and listening to the 11 year old read aloud. I guess that I won't be getting as much of a break as I thought that I would. At least I won't have the daily pressure that I "have to do it".

Looking to implement more things from AO also. We had our read a loud time yesterday and Gasinator let out a huge explosion in the midst of my reading. So much for quiet read a loud times. LOL
