Rain, Rain

Well the heat is still here but at least it has rained alittle and looks like more is coming. We sure need the rain.

Took the 2 youngest boys to a small carnival this weekend and saw nice fireworks last night.

How many of you do school year around? I am going to be doing this with these last 3 I have at home. Especially since we have had alot of days off since we moved in Dec. But, I look at it as Home Ec,Hands On, Handy Man Schooling Classes. These are need to know skills for home owners.

Art- choosing colors of Paint and Painting rooms.

Math- measuring, building kits, arranging furniture to fit in rooms.

Reading-instructions to building kits and following them.

Grammer-new words, following instruction kits in order of sequence

Geo-community, mapping it, finding shops, libraries, parks, ect.

Science-local birds, insects, animals,stars, ect.

Wow! Now that I look at all of that, I believe we have learned alot in 7 months. And have had a lot of fun doing it!

We school year round in this way:

When we finish our school year (May 31st, for example), the next day begins the next school year. Then when we have educational activities during the summer, they 'count' toward school.

For example, the kids had swimming lessons this summer. A valuable life skill, so I counted a bunch of the lessons -- along w/ anything else educational we did (like piano lessons) -- as a school day.

Thank you Scribbler for the information. You are right that we can say life is a learning experience. Anything we learn to do, even when it is playing chess or swimming, is a lesson and oh, so much fun.
